Is SFxT the new 3rd strike of the FG community?

I never said everything has been completely discovered. I said that I doubt that anything that would blow the game up as you die hards so desperately want to have happen will do anything to revive the game.

Er…yeah, you did.

That may not have been your point but you did say it…

Anyways, I do believe that the game will be “revived.” Not in the essence that Third Strike was though. I’m sure that there will be many people who will give the game another chance with this new patch, we’ll continue to get the community to grow and we will continue to support the game. However, when it comes to the majority of the FGC, I believe the damage has already been done; bad marketing, the whole pay-to-win DLC gem fiasco, the on-disc characters, infinites, bugs, yadayadayada…for many, no matter what Capcom does they’ll never give it a second thought. It’s that issue that I believe will unfortunately prevent a full-on “revival.”

Damn you must be high. There is nothing Capcom has done to Tekken’s models that would make anyone of reasonable intelligence make them think they look better than Tekken’s latest.

To each his own, I liked the SFxT Tekken models.

I don’t get how that’s a knock on 3D games. I would hope that Tekken Tag looks like Namco is up to date on what looks good.

Eh, I like Capcom’s take on the Tekken characters. At times I prefer it. I wouldn’t want or expect Tekken’s characters to look any different in their own game, but for an alternate take, it’s pretty well done.

Highlighted the bit in bold because I think this is an important point you made here.

I think as soon as this patch drops, there has got to be an increase in content for this game A.S.A.P even if it is just showing people buffs and nerfs to characters or a ‘how to punish ‘X’ or ‘Y’ move video’. I feel the latter is pretty lacking especially when tackling the Tekken Casts’ strings.

Personally I intend to put up change-log videos for both of my characters: Akuma and Lili when this patch drops to show off the changes as well as some example combos with the new changes in place.

Although I will admit that I am really sorry for not contributing as much as I would like to for this community as I have been held up with studies lately. Hence, finding the time to capture game-play footage is pretty tough in my schedule. However I do hope to organize myself better for my New Year’s Resolution so that I can find the time to record footage.

And also, and I mainly think that this is a personal gripe of mine, I think that those at Capcom who thought that it was a good idea to charge people for extra gem packs which are considered ‘better’ than the current ones on offer should be fired. The problem with Capcom right now is it’s management; the people who sit there and decide to constantly charge consumers for things in the game that consumers would be able to do by themselves and/or little ‘cheats’ to help them out.

In SFxT’s case it’s the gems: the very system the game was going to be balanced around and why Capcom would charge for pretty much system mechanics is beyond me.

Don’t get me wrong, though the development side of Capcom is not bad. I think if given more time, the game would feel a lot more…well finished in my opinion. Granted as the FGC, and thanks to the internet, we tend to discover things in the game on a much quicker basis. It almost gets to the point where sometimes, I feel that the players of the game know more than the actual developers/battle directors of it.

So I think a stronger sort of ‘battle director division’ I think would help the game as well as future Capcom Fighting Game titles or even just their other projects; people who understand the games engine, characters and how best to balance them as well as possibly some knowledge of programming so that they can understand what goes on behind the whole ‘massive array of colors and effects’ the game has.

These people could even go out into the F.G.C just to show people new stuff that they’ve never seen before and that has a chance of generating interest.

That said, I do see the other side of the argument as well.

I think, and this is a PURE assumption, that in general with Capcom fighters, they’ve wanted to leave to players to discovering the new ‘tech’ or tricks in the game which are used at a higher level which I think isn’t a bad approach to things but it needs constant monitoring of the games’ progress and the need of paying the developers to fix it as well as other external costs.

The developers are human beings as well you know. So they will want to take a break and being called in possibly every month or so to find that there is a glitch or so in their work and they have to fix it by ‘X’ date would be like beating a dead horse to them. It’s like getting a nice load off of your back after a long trek knowing in yourself that you’ve finished and then putting it back on because there’s another 10 odd miles or so to go.

That said a bunch of rambling and I’m back to your point to say that yeah I agree, those who were pretty much affected by very rocky launch of the game and decided to quit early will never give the game a second thought. It is how it is, and right now that bit in bold is what players of this game must focus on in order for it to revive itself or at least form its little niche in the F.G.C.

It was actually the Xbox1 port that really opened the game up, due to netplay. Before this, just a few hardcore Cap and 2d fans played it amongst themselves on Dreamcast, unless you were lucky enough to be around Paris, London, Texas, CTF or SHGL. Obviously in Japan, it’s had a strong, non-stop scene around it since it came out.
People might say now it was laggy then but that’s largely because many people still had low ISDN connections around that point. I had some great games on it, arguably better than how it works now on OE. There were huge threads for it on here, constantly being updated with GGs and player details, and even other more general gaming sites had their own long 3s Live1 session threads. By around 2007, it was all gone.

Not yet. All this hinges on v2013 actually being good.

funny how many players already discussing the game in retrospective while pc gamers still waiting to actually invest some time into the game. netcode’s broken there since release day.

The way to swing SFxT around is to give people what they want in the new Ver.2013 update and the people want “buffs” and changes. I just hope besides all they have listed so far, they do more with systematic changes too. Just a few refinements here and there will ripple across the gameplay very effectively.

Still praying for M.Bison psycho banish. Thanks Ono/Ayano.

edit: I just want to point out all the trolls that are all like “let the game die, RIPSFxT” or whatever, those people never really mattered in the first place. These are the irrelevant people that don’t play FGs or play really obscure games that nobody cares about.

Tons of people want to see the game succeed as it’s potentially very different from SSFIVAE2012. There’s still tons of people online grinding out in NA, EU and JP regions. You can see tons of people with pretty high ranks and battle points. I am constantly running into a lot of 0 BP players online for some reason.

The turn around for SFxT is very possible with a good patch.

What would these really obscure games be by chance?

I really didn’t think any less fucks could be given about Persona 4 until it was publicly stated that a well known gamer was going BACK to SFxT. Then that was the green light for everyone and their mother to take a dump on the game…or just ignore it.

It seems that very Capcom game goes through a hate phrase when it’s new just for it to be vindicated by history as the years go on. SFxT will be no different.

Why are gems still banned any way? That’s fucking dumb.

Because nobody knew what to do with the game when it launched and the tradition stuck.

I mean, how long did it take to get 1v1?

Bleh. This whole thing is taking way longer than it should.

CFJ was loved for awhile it wasn’t till people figured out how to play the Vampire characters it got shitted on(None of the cast could deal with the rush down.).

It’s got a better shot than most.

A game without an established base/history/legacy pretty much just gets ignored. There must always be one SF and one Marvel. No more, no less.

That’s a shame honestly. I haven’t gotten my hands on the game yet just due to too much to play as-is (and I’m already 90% focused on SFxT), but it’s rather annoying how people act that sheepish. “So-and-so said he’s done playing so I’m done playing”…

Eh, I’ll stop now before I start rambling/venting lol.

Apparently, people find it hard to write down/remember 3 digits. These gentlemen agreements gotta go. That, and the entire mindset that gems don’t affect gameplay. Ignorance…

And don’t start telling “it takes too long to select”. Watch the 25th anniv. LA qualifiers, hardly takes 20 secs. Only thing the gem selector needs is a more user friendly interface.
