Fuck no.
SvC is more legit than sfxt though it got play in South America which is 1 more region than SFxT got.
No matter how appreciated it may become, the art/graphics/animations are still beyond hideous
Yes, I am a hater
I mean if we wanna make more correlations to 3rd Strike…these are the videos that pretty much got the US to care about 3S.
This video got people to realize that there was more to the game than just parrying and doing shit with Ken. Tokido pretty much showed the US that the game had a SF version of Magneto if he hit you with meter.

Daigo Parry…the only casual base that still didn’t care got into it and this happened right before the PS2/Xbox 180 release of the game which was super convenient.
Just so people remember…this is still to this day the most viewed piece of competitive fighting game on the internet. Even if the gamer you know still hasn’t played a fighting game in their life…they’ve probably seen that video.

Pretty much things like these have to happen with SFxT. If people just see top players going back and forth with footsies and nothing really innovative they’re just not going to really care enough to go to it. They’ll just say “oh well I can just do that or do more interesting things in the game I’m already playing”
The game experienced a re-birth around 04-07 because of:
Daigo Video, a decent port to PS2, emulation, and the rise of Youtube.
All this is related to the discovery that 3S is the shit. Pretty much everything in Strekken has been discovered and the patch doesn’t look too significant. You could have a dozen hype matches and it still won’t fix this game.
Hmmm…
There’s a lot more room for discovery in this game than there was in SFIV IMO. It’s just people have to put in the time to do it. The earlier pre patched versions had random shit being found all over the place…so only time before other meaningful things are discovered that could end up being hype in a tournament.
To me significant would be new characters, new gameplay, etc. Shit that really changes how the game is played. Buffs and nerfs of characters and a timer fix isn’t going to do much of anything.
They already added in 12 new characters technically (well that were already shoehorned in not so secretly). The game already has a lot of features as it is.
If you look at 3rd Strike…before the hype people just complained about what it didn’t have. “My favorite character’s not in, how comes i can only choose one super? alpha 3 lets me use like TREE OF EM, the new guys look weird”. Outside of the parries, EX and super select system the game was pretty much to the point and most of the depth was around the correlation of those systems. SFxT has way more different systems and characters so there’s a lot that COULD happen.
Players always do more to change how the game is played. That’s pretty much what 3rd Strike, MVC2 and other older games lived off of. Players changing the game. When Capcom tried to change the game the players would just go back to the more “broken” unpatched version any way.
I can see parallels to New Generation, but I don’t think Dimps is competent enough to salvage SFxT the way SF3 was in its revisions. I didn’t look at the change list, but I’m assuming it’s more “Top tiers do less damage; bottom tiers do more damage,” without touching the clusterfuck of an engine.
The 25th Anniversary LA qualifier had some good stuff on display, but mostly it’s a shame that players haven’t seen what this game is capable of, since a lot of the tourney play(like Brazil’s qualifiers:oops: ) is pretty much week one tactics with top tiers.
25th Anniversary Grand Finals are Dec. 8th, need to see some good shit on display:tup:
C’mon man, they’re removing the gem effects on the characters, the life bars will stop shaking, the SF characters are less fatty than SF4…but the Tekken characters? They look sweet. I’d take SFxT’s Tekken character art over the actual Tekken models on most of them.
lol no. this game will forever stay as the blacksheep of modern capcom fighters. let’s be realistic guys, we’re in the YOLO era of fighters. with this community you only have one shot.
In my mind I tend to classify “dominant parry” games (ABK, BF, Yata etc.) as a different category than other SF-like games, which are always more similar to SF2 or SFA or CVS by nature.
I mean, even in the ones that with whiff animations and thus no mindless option selects, that parry still kills basic zoning to some extent so you still get games that are closer by nature to SF3, just more refined.
^ Good points made. The engine needs a complete overhaul for players to take it seriously again. I wouldn’t consider the game to be anything like 3S, more like CVS1 or Alpha 2 but worse.
Yeah, like the removal of gems.
That’d be just fine with me.
They are making changes to the system, and while they might seem subtle, it’s going to be different in 2013. Whether it’s enough for people who hated everything about, it’s too early to judge, but I don’t think anyone who plays the game with any regularity is looking at the change list and saying the game is going to have the same problems it has now. Everything I see in the typical “general hate” category is being adjusted, from the visual fireworks, boost combos, life recovery, throws. I thought this game was crazy as all fuck when it first came out, almost to the point where I didn’t want to be bothered with figuring out how everything worked, but once they started the updates, nerfed the Assist gems straight to hell, and tweaked some of the jabby crap and finally got the DLC characters out…I really started to enjoy it, and from what I gather from the 2013 update, I’ll enjoy it even more. There’s just too much in this game to summarily dismiss it like it’s Capcom Fighting Jam or something IMO.
-FIFTY-FIVE CHARACTERS (more than half of which are BRAND NEW, more than 3/4 of which are unplayed)
-FREE FLOWING TAG TEAM SYSTEM
-HUNDREDS OF GEMS (including speed, meter, and pandora gems which COMPLETELY CHANGE THE GAME’S RULES)
-LIBERAL JUGGLE SYSTEM
-PATCH WITH UNKNOWN CHANGES APPROACHING
I don’t care if you like or dislike SFxT. But, to say that this game has no unexplored territory is straight up irresponsible.
Then why are you commenting on it, lol.
Amazing.
1: And they were all available at day 1 if you had a modded system. Nothing new there.
2: Gems are banned in tournament play.
3 and 4: The patch will determine that.
We’re going on a year since release and next to nothing on new shit. And if there is new shit it’s nothing that excites casuals like the Daigo video.
Am I wrong?
(1 change list check later)
Yes? There’s a ton of 100->110 to inflate the list, but I like a few of the system changes. Will the game change because of it? I don’t think they’re dramatic enough, but whatever, I stand corrected. At least they’re trying.

He’s referring to the Tekken characters, not the DLC characters. The fact that none of the Tekken characters have been in any kind of Street Fighter engine, so basically half of the roster is brand new.
-
Just because gems are banned in most tournament play doesn’t mean that they don’t exist or add anything to the game. Perhaps if we got said tournaments to allow gems we’d actually get to see what proper gem set-ups can do.
As for new stuff, you clearly haven’t looked at these forums much, have you?
lol@ sfxt being completely discovered. Let me know when players stop mashing L and boost combos. That’s like saying the pinnacle of discovery in mvc3 was just magic series into super…
