Thanks for sharing. However, it looks like he only used Sakura during the finals, and she can be quite deadly in the right hands. Poison was probably used once or twice earlier on.
I think he did pretty well. He really drives home the fact that Poison is pretty amazing at corner pressure. He didn’t use fwd+mp a lot, and more so relied on LMT. I loved when he used KBG and canceled into FA with a dash under and ended with HP. It kinda seemed as though the Sakura player didn’t really know how to deal with her and they started getting too frantic at the end and allowed Poison to control the match, maybe it’s just me. Those air tastu’s destroy her though…
Honestly I don’t use flashy combos with her either. When it comes to damage scaling, it doesn’t work in her favor, so you might as well keep it short and simple and just focus on setting the opponent up on wake up when its done.
One thing I do take away from this, utilize the hell out of her fireballs. And I still need to learn how to properly cancel attacks into FA + dash on a 360 controller quick enough.
Does she have flashy combos? When I think of flashy I think of cool situational links or character specific combos.
I mained Ken so if I wanted flash I would go for something like:
Cl.mk, far.mp, sweep
(char specific)
Cl.mk, cr.hp xx hado fadc Cl.hk xx special (char specific)
Cl.mk, cr.hp xx hado fadc ultra 1/2
Fadcing the first hit of hp dp into a cr.lk and extending the grounded combo
Fadcing a dp and landing an airial ex tatsu etc
With poison her go to combos are already basic or 1 frame links and to get the ex fireball loop requires a corner and crouching opponent with strict spacing.
Only cool/flashy combos I do are
In the corner, ex rekka, lp rekka (1 hit), ex dp
Ending ex rekka into ex lmt for a KO
Close hk xx hp rekka (2 hit) red focus attack dash cancel, close hk xx ex rekkas, Hp rekkas
Looks cool but not worth it aside from that
She is placing pretty well in Japan’s Arcade Rankings and at one point was the most-used character among the top 100. Japan is definitely much higher on the character than the US, that’s for sure. Maybe Ricky (or someone else) will be able to show more of what the character can do in the States and turn that around. Still, I think they have her higher than where she’s going to end up, but who knows?
Did Nemo and Bonchan even explain why they placed Poison in the Top 5? Some of the comments from other users question their overall logic.
Poison is a very solid character, but she doesn’t have anything that gives her an edge against opponents. Top 5 is only reserved for characters that have something that make them overpowered. Realistically, Poison is a mid-tier character. Her 1f links make her a nightmare to combo with. She’s popular in Japan because a lot of Japanese players are perverts. Every FEMALE character in Street Fighter is placing well in Japan’s Arcade Rankings.
Also, Ricky Ortiz tried using Poison at one point but dropped her for Rolento/Rufus.
Ricky always drops female characters eventually. Ricky doesn’t believe in her bad bitches.
I knew Zangief would be thrown in there eventually. Nemo has been saying Poison top 5 since Ultra release, and Zangiefs army are coming strong with the few buffs they got.
I know this is 3 months old but you don’t really need to use st. lk , cr. hp or cr. lk, cl. hp in combos to get good damage out of her. Poison has decent damage output off cr. lk, cr. lp, st. mk xx rekka… I guess only thing to get used to is combo off her overhead and LMT.
Also, Air got top 8 in Canada Cup with Poison, so that’s something. Air’s Poison is crazy. If you haven’t seen it yet, peep this
