God forbid someone forsakes super top line whatever graphics for some portablility and taking up less space.
My laptop can run really low requirement games and that’s about it lol. Stuff like half minute hero and Skullgirls are just peachy on it. I’m sure yatagarasu will treat me the same when I pick it up. Not bad considering I only bought it as a school computer. Best Buy salesman was a cool guy that day
To answer your question OP
Is PC gaming on the rise? Yes, it’s always been doing well but it’s poised to do better this coming gen.
In console gaming on the decline? Nope, you’ll always ALWAYS find people who prefer to play on consoles as opposed to PC, and since the PS4/Xbone have PC architecture as their base you’re bound to see even more PC exclusives jump ship over to consoles as well.
I thank GOG for giving us System Shock 2.
Until PC can get some good exclusives they’ll never take the crown
If you look at dollars and cents, it’s true that PC gaming HAS BEEN on the rise and console games is declining for the past few years, but that’s partially because two of the main products in the console market are on the declining phase.
However, judging by the pre-orders of the upcoming PS4 and X-Box One, the console market will rise again. And this is the way it been with every console generation. Nothing really interesting or special here, just simple business 101.

I’m going for an Alienware laptop this year. The only thing I’m looking forward to on PS4 is Metal Gear Solid V.
Someday the entire MGS library will come to Steam. Someday. ;_;
Get a Sager.

Don’t be THAT guy…
Games like Dota, LoL seem to be blowing up and I think they are definitely two reasons why PC gaming is on the rise.
MOBA= type of game
PC= hardware
How does success of one translates to success of the other? It’s not your usual PC genres are getting more play than usual. How many new RTS games have been coming out lately? And all the multi-platform titles are made with console in mind first, PC port later, which makes for some very silly “PC gaming”. Like, you have a keyboard with a ton of buttons but stick you need to pick items and shit from a wheel as if you were limited by an analog controller.
Yea I looked at Sager’s webpage and they offer better value all around. Also they seem to be the only ones doing 120hz screens on laptops. Thanks
120HZ monitors? Goddamn. Need beast specs to keep games running @ 120 HZ and high settings, though. Or you can nuke your settings for performance. Whichever you prefer. :tup:

Until PC can get some good exclusives they’ll never take the crown
PC has more exclusives than any single console. Endless backwards compatability, man. I can play PC exclusives from 1995 if I want to. Shadow Warrior, Blood and Rise of the Triad ALL DAY!

Until PC can get some good exclusives they’ll never take the crown
Starcraft, Counterstrike, DotA, League of Legends are some examples of pretty successful exclusives, I hear.
Edit: inb4 Starcraft 64
Diablo 2 is one of the greatest games of all time, and it can only be played on one platform.
@Sonicabid
It’s great to see someone who really appreciates id.

One question. Have you read “Masters of Doom”? It’ll you through an intense journey of how id and PC gaming started. As soon as I received the book from Amazon I just couldn’t put it down.
http://www.amazon.com/Masters-Doom-Created-Transformed-Culture/dp/0812972155/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377308655&sr=8-1&keywords=masters+of+doom
Doom 1 Ep.1 is the best of all time. And I’m not just saying that because it’s free lol. The levels did a perfect job of showing off what this new game was all about, and truly making you feel like you’re trapped in a hell infested shuttle. Seeing a a fireball coming at your face in 1993 must of been crazy.
But for the rest of the game and Doom II it just loses its charm a bit. I couldn’t get into Hexen/Heretic the same way. Ugh Doom 3 really takes the cake, although I will give it another shot once I have a decent rig.
On the talk about WADs and Mods, it takes old id games to another level.
Just one example:
This ridiculous shit.
Let my reiterate. Until PC gets the same exclusives as consoles (Mario, Zelda, Uncharted, Gears, God of War, etc) they’ll never take over the gaming market. Besides casuals wouldn’t bother with making adjustments and configure audio/visual/graphics/mapping they would rather pop in and play.
@blueleon I mentioned the Brutal Doom mod in my earlier post already! :tup:
I haven’t read that book, no, but dudes like Tom Hall and Romero(original Doom 1 and 2 developers for those who don’t know) went on to help make Rise of the Triad, Shadow Warrior and Duke Nukem 3D, which is why those games are amazing as they are. Definitely snag the GOG releases then mod Duke to have 24/7 freelook for one of the best FPS experiences around. Truly something else. Blood is really good, too.
I might look for a PDF of the book or something around the net. Look at this hilarious DOOM 1 mod that’s inspired by Doom 3, it’s hilarious:

Really fun, too. Check out my twitch channel in my sig, I streamed Quake 1/2 with modern graphic mods and a bit of DOOM with a high-res texture mod.

Exclusives like StarCraft and WoW are even bigger than those games. Lifetime sales of a game like Diablo 2 >> lifetime sales of all those games you mentioned(except maybe the Mario game that got packaged with the original NES if you want to count that.) Whenever PC exclusives like Minecraft stop being PC exclusive and come to other platforms, they sell like crazy. I guarantee Diablo 3 console sales will be fucking nuts, Diablo 3 broke records and sold insane amounts and it was a PC exclusive for a long time, even though it was a disappointing game for most in the end.
VTMB and Deus Ex.
Anybody reinstalled either?
Pc gaming ftw…man, i dont even play a lot of the popular pc titles, like the op listed. I play lots of games though. Shit is beast, I dont even fuck with my consoles anymore. Use my ps3 for netflix.
But pc man, everything is faster, everything is 60fps, choose any control methode I want, choose from multiple voice chat programs and in game chat. Every online game supports either voice or text chat. I can play a vast library of new and old games, pc or console. I can record any of it and edit it as I see fit. Man, I could go on and on listing the virtues of pc gaming.
Anyhow, console gaming is strong and isnt going anywhere. I still think the vast majority of gamers would rather just play on a console. silly
Edit - Handhelds. They are pretty beast. IMO handhelds and PC is the future.

VTMB and Deus Ex.
Anybody reinstalled either?
Original Deus Ex was mostly made by Tom Hall and John Romero too.
I always thought that a lot of PC components’ life expectancy was super short. Back in the 90’s my father spent thousands of dollars on a top notch business PC only to have it be obsolete in a very short time span. Is it true that as soon as you get the latest and greatest graphics card, the moment you install it, there already talk about another one being made that out performs what you just installed? How often do you have to switch out components that justifies doing so over a console you buy one time and wait a number a years before that one becomes phased out? I also don’t like the idea of the possibility of frying shit or having shorts that could cause fires. But back when GTA San Andreas was new, my friend showed me the possibilities of what you can do with the game, like real car/bike mods and I was blown away.
One other thing, I played a lot of COD since mw2 and am fed up with the shitty experience of online. How big of a difference in online play is it? Do you get flawless lag free gaming on PC? I might turn to PC if what all was said is not.
