Some of the games on the https://www.humblebundle.com/ look cool. Rocketbirds, Bastion and Mark of the Ninja. Killing Floor is a game I’ve always wanted to try, as well as this one monster/zombie-esque “horde” style game that I forget the name of. Oddly enough I’m more interested in console exclusives and older portable games ATM. That’ll change once next-gen ports start hitting PC, though.
If you’re dead broke, there’s always emulation and pirating. Morals aside. What PC did you get?
Hey guys so I am trying to learn and figure things out.
I am trying to figure out the price differences in processors by looking at some. Between these two, the difference seems to be the processing speed and the internal graphics.
Is the reason the more expensive one actually more expensive just because the integrated graphics are better and possibly power consumption?
I am not getting either one of these processors, I am going to either get an amd quad core or possibly an i5 quad core. I am just using these to figure out differences in pricing.
Thanks.
The main difference between those two CPUs is that one is Ivy Bridge (3rd gen) and one is Haswell (4th gen). I don’t know exactly how much of an improvement Haswell is over Ivy Bridge, but I’ve heard it’s not very significant. I would recommend sticking with a faster Ivy Bridge for the cost.
Edit: Also worth noting that a Haswell motherboard will likely be more expensive as it uses a different socket type.
I mostly compare CPUs using tomshardware. That and anandtech are the two major sites you should be using. Tomshardware does monthly articles comparing components and breaking it down by value.
There is a certain sweet spot for price and performance on CPUs. Sometimes newer iterations aren’t necessarily better for games. Also usually 4 cores and a higher speed are better for games than more cores and lower speed.
I would stick with Intel for my CPUs and NVidia for GPUs. I’ve tried everything and those just seem to perform better and have less issues. By everything…the only other option is really AMD. It’s too bad we don’t have more in the marketplace, competition is better for customers.
Thanks I will use those sites. Right now I am considering an intel i5 quad core or amd quad core. Leaning towards intel because i hear better performance and power usage.
Not looking at anything dual core and I was considering 6 core but I will have to research six core more because like you said more speed at 4 cores seems to better than lower speed at 6 cores.
Having a gaming PC at last has made me realize that I need to find something else to occupy the rest of my pathetic life with. Can’t just game forever y’know.
my friend is selling his rig for $500: 8gb RAM, i5, 250 gb hd, AMD 6690 HD radeon gfx
$650 for rig + 23" monitor, gaming mouse and gaming keyboard. is it a good price? i just want the rig
I’m looking to build a top of the line rig myself when my finances ease up a bit probably by mid next year. Should be just around the time the next gen Intel chips come out, and in preparation for Fallout 4 (which won’t even need high specs). But it’s something I always wanted to do.
Do you water cool? That seems like it would be fun, I’m thinking of water cooling my current rig so if I build that dream rig I want I’ll already know what I’m doing.
Usually your CPU, mobo and VGA are going to be the majority of your build cost. There really isn’t much else. RAM is cheap, HDDs are cheap, SSDs are down in price now too.
Sorry for the double post guys. What makes you think i won’t have a life? I know what my priorities are in life. I have a gaming PC, i don’t even stay up past midnight.
Ce1erity. Feel free to add me, but you’d kick my ass at KoF.
Mmm, depends on exactly what type of i5 and the exact video card, cooling setup, PSU, case, etc. but I don’t think so. You can assemble something a little better new for less, especially after Black Friday. $500 isn’t a total ripoff though if you’re too lazy to put something together. Just make sure the i5 is Ivy or Sandy Bridge
actually I have a massive radiator with multipme internal fans and a big external fan.
the gpu stays at 67 degrees Celsius when palying metro on full settings and the cpu always below 53 celcuis when running cpu heavy programs like light wave. however once money comes in I. going to go water cooling. should be cheaper and more efficient. which will be mandatory with next gen.
