Is PC gaming really on the rise, while console gaming is declining?

So even if my friend does not have a graphics card for me to use. I figure I wont really have a problem waiting to play online as I am not the impulsive buyer I used to be, just gonna stay on console for awhile longer. That said I am thinking about buying my first major part or parts for my PC during black friday/Cyber monday.

What is the best thing to get to build around? Should I get a case and then build around that? Should I get the graphics card and build around that? Maybe the battery and build around that.

As some of you already know I wont need it to be super powerful as the only game I am really interested in playing would be KOFXIII and perhaps some Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed or other titles here and there on steam but nothing like Crysis(I only use this as an example because I think it is really graphically intense but I really have no idea lol).

Mobo and CPU…

Cool I have plenty of time to do the research on which I should get. thanks

You know, you might not even need a graphics card right away. A few of the Intel and AMD CPUs actually have a built-in GPU that might be enough for your purposes. This would save you money on your VGA (GPU/VGA/graphics card are all pretty interchangeable terms) and would allow you to still upgrade it later.

Now we need to figure out if these combination CPUs are good enough for your purposes, but we might be able to figure that out if you link us at least to the required/recommended specs for the games you’re looking to play.

Integrated GPU’s are garbage. I don’t think sik wants to play his games at > 20 FPS on lowest-mid settings.

Was looking at graphics cards and found a 7750 for $50 after mail in rebate which is really cheap for a 7750.

That’s a DDR3 card. For that same initial price you can get a much better performing GDDR5 card. It’s easily worth the extra $30.

The games he wants to play, if they can run on an integrated GPU it could be good for him right now. He doesn’t really want much.

I’ve heard good things about AMD’s integrated platform. One of their APUs is rated the best “bang for the buck” CPUs for entry level gaming.

Yeah I wanted to point this out too.

They will run on an integrated GPU. They just won’t run well, and that’s the point.

I’ve always wanted a good gaming rig… The idea of Alt Tabbing out of a game to search information online/youtube/facebook has always been something I fantasied about, sadly just never had the money.

Being that fighting games were the only games that I ever cared about and that xboxes were 150-200$ at the time of my playing, the price difference was always the main factor keeping me hung up on consoles.

But now… seeing as these next generation consoles will be 400-500$ on their drop date: buying additional controllers/online subscriptions and additional video games will surely send the total money spent SOARING above that of the standard gaming rig.

On top of the savings already made from buying PC parts this coming blackfriday/cyber monday
I’ll finally be able to save even MORE money by taking part in being showered by Steam’s frequent, constant, JUICY sales that I hear oh so much about all the time from my PC using friends…
A change that I can’t wait to make.

So are consoles done for?
not necessarily, I don’t think consoles will be wiped off the market anytime soon.

however the weather forecast for this coming year, I predict we’ll be seeing an increase in the number of members to the PC master race.

This is actually something that I was going to do and was going to make a cheap build out of this, since this will be able to run the game no problem

however the more I have been thinking about my rig and how I want it to be, the more I just think about taking my time and making myself a pc that can not only run the little games I want but also be a nice little multimedia machine and also stay pretty quiet.

I also ended up buying that cheap little 5450 graphics card that was on sale for $10 and tbh it almost played the game perfectly, right now it can play the game jumping anywhere from 55 fps to 75 fps. If I could get the memory clock to overclock past 800mhz without freakin out then I would actually be able to play the game with this little card.

Does oveclocking have anything to do with the battery at all? Even if it does, I am most likely going to get something just above this graphics card and a bigger battery supply if I can find them cheap for black friday. My focus, however will be on getting a quality mobo and cpu for my gaming rig.

Spend an extra $20 and get the 6800K. It will be worth every bit.

And yes, overclocking will rape your battery. It’s economics. There is no free lunch, if you’re familiar with the term. You pay for performance, in terms of both power consumption and heat, which ultimately destroys electronics. You cannot get around this. Cooling can only go so far, and you pay for it via having to add coolant as it evaporates or in running fans (consuming more power) to blow heat away from conductive heat sink materials. As far as power goes, well the manufacturers deal with that by making the circuit paths shorter. A shorter circuit path requires less energy to function and produces less heat. Less heat makes the circuit more energy efficient, ad nauseum. It’s a never ending battle. You can’t get performance without spending something. That’s why every new CPU chip that comes out gets smaller and smaller and smaller…

What happens if you run a game your PC cannot handle? Will the power supply blow up? I asked this before to some friends on XBL and they said " haha’ no. Your PC’s power supply must really suck if that we’re to happen!" I remember in 2003 as a 9 year old kid, we had an old PC in my living room and my friend let me borrow the original Halo. When i was at the main menu i got a message saying " Your PC does not have the recommended specs required to run this game, continue anyways?" So i continued anyways and played through the first level. The cutscenes we’re practically unplayable, and during the level, i got a few skips but very minor ones. As soon as the second level started( The part when you escape your ship the Autumn and land on Halo) my PC made a loud popping sound and my computer turned off. After that, it would never power on again. Lol
My uncle who worked for NASA told me the power supply was blown. Haha’
Now that i just got a mid/high end PC a week ago( Think running Battle Field 3 on Medium settings) I’m scared to run anything on Max settings due to that fateful day… I’m serious ._. I do plan on upgrading it though.
Do all games give you a message? When is the time i should get my ass off that game!? PC roaring loudly? what!? I know some games your PC might emergency shut down right?

^Sounds like a malfunction(or just bad luck) more than anything else. Probably has nothing to do with the game.

@sikwidit
You’re not just going to be playing KOF13 on your new build. Think bigger and spend a little more.

You flipped the quantum bit that dictates (and I quote here): ‘If you’re paranoid of some catastrophe occurring to your computer, then the chances that said catastrophe will occur increases in proportion to your fear.’

Zen computing 101.

In all seriousness, yes, cheap PSU’s blow all the time because they are pushed beyond their operating parameters. a GOOD one won’t, but the cheap ones that come with most production PCs, or cost $25 on Newegg and feel as light as a piece of paper in your hands will. PSU is the heart of your system. Make sure it’s at least as good as what it’s powering.

Man, im a bad guy. I’ll leave a game running on my pc for hour and hours, days even. Bad habits die hard.

In 05’ I saw some dude’s rig and I was intrigued on how this dude and a cooling system that you’d see in cars(hoses, fan IIRC looked it was hooked up to a radiator or something). I think sometime in the future, I’ll have to build one.

Actually I most likely will but that is not the point did you read my posts? I am actually going to build a quality rig, the cheap gpus are just for the pc I am using now just so I can play KoF13 in the meantime until my actual rig is done. I dont see a point in spending 70 or so bucks on a temporary gpu when I can put that towards my actual build. I dont care if the cheap gpu dies, burns out, cries, or whatever it is just something cheap to last a couple months.

I had a power surge blow one of my old Power Supplies.

Now, my power supply has a built-in surge protector, my PC is connected to a surge protector, and the motherboard itself also has a built-in surge protector.

SURGE PROTECTION!

Some dudes take building their rig to the next level. They’ll toss in a see-through case, LED lights, watercooling, and all kinds of random shit to make it look “cool.” Very similar to car fanatics who mod their rides.
