Is PC gaming really on the rise, while console gaming is declining?

So you’re a casual gamer with a heavy focus on fighting games? Im guessing you will be getting the Xbox One for Killer Intinct? Have you been able to play it. Will you play it before committing to buying the console? Or will you just jump in and hope its as good as you thought it would be? What if the game isnt really that great? What if most of them arent really that great? I would assume if you werent really impressed with last gen then next gen would not impress you. Unless you’re a graphics whore.

After you build your PC you can re-use a lot of the components, so it’s the same as “I already had a TV.”

I have that same stick, I paid $140 for it. I never use it. Talk about an expense, why not use some cheap gamepad? The reason is because you like having the stick to enhance your experience. So you can’t then turn around and get on people that enjoy better graphics and a PC interface vs. a console interface.

The facebook thing is mostly there to make you angry and fly off the handle so I can pick you apart and make fun of you. Actually that entire post I made was designed for that, because I figured it would be funny and thought I’d just pick on you for awhile on the internet to amuse myself.

But since you didn’t take the bait, it means you actually won. So as the winner, I apologize to you for my attempted troll. Hopefully people do not take your example and instead react in the usual way. If everyone reacts like you…this place has changed a hell of a lot the past few years.

I suppose it’s for the best, I have football games to watch right now.

Your argument about price is really flawed. If you already need a computer for homework/web stuff, the difference in price between a rig that can play games decently and one that can’t is $200 or less, which is much cheaper than a new console. While laptops are more expensive, a decent one will run you $800 and play modern games for 3-4 years.

The only reason people think computers are expensive/a waste of money is because they buy shitty components that aren’t a good value, and aren’t futureproof.

I will never, ever, buy an xbox one, period. I may get a ps4 when there is a price drop though.

I always try before i buy in some way shape or form. If its at Next Level, if I have time and the drive i will make the trip to Next Level to try it for a little bit.

And lol if i can stomach akatasuki blitzkampf and the entire liabrary of the n64 you know i am no graphics whore.

I am leaning towards the GT220, seems cheap enough to do what I need and get me going on some KOF for now.
Thoughts?

What? That card is like 5 years old, where would you even find it? And no, you should not spend any amount of money on that card. You should look at a mid-level $100 card like the ones I mentioned.

I say have some patience and just wait to build your other PC. Save your money, and play it at a frends house or something.

this is not for my gaming pc, this is just for the cheapest way to get my current pc to play kof right now. When I build my actual gaming pc I will get a much better and current graphics card.

How much can you get it for? If it costs more than $30 then I say it’s a complete waste of money. You can get a 10x better card for $60-70.

Why don’t you just look on craigslist or ask someone for their old card? People that upgrade frequently should have newer cards they probably are willing to get rid of. Most people will give it away for free, or charge something like $10 just to get something. The average enthusiast will replace their GPU every 2 years or so, and it’s still going to be a pretty good card for 4-5 years usually especially if you don’t look to play stuff at really high end graphics.

Hell if you’re in the NYC area, I’ll give you one of mine in exchange for a few drinks. I should have an AMD 6870 or something lying around.

I actually wasnt going to spend more than 30 for it because I do know it is an old card.

I might look to craigslist. Unfortunately I am not in the NYC area but I do have a friend that is a regular PC gamer so maybe he will have an extra one lying around. It’s funny I dont know why I never thought about asking before.

The way I see it is, I have no problem spending about 30 bucks if I am able to play today rather than having to wait to put my whole pc together because one thing I dont want to do is rush into buying a pc. Even though it wont need to be the highest end pc to do what I want. I would still like to take my time with it and make it pretty nice.

You can get a radeon hd 7750 for $70 after a $30 mail in rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131461&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction--na--na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= It should be able to run most modern games, not in high settings though, but maybe in mid settings. But if you want to go cheapest as possible then you can get this radeon hd 5450 for $10 after a $20 mail in rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=14-131-338&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=8#scrollFullInfo It is good for light gaming for games like minecraft and league of legends, but it might not be able to run most modern games, maybe in really low settings. I think this card should be able to run KOF13, but I’m not sure though.

Edit: If you are gonna get the 7750 get the 7770 instead. It is the same price, but it is more powerful and it comes with a free game http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131488&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction--na--na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

I actually saw that one for 10 and looked into and it may be feasible for my something cheap right now. The only thing that turned me off to it was that it is 64 bit and KOF recommends at least 128 bit. I hear that the difference between 64 bit and 128 bit only really matters for 3d games but I really dont know.

Try looking at ebay. Was looking at graphics cards and found these, a Radeon HD 5870 with the starting bid a $0.01 http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATI-Radeon-HD-5870-1GB-Graphics-PCI-E-GDDR5-SDRAM-Video-Card-/300966962832?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item4613076690 and a 7950 with the starting bid at $0.99 http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAPPHIRE-HD-7950-100352-4L-Radeon-Multi-Display-Graphics-Card-Sapphire-Video-/231054738434?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item35cbef8402

Thanks will do if my friend doesnt have any to spare. Thanks for all the help to everyone else as well. When I start building my actual gaming pc I am going to post up the build and get some opinions.

@sikwidit Make sure your motherboard can support whatever new GPU you’re going to get. Your 128MB video card is ancient, your mobo might only support PCI-E1.0 or 2.0 at most.

actually @Sonicabid that is correct my mobo only supports up to 2.3(or something) I believe, which is also why I was looking for a cheaper and older card because I dont think it would support the newer ones. Although I have read that you could use a higher number card in a lower number port but not the reverse. You just wont profit off of it.

1GB GDDR5 PCI-E 2.0 GPU. $70 is kind of pricey though, but you should be able to find cards around this power range for $50-70 or less. Should be more than enough for KOF, and that card will run every modern game fine if you decide to play more than just KOF down the line.

Not that particular card though, the 630 runs fairly hot and that heatsink looks really cheaply made. Reviews confirm this. Besides, for $20 more you could get a 7770 which easily triples the 630’s performance.

The idea of spending $20 or so just to run your game for now is fine, but I really wouldn’t recommend buying one of these cheap older generation cards, because they’re not very good value and won’t last you half as long as a $100 card.

PC gamers are like Mormons or Latter Day Saints who go door to door, trying to get people to convert. Except you guys turn into Evangelical pricks on /v/

Anybody who calls themselves a *true * or real gamer will know that it’s all about game design, not hardware performance. Therefore, stick to old school gaming while these plebs with SHIT taste wallow in filth of over-produced Hollywood cracker-ass honkey bullshit.
