Is PC gaming really on the rise, while console gaming is declining?

I thought star craft 2 heart of the swarm was the only PC game?

you guys are dumbasses, the xbox 360 is the best gaming system better than PC.

GTA4 and Black Ops 2 runs at 100fps on the Xbox 360

Macs are for people who don’t know how to use computers.

I’m on ST several times a week, play me sometime.

How safe is it to take your laptop overseas with you? What happens if you’ve got banned games stored on your computer? Well not as if we’re trying to break the law.

I’m scared to deal with these things when I have to go to China.

I will give my thoughts on mac and pc. I don’t believe pc is superior to mac or mac is superior to pc, they both have their ups and downs. I have used both, and i currently have a pc and mac in my household, not owned by me though, but by my family members who lives with me. For mac, it’s all about the beautiful OS, It is not as glitchy as windows and I prefer the user interface of a mac over the user interface of a pc, but thats all opinion. To me, it feels like a pc tends to get slower after months of use and they get random errors and a mac doesn’t. I believe people who do design and editing stuff tend to get a mac because of mac apps like logic pro and final cut and because of the user interface. the iMac also has an ips screen which means vivid and more accurate colors which is very important for designers, photographers, and other stuff, but you can buy an ips monitor for your pc for $200+. Even, the macbook pro has an ips display and that gorgeous, mouth watering retina display (which is worth the extra $200). Sure, there are other laptops with ips display, but the macbook pro has one of the best screens out there for a laptop. There are also people who travel and needs portability when they do their photo/editing/design stuff and they need a powerful laptop with a display that has vivid and accurate colors, so they pick a macbook pro over a windows laptop. What sucks about mac is that it isn’t meant for gaming. You can play games on it, but there ain’t much games that support the mac, and you can’t customize the mac as much as you can with a pc. For pc, you got a wide range of cusomization and you can change parts in your desktop, which is good for gaming. The PC is also good for design/editing stuff too. But the pc does require more maintenance.

For desktop, I would build a pc for gaming and design stuff when I am home, but If I need to travel and get out of the house and I need a powerful laptop with a IPS display for design/editing stuff, I would choose a macbook pro. Unless, you go to lan parties, than get a gaming laptop.

Mac
Pros:

  • OS X not as glitchy as Windows
  • Less viruses and maintenance
  • IPS display on iMac and Macbook
  • Software like Final Cut and Logic Pro
  • Design on iMac and Macbook is beautiful and high quality
  • Very fast and doesn’t slowdown after months of use
  • Good for designers
  • Mac has a more enjoyable user interface

Cons:

  • Less Customization
  • Not good for gaming
  • Cost more

PC
Pros:

  • Wide range of customization
  • More software in the windows store than the mac store
  • Good for gaming
  • Good for designers
  • Cost less

Cons:

  • Higher chance of viruses and requires more maintenance
  • Tends to slow down after months of use
  • Windows gets glitchy and errors at times

I like both PC and Mac, but to me it feels like when it comes to desktops, PC wins, but when it comes to laptops, Mac wins.

For those wondering what I’m using right now to type all of this, I’m using a Samsung Chromebook. Yes a chrome OS. I’m only 17 and I don’t have that much money. It costs $250 or less and it is really really fast. It never slows down on me and it boots up in less than 5 secs. The cpu is a cpu used for mobile phones and it only has 2 gb of ram and it can still run as fast as your computers with i3, i5, i7, and 4+ gb of ram. Chromebooks are great for browsing the web and typing documents/essays. If I ever need to do some design stuff. I’ll just use a family members computer. But once I get the money I will build this beast http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1zcLa

Most of the pros that you list for Macs are the same for a PC running any open source OS. In the case of software, it’s Apple that doesn’t make Logic or Final Cut available for Windows. There are a ton of alternative software to Logic, though that is even superior. I’m not familiar enough with Final Cut to say the same, but I’m sure there are alternatives. If those came free with OSX, then your point might have more merit, but rigth now, it’s the console vs. PC equivalent of console exclusive gaming.

Windows requires more maintenance, but to just say that it slows down after months of use isn’t necessarily fair. I do agree that OSX is much faster and lighter than Windows (I haven’t tried 8 yet though). However, it’s the operating system that’s flawed, not the actual hardware. I still have the option of using whatever OS I choose - yes, even OSX.

To me, I can’t see anything other than a swanky physical design as the selling point for Macs, which is fine, just not for me. I personally think that for 90% of laptop users a Windows-based system or a Chromebook is more than sufficient.

man no one here has a sense of humor

I had no problems taking my laptop with me anywhere I’ve been travelling. On the other hand, Japan and Malaysia are both quite safe places, and I never really felt like anyone was going to steal my shit. Hell, I once left my wallet on a train in Japan and they mailed it too me after they found it.

In Japan they asked me once if I was bringing in any porn, which I didn’t have on my laptop anyway, and they didn’t check it after I said no.

I’ve never been to China, so I can’t really comment on that.

Best way to travel safely: use only cloud-based storage and only bring boot media. Keep the thumb drive/floppy/cd-rom used to boot your laptop with you, separate from the PC.

Your only problem is entering the US, where it’s subject to be taken from you indefinitely and even if you do get it back you’ll never be 100% certain that the hardware hasn’t been compromised.

Should be. Either way, it’s on Supercade (formerly known as 2d fighter a couple years back), and probably MameHub too.

Also… PCSX2 if you just want to play by yourself at home and have a rig good enough to run a PS2 emulator.

From what I’ve seen, Macs are good for hooking up in coffee shops, if you lack game.

Personally, IDGAF, and rock that Sager with > 9000+ than an iMac.

Pro tip: a sketchbook is a far greater pussy magnet that an iMac could ever aspire to be.

Also:

Personally, I cannot WAIT until the MS Surface Pro 2, ahem, surfaces next year.

It looks to be the perfect notebook + sketchbook, in tablet form.

Lololololol @ Wacom’s offering.

It’s not officially/legally supported on GGPO, but there are ways, you’ll have to look around. Technically, you can play any compatible arcade game on GGPO if you go through the proper steps. Some people used to play the old D&D games on there.

Celerity changed his avatar picture, Noooo! Time to change mine too then.

They are all in the game list (D&D too), just click and play.

ive been using macs since the 90s never had a problem with them, never crashed, or broke down, never had 1 virus. Mostly use it for making youtube vids, and playing starcraft 2 heart of the swarm

I never had a virus on either of my regular laptops since 09. Last virus I had was in… 2005?

Whereas my other family members had to factory reset almost every damn month and had toolbars that covered half the screen.

If you got a bit of protection i’m running with free anti virus software rofl and you’re not taking bad risks, you don’t have to worry much about viruses with any computer/laptop.

Hell even if I do make a mistake and the site i’m entering is slightly questionable, the browser gives me a heads up to bail.

ive been using macs since 1990s and never had a virus so ya. PCs have more games, if you have the money then buy a mac, the vid editing software is really good, if movies is your thing

Keep in mind in 05 I was probably going ham over porn like a amateur and got myself wrecked. From there I learned my mistakes to not go to suspicious as fuck porn sites and avoid clicking any ads. Think a lot all of us here are veterans in that field by now.

No to a high degree. I think the gaming industry is just fluctuating for the most part where the dominance of PC and console switch places.
