Is KoF XII really that bad?

I’ve never liked any capcom fighter, so i dont agree

Maybe if they stick dante in it :stuck_out_tongue:

As for releasing the game in this state, I guess sometimes a game company just needs to get something, anything out there to get some cashflow. Remember, every month the game is unreleased they still have to pay all their staff. Only companies like Capcom and Blizzard are rich enough to wait forever.

SNKs recent moves all smack of desperation. Maybe if they were making big money from japanese arcades they’d be ok, but it doesnt sound like they are.

Maybe they should have dedicated the resources spent on KOF THE SHMUP or KOF THE MMO (that no one is going to play) to, I dunno, KOF The Fighting Game?

Shitty 3D rehashes that run on nostalgia are good games?

But if it was SNKP and Capcom working on the same game it would be superb (granted if they keep SNKP in line )

Oh snap, XBL update now!

Looking at the japanese website, seems like they’re dedicating their efforts to dating games on the DS.

If by effort you mean porting cellphone games.

I think it’s best to just stick to 2-man rooms, cause if otherwise and another person joins then the connection becomes pretty bad.

I hosted up a 2-man room for about 90 min and everyone that joined, the matches were totally playable.

SNK still has work to do on the netcode, but minimizing possible increase in lag right now, by playing only 2 man rooms with yellow or better is satisfactory until SNK makes this better.

Yeah, I commented that in the update thread. It’s pretty imperative to set the limit on the room to 2 or 3 people, as the match will run at the speed of the laggiest person in the room.

That’s to say if, for instance you have 4 people in the room.

You.
A person with a blue connection.
A person at a yellow.
And one at a red.

Everyone in the room is going to be playing at Red’s speed.

The Shmup should’ve been a free extra on this.

And the MMORPG is not SNK’s. They only licensed the IP off.

Doesn’t help… I just tested with another person in TN in a 2 person room with good connection and there was still a tremendous amount of lag. It was better than yesterday but far from playable. There was enough lag that it’s impossible to react to your opponent’s moves or punish.

I’ve spent some additional time with the game last night. I wanted to get a better understanding before I cast any sort of “judgement”…

The fighting engine…once I got the feel for it…is freakin’ fantastic and really fun.

I think some of your logic regarding DLC is different than mine… imo DLC should only things that aren’t particularly useful…perks and such and not something fundamental to gameplay. What we pay 60 dollars for should include all the useful/fundamental stuff… characters…modes…etc. DLC should be little perks like clothing or maybe stages… something that doesn’t diminish my playing experience if I dont have it. Afterall…when I pay 60 bucks it should be a COMPLETE game.

If you are going to exclude features and important things…you should lower the price to reflect this to 30 bucks or something…and let micro transactions bring it up to retail…It’s like PC’s where you can buy barebones…etc

We are essentially paying for is a shell or foundation for a game…not a complete one. Albeit it’s a good shell.

It’s a great game…and I will continue to play…heck even buy that Brady strat guide to support the community some more.

Fighting Engine good…but really? only 6 stages? What happened to the days where each char gets their own stage?

That’s on either you or your opponents connections. I have a very low lag tolerance, and in a 2 man room, yellow or better, the connection becomes finally playable.

With the netcode not being so hot, you have to try and play in the most optimal conditions possible, which would also include the actual times of day you’re playing, and your connection being used. Got to go the extra mile to make sure everything is just right before playing now.

SNK still has mad work to do man, but if you still want to play atleast make sure everything is as good as it can be on your end, and hope that it’s the same on your opponents end.

Anyone notice that most everyone picks a group with Kyo/Robert/Andy/Terry/Joe in it? That’s the only characters i’m seeing online.

My connection is fine… I play SF4 and BB online all day and never have a lag issue. This is the only game giving me trouble. My ports are open, my connection wired and my opponent from the same state had a yellow connection. There is nothing more that I could possibly have done and it was still unplayable. This sucks because I would have really enjoyed this game :frowning:

Im done giving SNK the benefit of the doubt now, Im seriously pissed…like I would even go back to SF4 and I really dislike that game but at least its freakin playable.

Now I have to work on my excuse for Gamestop:lame:

Well, I’m not even going to disagree with you, because my tolerance for lag is way too low too. The only thing I can say to you is that you can add me and we can try this shit ourselves.

SNK still needs to fix this shit, though, I haven’t forgotten that and won’t be satisfied if it’s not fixed too.

Projectjustice, I believe I’ve given you the wrong impression. I like some of SNK’s games (i.e., the ones that had a modicum of effort put into them). I really do. King of Fighters *98 (though it has some goofy shit in it) is a fun, tourney-worthy fighter. 2K2 is all right, but the Max chomboe stuff is kinda stupid (everybody gets genei-jin into super, wtf?). XI was a magnificent step in the right direction minus how godly Kula/Gato/Oswald are. Garou, with another installment or two (a la SF3) could have been legendary instead of just good. Samurai Shodown Anthology is an awesome deal, although online would have been nice. XII looks like a solid fighter, albeit possessing an underwhelming roster for a KOF game.

Now, with that said, I fucking hate SNK/SNKP as of late. They have made some awesomely stupid gaffes in terms of console releases. NGBC not once got ported correctly. XI on PS2 has slowdown on some stages (WTF?). KOF Collection on Wii has no friggin’ Vs. mode, the arranged soundtrack is sitting on the disc but not usable in-game, (insert other stupid crap), etc. KOF Orochi Collection on PS2 has too many problems to bother listing, suffice to say it’s not worth the DVD it’s printed on. I hate the MI series with a passion, but the only one that I or anyone else for that matter would care to play never was brought stateside. SamSho2, *98UM, and Garou for XBLA/PSN all are wastes of money due to them farming out the porting/programming to some random-ass Chinese company with, not surprisingly, random-ass Chinese company results. And now, their flagship title gets a decade-overdue facelift…and they completely drop the fucking ball where it counted (excluding gameplay).

Now, do you understand where I’m coming from?

So if u don’t like poor quality ports why don’t you buy an AES or MVS?
Random-ass Chinese people own them.

:wtf:

1.) I don’t know exactly what is goofy in 98, there isn’t any real glitchy tactics or combo’s…really the game doesn’t really have any that could really be considered goofy.

2.) Genei-Jin and SNK max combo’s are not even slightly similar. For starters, KOF02 remains a incredibly balanced tittled whth a large roster viability while genei-jin was literally a top tier tactic that is very difficult to counter. Not to mention you needed at least 2+ bars to do some real serious damage with the max combo’s plus it was openly avaible to the entire roster as opposed to a single character…equal distrubution is sometimes a good thing.

3.) Popular misconception…sure they are good but to proclaim them as godly would be about as accurate as to say that SF4 Sagat is unbeatable. XI isn’t the most balanced KOF out there, but it has decent roster viability in there top/high/mid tiers…a lot more then just 3 characters at least.

4.) I personally think Garou is equally as good as 3s, it has a better parry implementation/faster gameplay and it considerably more balanced although I d agree with u in that i wish SNK had continued with the FF franchise for at least 2 more games.

Oh, man, the irony just hit me like spit from a “close-talker.”

In the immortal words of The Great Terrence of House Bogard…

“Get serious.”

Where do you think a good deal of the piracy that drove SNK bankrupt was going on? North America? Europe?

(Here’s a hint: :china: )
