I don’t get the animosity/mockery towards ‘new schoolers’ from the ‘old schoolers’, seen a lot of it lately. I’d have thought it’d be nice to see a game you love/loved being played by new enthusiasts. I have a theory that this attitude comes from fear and/or frustration of the old school’s glory days being unknown to the new players, and the older players’ skillz and achievements being lost to time as the game moves on without them and they are forgotten. So they lash out at the newer players and try to humiliate them and make them feel small, making themselves look very petty and frustrated in the process.

@cirlclemasher I don’t think anyone here really worries too much about 09ers and such. The game is niche as fuck at this point in life, which fortunately for me and lucky others like myself wasn’t always the truth, and so you’re going to have some real hardcores. I don’t mean practice everyday for the first year of the game’s life and go to a few tournaments hardcore. I mean, hardcore, like, take a game that has no way of being broken apart by common tools and literally break it apart in a way that will make sense to all. Paintstakingly test out a hypothesis over years’ time, making sure there is nothing missing and fight an opponent at the same time. There’s much more to it but I’ll stop there.
I think the problem is that we have a lot of new members, or at least relatively new members (we’ll call them 09ers for now) that join the community and immediately ask for a hug. We reluctantly provide. Then fhey continue talking about the game like it doesn’t make sense to them but speak about it as if they were speaking from experience. We used to have a saying back in the day “You don’t gotta lie to kick it.”
Had he come in here saying, yeah I’m playing the game and it’s cool and all but I was hoping there were longer combos so I can actually start playing the game. Then we would’ve shown him the door and said, hey bro, we don’t do that shit. It’s not worth it this time. And he woulda been on his merry way.
