Yeah it happens quite a lot, especially in KOF where your usually canceling into command normal that requires a direction.
You just have to wait for the C or D to connect I guess.

Yes. IIRC it’s the same in Garou too. There’s input lag on buttons but not on directions. It’s annoying and I don’t understand why they persist with it.Quite possibly it’s a quirk of their input recognition code that they just ported over from the other games and never bothered to rewrite.
I’m not sure about KOF13 but in 98 you actually can’t do a back throw by pressing b+C/D. You have to do C/D~b, otherwise you’ll walk out of throw range in the delay before the button press registers.
It’s really odd, because even in training mode you can see the button inputs register before the motions, so there’s no reason for button inputs to lag because the game recognizes that you’ve pushed it before the motion.
Finally, FINALLY got a supercancel combo done consistently for the first time today. It’s only taken a week. LOL. Will go and practice it some more… and I am still loving this game. AE2012 update is out, and all I did was update and flip XIII right back in.
You could, but yeah the throw range is pretty short so most of the time a throw wouldn’t come out. It’s useful for running towards the opponent then ramming the stick back then pressing C or D to throw. Or if you’re walking back and not sure what the opponent will do and they randomly roll into you, you could just throw them while maintaining the back position and throw them with something like Joe’s C Throw since they can’t tech it. Otherwise it’s just easier to throw someone while not holding back on the stick and such.
Well basics combos aren’t THAT hard, just give you two or three months to be accustomed to them. Because it’s true their are really different to sf4 ones, and personally I can’t do cr.Lk,cr.Lk,cr.Lk,dp.Hp with Sagat (I hate links, or links hate me, who knows) and on KOF I’m able to do some HD combos in a match. So it’s more an other kind of skill than a tougher one.
Just keep in mind the buffer is really big, you must do the next move righter after the current one.
By example to do rekkas with Kensou, you must do qcf.P,qcf.P,qcf.K ASAP. You can delay it a bit but there is no timing to link them. Nevertheless because of the buffer you don’t need to do the 3 qcf. Test it, you can do qcf.P,qcf.P,K. If you push the P button after the second qcf right after the last of the qcf motion wait a bit and push K the third rekka will comes out.
Whose kind of tricks are written here :

Though, Trials combo are shit the most part of the time. And always a bad idea for newcomers. I recommand you to take a look at the srk wiki http://wiki.shoryuken.com/The_King_of_Fighters_XIII#Characters
Or there on Dream Cancel, where you will found, I think, better answers than here for this kind of questions since the whole site is KOF related.

The forums is making anew since the version console has changed lot of things. But you will found more informations than srk forums. Or at least ask anything someone will answer you, if it’s not a too advanced thing not yet determined.
Yeah, SSF4 is more demanding in terms of timing and KOF is more demanding in terms of execution. I feel a lot more comfortable with KOF because of that, my timing seems to not be up to scratch for even more basic combos in SF whereas with KOF it’s a matter of time to get the muscle memory down for the flow of directions you’ll be doing.
Best advice I can give is to ditch the PS3 pad. If you want a pad, I recommend the inpin converter from the etokki website so that you can use a PS2 pad. PS3 pads arent that great at registering diagonals so a lot of moves can be missed playing with those. I really recommend the silver PS2 pads, you can still find those around, eBay etc. For me they have slightly milder dpads than the standard PS2 controllers and a different kind of finish that allows your thumb to slide over them real easily.
Switching from PS3 to PS2 pad and the level of improvement is huge. Ive hated gaming on the 360 and PS3 since I have never found a pad that I am happy to play with. But since getting the inpin converters things have been back to normal, I am happy.
im kinda getting used to the execution. got bored and made a really small combo video lol. its about all im good for in fighting games is doing them in training mode
probably couldn’t do these in a match, my fundamentals suck as mentioned in my thread hehe

Wow, nice shit Mirazel. I’m jealous. I’ve been focusing on trying to get the fundamentals of KOF down so much that I haven’t even bothered trying to do combos or learn HD combos.
Hopefully the patch makes the netcode more playable. In the mean time messing around in training mode is my only option.
Here’s 3 combos I did for fun. I’ll be so happy if I land the K one online haha.

The execution can be a bitch at times but it does force my hand towards improvement. I mean I didn’t realize how sloppy my inputs were until Drive/Super cancels or FBs were coming out that I thought I hand input correctly. It’s why I haven’t played online at all. I would be embarrassed playing online and dropping rekkas and such.
I’ve never actually found the large input window to be a problem in SSFIV, since the combos usually don’t expose the issue. Although not as bad as SSFIV, KOF XIII has MUCH more leniency than old KOFs, especialy when lots of different moves and supers/neomaxs can all be around QCF-ish area. Like try doing uppercut with Robert, drive cancel into Ex dive kick, I keep getting neomax…So in short, make the execution in KOF even harder haha
But seriously the only thing that i’m finding hard is having the reactions in a real match to hit confirm your combo into HD activation. I’ll either do the normal combo by muscle memory, or in my excitement cancel into HD at the wrong moment and burn all my bar D:
Am I the only one who finds KOF’s controls easier than SF4’s? lol, to me, SF4’s weird and KOF is easier to pull things off. Although I didn’t pick up on the throw glitch(?) until someone pointed it out on this thread.
Real talk… SF4 bnb’s are harder than most Kof13 bnb. I have a hell of a hard time landing those 1 frame links or just doing moves from hits in general. The shortcut inputs really fuck me up.
But Kof13 I can do the craziest shit so easy. So much time to think of what input to press next with those long ass combos also lol. But previous Kof games were harder for sure.
Only thing I’m finding difficult is making my jump ins combo. Never seen a game with such little hit stun on jumping attacks before.
Do jumping lights (A,B) into standing heavys (C,D).
Close standing heavies come out faster than anything, even lights. Jumping lights usually have better hitboxes, so you can hit them closer to the floor with hops.
When you know that, you’ll be comboing stuff all day. You usually combo the jumping light, into close standing heavy into a command normal, cancel into a special.
Hitstun is the same as games like ST, 3s or any oldschool game.
The game should make this clearer, as people coming from SF understandably won’t understand the KOF combo system.
Can’t deny, I’ve been trying to combo jumping heavies into crouching lights like in street fighter. Thanks for the tip.
Any tips for dealing with fast overlapping inputs? Can’t get most of Elizabeths trials done, because I can’t do, dp+A DC qcf+A, without it canceling into super. I don’t need it for my BnB’s etc, but I’d like to complete all trials for my main team at least. I’m all done with Shen and King, so only Elizabeth left now. Doing dp+A DC qcf+C is fine, because I can delay/slow down the cancel, like I can slow it down in Shen’s HD combos to avoid a super.
Just bothering me a bit that I’m done with her mission 10, but can’t do her mission 3 because of this, haha
