I have a problem with people (mostly who DON’T have children themselves) being unable to differentiate between a disciplinary smack and going ham on your kid like they are an adult.

the other is abuse

It’s never right to hit another person period. This especially applies to a helpless child. Hitting them in the face is worse as it is more personal.
