There are a lot of differences between Asian and American cultures. It’s not as simple as, “beating your kids makes you dumb.” Immigrant families tend to be more traditional, that isn’t a surprise. Among those traditions is the backward one where you hit your kid.
Asians are a model minority because they get beat as kids. Most Asian cultures (typically ecluding Cambodia / Thailand / Laos etc) value education and expect success. In America, parents largely expect mediocrity.
It’s like saying Japanese have such a typically high lifespan because they consume so much tobacco and alcohol while ignoring their healthier eating and exercise habits. They live longer than average** in spite of** smoking and drinking.
There was a reason why I stopped trusting psychologists a long time ago…oh yeah you fuckers treat culture like its some “lulz no big deal” thing when it impacts people heavily. Lol at immigrant families being more traditional and american parents expecting mediocrity.

It’s hard as FUCK to get a job nowadays. NO ONE wants a 14-16 year old anymore. I went for bear MINIMUM, WITH VOLUNTEER WORK UNDER MY BELT. Still, places like fucking MCDONALDS don’t want us. Nothing but a buncha fucking failures taking up all of the spots. Hell, my mcdonalds was hiring, and they took a 20 year old over me. Us teens lose before we even try to get a job, seriously. Summer is a differant story, but good luck with your fucking boss paying you like 110, when you should get fucking 250, i calculated the taxex, and there is NO WAY i should have been getting that little.

I got hit several times when I was a kid, my younger brother never got hit.
My family raised me with discipline and my brother was able to do whatever he wanted.
I am studying a career, my brother left school when he was 16.
I have a job so I can bring food to the table, my brother doesn’t have a job but he is always asking for money to get drunk.
I spend time with my kids and enjoy every moment with them… my brother has kids, they haven’t met him yet.
Spanking makes a huge difference.

If you expect your children to act respectfully, then you should set the example for them to follow.
I try to discipline my children first with boring stuff like standing in a corner for several minutes of silence OR grounding them from TV, Games, Staying up later on Weekends. I only ever have to physically discipline my children a handful of times a year. They have clear behavioral expectations and I rarely have to resort to corporal punishment. The times I do though, I feel are appropriate to the misbehavior.
ex: Profanity or talking back/blatant lying gets a light slap with my fingers across the cheek, it hurts their feelings more than anything. Stealing earned a slap to their dominant hand and I made them talk to and apologize to the store manager after returning the item. 2 or 3 licks with a leather belt for fighting, throwing a tantrum, destroying something.
The above don’t ever lead to bloody noses, massive bruises, internal damage or broken bones. That is abuse, not punishment.
