Is Dudley Black or Indian

If dudley was black would that make him less of a cool character? So japanese, caucasian, chinese, and people from india are the only ones that carry the traits for intelligence. The reality that he has full african trait set is not even and option without him being mixed as an option to opt out of the thought of being black(african). How sad and racist SRK really is.
Having a stright nose bone or fine hair is not a trait solely belonging to the phenotype of the cauasian race.

We’ll find out from the developers soon!

Goddammit, this. This times 1000. Capcom is the only company that even attempts to break these stereotypes now besides when SNK made Seth, but when a character like Dudley is made all of a sudden it’s “oh he’s not black because his features don’t look black.”

Well guess what? Elena’s black and she has white hair and blue eyes. It’s called “creative license,” people. Dudley looks the way he does with his features and shit because guess what? Capcom wanted him to look that way.

Hell if you wanna go the “he doesn’t look black so he’s not” route I’ll tell you guys a little somethin’. I’m black but don’t completely look it. I had jaundice as a baby and it ruined my skin color. Now would you guys say that I wasn’t black because my skin color is extremely light? I would hope not.

you mean year 4

Not nearly as many.

I swear Dudley is Sri-Lankan/British…

Capcom throws out a game with hip hop beats and a rap theme and you are seriously still questioning that dudley is black when they already have two other characters of african decent. And if you don’t think Sean has the good old nigga blood in him you should be smacked in the face by one of his basket balls.

he’s a mix of all british ethnicitys.

and by the way, his gentlemanly ways and etiquette along with his fast accurate hands are based on chris eubank, not lennox lewis… lewis is just a meat head, nice guy but a meat head. chris eubank wears dicky bow’s and bowler hats, with a monicle in his eye and talking like a royal.

dudley = eubank

Word. You are on point with that one dude.

I bet Dhalsim is BLACK. I mean, he’s just ambiguous as Dudley.

Why does it matter? As a Brazilian, I don’t understand why Americans are so obsessed with ethnicity/race. The Japanese don’t think of race when designing characters, generally speaking. The characters may happen to be black/white/etc depending on their country of origin, but they’re not designed with their race in mind (generally speaking, then again). They happen to be of that race/ethnicity because their country of origin is a certain country. In some cases, even when we know the countries where they were born, they’re still not of any particular ethnic group/race. They are what they are. Japanese people are more concerned with a “cool”/good character design rather than the character’s ethnicity/race. Pretty much like it’s impossible for people to shoot energy waves from their hands, the characters are an extension of the fantasy found in Japanese pop culture (manga, anime, games, etc).

Also, Ryu is 100% Japanese. He was based on Masutatsu Oyama.

Maybe he’s half caste?

No such thing as tanned British guys. They barely get any sun over there.

Dudley is black. Seriously people. “He has no black features” Cough Elena* cough cough Birdie* cough. he is based of Chris Eubanks:

He is based of black boxers who used to have straight hair

I think I just found an incentive to watch Bleach now. Thank you pointless thread.

Watch this clip from 2:55

As an American who has spent several years dating a Brasilian lass, I must say that I find your assertion of not understanding obsession with ethnicity/race to be utterly hilarious.

And patently fraudulent.

The truth may be a matter of shades of gray, but the sad reality of Brasil is that people are seen in shades of black - the less the “better”.

Yes, I know all about “Whitening”.

It manifests itself in every interaction in Brasil.

So don’t diss the U.S. for having its share of racial problems when racism runs so deeply imbedded in your own culture.

For real.

Also, why so serious over Ryu?

I guess even his race is vastly important to you…

On topic: I think Dudley is Indonesian-Indian British, that his “race” is irrelevant, and that I’d use him even if he were a fucking Martian.

Because that’d be one cool fucking Martian.

People in this thread need to define what “Black” means to them.

I was not dissing the US, it’s just that I don’t understand why people care about things like that. I do know about the problems of my country, but I also know that I’m yet to see these kind of discussions on Brazilian forums. That’s about it. Cultural differences, shock, call it what you like. I wasn’t trying to say there is no racism in Brazil.

Also, I wasn’t “so serious over Ryu”, I was just clearing up some things since people were thinking he didn’t look Japanese.

You’re probably reading too much into my comment. I didn’t mean to offend.

“Black”: A good, Christian justification for the enslavement of another people.

Y’know, 'cause skin color wasn’t the O.G. perception of race - it was more a regional/cultural thing.

But Good and Evil: White and Black - ***those ***are some hella solid allusions by which to assuage the “Masters’” collective conscience of wrongdoing.

Stupid, base, and utterly useless concept, that.

I’d say outdated, but that’d imply it actually had a proper place in time.

@SangeYasha - No worries - s’all good. As much as it pains me to say this, people who think Ryu doesn’t look Japanese need to watch more anime.
