Wow just found this thread… I read it all from page one and learned some cool stuff.
Has anyone tried messing around with full screen hit confirming off of his air unibeam? It has good hit stun and His air dash takes him so far across the screen that it might be possible connect j. h or j.m into combo. I barely have been able to mess around with exploring this tech due to real life, but I was able to uni beam adf air grab, so just that alone opens up some great possibilities, but I haven’t tried to hit with a normal yet. If you don’t have enough time and they block it you could still hit them with j. H, d. H, j.s to keep them in block stun till the ground then apply high low mixups. Idk, any ideas on this?
What ways do you guys have for opening people up besides sj air dash down, down h? I’ve been having some luck with jS, air dash back, jM, jH as a triple overhead but it’s kinda hard to get the spacing right unless your back is to the corner.
If you have space I like to to super jump back, addf and let myself slide a bit from momentum before going for low, repulsar, or jump forward air throw. Keep in mind your goal is not to open people at up.
I’ve been having decent luck rushing down with Iron man, perhaps because a lot of people don’t seem to expect Iron Man trying to get in and aren’t really familiar with his rushdown options or how quickly he can get from full screen to melee range. Plus his normals stuff out a lot of people’s favored defensive options. What should the goal be with Iron Man though? Still kinda new to him.
Use your zoning tools (unibeam, repulsar, smartbombm cr.h, st.h j.H) to get out your assist (preferably drones or missiles) and depending on what character you are facing either use the assist to continue zoning or make your way in going for a fast high low while the assist is out before retreating and repeating the process. Iron Man’s biggest strength is probably holding ground, between add j.H, repulsar, and cr.m very little can intrude on your space without you having an answer for it. When someone comes at you with a gambit that challenges this, say mag with drones, try to stuff the assist call with unibeam, but if they get it out simply take to the skies and get out of there to reset positioning.
Always kill of repulsar. At max range cr.m you can’t combo into anything but st.h, unibeam without some weird assist setup that would be hard to confirm, however you can almost always level 3 off of unibeam and I would suggest doing so if it will kill, or the following cannon will kill.
The real goal though is to go back to the character select screen and find a better option, however if you can’t at least make sure he’s well supported!
Heh, I’ve tried finding a better option because my team has like zero synergy (Spidey, Iron Man, Vergil.) but I like having Iron man there just as an answer to people who like to fly in the opposite corner of the screen and spam stuff like Trish or Doom or against people who rely a lot on an air based game in general.
I like using repulsor since it beats all the photons but you should mostly try getting on the other side and use unibeam since doom has no horizontal projectile in the air.
I try to super jump and either:
[]unibeam (beats everything Doom has)
[]If i jumped early enough, I can hit him out of photon shot startup and bring him down for a conversion.
Else, if you are under him, I just use repulsar to counter the photons, (L photon instant spread) be ready to anticipate footdive.
I don’t like this option tbh… too susceptible to Photon Array super xx DHC… no real escape
Not really done with the game or the character. I’ve been playing it a lot casually I just don’t really get to go out to anything but majors or casual sessions lately. I’ve just been spending a lot of time figuring out stuff about Viper since she’s largely untapped as a character also. I’ve pretty much committed myself to maining Viper so I took a lot of time to just lab with her. I really need to up my Strider also, but after watching JRosa beat people with a completely worse Dark Strider with mine I probably just need to focus on keeping Viper and Doom alive any way. I just get into these really screwy situations in tournament where I forget Vajra is unsafe or I do a bnb starter that whiffs at a certain distance and then lose the match because of it.
I do play Iron Man on the side but I’m trying to figure out a good team for him. At first I thought Iron Man/Strange/Akuma would be good but I didn’t realize how unsafe Strange’s supers were. Probably just gonna do Iron Man/Doom/Akuma or Iron Man/Doom/Strider at this point just to keep working on him. He’s a fun character to use so might as well just use him on point and just make him work as a character. I’ll probably update this at some point once I get started working on him again.
Wow, yeah, my new main team is very similar to yours with point Dante and iron man second. Those two are crazy together! I use Felicia instead of sent on anchor. I still got some polishing up to do on my Dante, but yeah I would love to see some footage of your team.
I noticed in your match footage how if the heat gets too intense you sj then addf. I think this is one of the biggest tips for iron man players. Iron man dash isn’t really used like mags, nova, Dante, ect. For making opponents react to mixups. I think his dash is for the purpose of zoning or comming in behind cover from assists. It is good at making space for setting up his zoning game. I started using this method instead of trying to be a rusher and immediately became a better ironman player.
What is a “safe string” you can do with Iron Man if they block c.M or s.H so that you can not die? All his options seem equally shitty. Cancelling into flight on block is death. c.H is kind of slow. L Unibeam can be jumped over or punished in certain situations if the opponent doesn’t pushblock and hits you with a fast c.L. Smart Bombs is plus on block but can be advanced guarded.
i was going to drop ironman for morrigan but ironman and morrigan play so similar that some of there mix ups and set up are the same. i been trying to play ironman like doom or mags but after watching that morrigan guide video with her mobility and mixups. ironman can use some of her set up with is fly box dashes. i havent tested them yet but it gave me some ideas. weird learning morrigan might make my ironman better.
Perhaps this isn’t the right place to post this, but I just wanted a little bit of confirmation.
Whenever I get an Air Throw with Tony, my controls get reversed after the animation is over and I have a difficult time following up.
Damn, that’s bothersome. But that’s a bit of relief too; I don’t have to answer to the name “Choke Artist” anymore. I thought it was my own fault this whole time.
