Wouldn’t be surprised. Marvel is using Ironman to gain some momentum of GotG in the comics also. Since they aren’t a well known property, it’s smart business.
Remember how 99% of SRK who claim to Marvel fans had no idea who Nova (technically not a GotG member) and Rocket Raccoon were?
I agree. I don’t think he’ll be prominent in the movie - if he’s in it all. He’s more like the big name tie-in they’re using. In wrestling terms, Ironman is giving GotG a rub.
Then again, most of that hinges on Marvel casting an awesome Starlord.
I still want Jason Statham to voice Rocket Raccoon. That’d be soooooo money.
They already changed the whole thing. If you want to get into historical semantics with me, the origin of the word Mandarin is from the Sanskrit Mantri which is from India. Ben Kingsley is a half-Indian.
Edit: Jesuit missionaries started calling it Mandarin from its original name Guanhua. The entire etymology of the label “Mandarin” is western and fucked. And you guys get upset about a fictional character in a comic book still played at least by someone from ASIA.
Double-edit: So the backdrop of the film with Stark selling his shit to a fig leaf Al Qaeda organization which is now headed by some Chinese guy? That makes more sense?
The Mandarin was a shitty racist caricature with a fu manchu. Come on!
Honestly you people arguing semantics of the dude being asian
Indian is indian. Kinglsey is a great actor, but they could have casted chow Yun fat for an evil ancient chinese magician warlord
Honestly. Chow Yun Fat can play a good villain. He is huge in china, and he can do his own action scenes.
Just because kingsley is from the asian continent does not make him the same as being chinese
History and root word shit? Dude isn’t chinese, and with a plethora of great chinese actors who could play the role they chose an indian. It’s not as bad as last air bender with no chinese people at all in a kung fu movie.
But the mandarin should be chinese
Heck even pai mei from kill bill would have worked
I am going to watch regardless as im3 looks awesome.
I like to think that most turned down the idea being called the Mandarin. But frankly, I can see the Hollywood types just going for Kingsley because he was ‘not white’ and old enough to be a sort of ‘old grandmaster’ type that was the character’s original depiction until they aged him down within the last few years to be closer to Tony’s assumed age.
Posted this in the Avengers Thread earlier this morning. I snapped this screenshot from the “trailer”. I guess this confirms which Mark (model) number of the suit.
