People assume you have to be some hardcore comic nut for simply suggesting the comic stories are better and possible to translate on screen. If god of war got a movie adaptation but was made into a kid friendly pixar film I imagine you guys would be like"stop being such a GOW fanboy, the film was funny and my kids had a blast".
you are spouting and shit and having a constant temper tantrum you try and resolve by flagging posts
most comic book stories are ass. if it isn’t a one-shot graphic novel or limited series like Sandman there is almost zero chance the story is worth telling.
Plenty of excellent runs that deserve attention that could easily top anything we have seen from the movies. This really isn’t a argument…it’s just a dumb opinion on par with someone saying"yeah MK and SF are basically the same game". I have a feeling I’m getting trolled though so well played son…well played.
I would agree that there are some stories that could beat what has been produced. However, what Marvel has done is take pieces from a lot of different areas and try to put a different spin on them. Might not be the best way, but it works. Iron Man was probably the biggest shift away from the character base in this movie (Iron Patriot, Killian, Mandarin, etc). The twist really comes down to the fault of the trailers. It was marketed one way and the reality is such a large departure that it cuts deep. Sometime I wonder if Killian was played by person of Asian descent would that has made things a little more palletable.
^^ lol. I knew i wouldn’t have to look very far for a decent example for my point. Which is that whenever the subject of the Mandarin being played by a white actor and or his character being completely screwed over comes up, everyone is quick to rationalize it with EVERY dumb excuse under the sun!
Why? Because they desperately want to like this movie so much that they’re willing to forgive the flaw of Iron Man’s signature villain being portrayed/messed over sooooo badly.
And your claim basically that, “Meh nobody cared about character to begin with” is just another lame one that pile. You’re late to the party.
Imagine if they pulled this kinda crap with X-Men’s Magneto or the upcoming Avenger 2’s Thanos. Yup lets say “Thanos” is a flunky nobody acting as a decoy for the shape-shifting Skrull empire or something. Imagine how &$%^% that would be.
Doing this to the Mandarin character was a dick move. So stop lying to yourselves people…
Sorry dude. Turns out Thanos is just an “actor” to distract the Avengers to the REAL threat— of the shapeshifting Skrull empire integrating themselves in society and key positions.
But thats ok because nobody really cares about Thanos anyway, he was just a lame Darkseid rip-off afterall. Ammiright?
I’m also disappointed with how they handled Mandarin, but that’s not the main reason I didn’t like this movie. It just wasn’t a good film. It had none of the charm and wit of the first movie as well as none of the chemistry between the characters. It really felt like everyone was just phoning in their lines and I never felt a real connection with any of them. Even the second movie does a better job in this regard.
When they tacked on the kid, it made my skin crawl. It probably could have worked if it was executed better and the kid could actually act, but it was almost as painful as watching “little Annie” stink up the screen in Phantom Menace.
In fact everything felt tacked on from Tony Stark suddenly becoming an action hero taking out incredibly, hilariously inept bad guys with his “Home Alone” arsenal and gimmicks to his PTSD that’s suddenly and conveniently cured after talking to a little kid.
It did have it’s moments like every movie does and those moments saved it from being a truly bad movie, but this was a one hit wonder as far as I’m concerned unlike the first Ironman that I have seen multiple times and I have yet to get tired of it.
Only comic fans actually know who the Mandarin even is, let alone his status as Tony’s arch-nemesis.
FUCK what comic fans want. In these times, Iron Man is not defined by his relationship with the Mandarin, who is for all intents and purposes irrelevant in the current comics. He’s almost been relegated to Riddler status - Tony has had barely any interaction with him in the last 20-30 years real time.
I have no issue with the treatment of the Mandarin. He is a character of no great importance within the Marvel Universe, let alone of the current tales of Iron Man.
Answer me this: If Marvel cares so fucking little about the Mandarin in the comics, why should they bother with a carbon copy in the Cinematic Universe?
Mandarin would have been in IM1 if Marvel really cared that much about promoting the character.
Movie was okay. It’s not even close to Iron Man 1 which was absolutely amazing. What they did to the Mandarin was rofl, however that didn’t bother me all that much, as I’m not a huge IM comic fan. However the middle part of the movie was BORING, which almost resulted in me falling asleep at some points. I really wanted to see MORE Iron Man kicking ass, not half on IM, or seeing him for 2 seconds and then bam, its back to just Tony Stark.
I understand what Pepper becomes in the comic book, however it still made me shake my head when I saw what happened in the conclusion regardless because it didn’t feel right all. 98% of the time you’re helpless and then you go to Top-Tier mode was too much for me personally.
Overall, it was okay, not great, but not terrible either. I’ll be looking forward to the other Super Heroes and what they’ll bring to the table, especially Capt. America, my fave Avengers.
After further thought, I really didn’t like how Tony could remotely control the Iron Man suit; it took away any sense of danger/suspense knowing that he’s just chilling somewhere safe while the suit is doing the work.
Just saw the movie. Above average, but I felt like it was more a Tomy Clancy thriller with sci fi elements with Tony Stark than a proper IM movie.
Pros
Final Battle was great.
Pepper’s assist
Tonys ingenuity in Tennessee
The kid’s interaction with Tony
Cons
Mandarin twist. Im not knowledgeble about Mandarin but they should have kept Kingsley as the true Mandarin and had the rings. Also, like someone on the net mentioned, I was reminded of Riddler in Batman Forever when I saw Killian in the beginning.
Music was kinda generic
Too much humor. I know the general audience likes it, but Its beginning to grate on my nerves. From the Demon in a bottle hardcover I have and the late 80s issues Ive read, Tony isnt a full comedian. Maybe RDJ and Shane Black need to rein it in a little bit
Rhodey seemed wasted basically for 1/2 the movie.
As Arsenal noted, controlling the suit remotely takes away the tension a lot.
IM 2 gets flack for shoehorning Avengers setup and Vanko is a bit underdeveloped, but it feels more IM thsn this one.
