Spoken like someone who probably thought the RE movies were good or who never read a comic. There’s a reason people get upset when their favourite novel/comic gets butchered during the progress of adaptation and it’s cause the source material is always stronger. This is the same reason the X films and the new Spider-Man reboot were terrible…but meh lets just shit on the source material and make a "casual friendly"experience.
Spiderman was alright, X-3 was terrible. I don’t think they “shit” on the source. I will agree that it would have been nice to have “The Mandarin” as “The Mandarin”. Killian’s motive was a good way to furnish a villain. He was the anti-Stark Bioweapon (Man) vs. Machine. I think they should have done a better way to state who played out to be who. If it was fleshed out more thoroughly, it would have been a worthy ploy.
I stated from the start that the I thought the movie was enjoyable and functional as a standalone movie. However compared to extremis or any of the modern interpretations of mandarin I think it’s inferior.
The X films in general had spoilt continuity and a lot of the changes to characters and origins are terrible…looking at storm and deadpool.
i think its lame that marvel has yet to get into the more fantastical elements of their universe in the movies. theyve been trying to keep it grounded for so long by not including any of the more magical characters and abilities, which i think is laaaame, and once those batman movies started dropping, and people were feeling the new realism of the batman movies, marvel shifted their view yet again, even though those batman movies were trash except the second one, and thats only because the joker is always awesome.
if the mandarin was the comic mandarin, i think the movie woulda been at least two times more awesome, easily. they just think the audience will be like, wtf kung fu and chi, thats bullshit, fuck outta here, when no, movie goers are zombies, just make it good and they will eat that shit up.
marvel needs to “unground” itself from realism with their movies and lets get the fucking GOOD STUFF. dr strange shoulda been shining heavy as fuck by now. like marvel coulda shut shit down when it comes to comic movies and genres EASY, and they still have yet to do it.
and iron fist movie with a decent budget could be the martial arts flick of the decade, plus fan fare on that comic tip, EASY.
blade did its thing for when it came out even though part 3 was atrocious, and it did well before this pussification of vampires and shit now. if they were to reboot that again they could own the supernatural genre, vampire genre, and get errbody moist on that comic tip. the enemies blade has faced in the comic are beautiful for the big screen, and you can even put jubilee’s ass in a movie finally.
dr strange, need i say more. magic is awesome, use it on the silver screen. a series of dr strange movies could just take the supernatural genre by the balls easily, and hold on to them for decades. lol
the list goes on. the decision makers behind these marvel movies dont like money, and they damn sure dont like quality, because even within the same budget they have used for all their movies, if they just actually used a good solid arc from the comics, and stayed true to the characters in their classic forms, they wouldve made even more money then they did. i bet double what they made, easy, and you would actually have respect for quality shit.
yes i know its not just marvel behind all the decision making, as movies are purchased and what not by different companies.
i think nothing is worse for a manga/comic/book enthusiast, then to see source material just get butchered or not even used in a move for literally no good reason at all.
i mean for fucks sake, we’re getting another thor movie. who gives a fuck about thor, and the trailer isnt even hype. youre just kinda like, what, why, who is he fighting, who are these characters, who cares. lol
sometimes i wish i was younger and missed a lot of the marvel movies before like i dont know, 2007. lol. the only ones i would go back and watch are the first two blades, cause they were cool enough, but all that other shit is atrocious, and it wasnt until iron man that we started getting something decent enough from marvel.
This is true of most books or comics getting adapted though…this is the first time a lot of the broader audience gets exposure to these characters and the 1st impression is always the most important 1.
So be experimental in the Dr Strange movie, or maybe even Thor 2. Don’t fuck with Iron Man. Needing ten minutes of exposition as regards the rings and what they do and why they do is time that could be spent doing other cool things. I don’t feel like there was much wasted time in that already 2.5hr movie. Especially in number three in the series: changing the universe around at that part seems wonky.
what the fuck you are even talkin about, do you look at box office numbers?
IM1, 2 and 3 all made fat stacks of cash. Avengers had 1st biggest opening weekend of all time, Iron Man 2nd biggest, Avengers one of the top grossing movies worldwide. even adjusted for inflation it is one of the 30 highest grossing movies ever domestically. They have made a shit ton of money and reached a massive audience. way bigger than comic books have ever managed
if they catered to comic book nerds they would have made less money. way, way less. then you guys would just bitch about whichever version of the comic book character they are using and how they have Ultimate Nick Fury when Iron Man is more like marvel-616 or whatever the fuck then the world hasn’t collapsed so the X-Men are still in a parallel version of earth so maybe there will be a crisis crossover or something and everything will come together in another tentpole movie then the movie universe collapses trying to shovel in all the ludicrousness and soap opera-level drama of the comics
Its a simple fact that any product which designs itself for mass market appeal will do a lot better then if it were to focus on satisfying the core audience. We see this happening in gaming now and we see it happening with a lot of book adaptions too. However to say no one cares is baseless…people certainly cared when batman was returned to his more darker comic roots after the terrible “batman and robin"and"batman forever” movies. We will never know how successful a faithful adaptation of extremis would be because marvel doesn’t like taking chances and likes to play it safe…I can list over 10 comic plots that surpass anything the marvel movies have done but its unlikely we will ever see them cause marvel assumes the audience are fucktards who need to laugh at slapstick comedy every other minute.
uh, wtf are you rambling about. i didnt say they didnt make boat loads of cash. i was saying they dont like money because all the marvel movies couldve been EASILY better (which means more money as people come back 2-3 times just to see the movie. not just once and are like wow that was terrible), with only the iron man series and avengers that stand out as a good job the first go round, and in being better, they would make more money. they only sold well on their name, but no one was going to go see any of the original spiderman movies more then once because they were trash. lol.
if it was up to me, i would personally be seeking to make a movie whose experience is really fulfilled via the big screen, and is so good it makes people want to see it twice without a second thought. dont assume im some over board comic enthusiast, because im far from it, but i recognize shit ass movies when even the most basic of some comic arcs coulda been plopped in instead, staying true to the characters and abilities, and woulda been easily a movie 2-3 times better then most of the shit we have gotten from marvel.
