iPlayWinner Presents: Battle of the Bay - SUPER SFIV 5v5 Tournament - Sept 19th

yeah marks right, should have been an exhibition match for socal to play against the winning Bay area team for the 5v5 pot the day off if anything. but nothing much to say now. all is past now

Thanks for clearing the air man appreciate it

yeah mybad folks for comin sideways.

i just wanted to say that i thought heavily about not coming out to tournies after BotB. the reason being was the lack of time for practice/sessions, and myself not doing so hot at a few of the recent tournies (under larry’s and michael’s name too :P).

i thought i was going to let my team down at BotB and not hold up my weight on the team. so i felt, i was gonna come to botb, get my ass handed to me, see my team get last (2nd to last pre-209 bailout), and just give up.

but i came with a positive attitude and a confident team. and i’m honored to have been a part of north bay. the whole experience has re-lit that fire. and even if i dont’ get much practice, i’m gonna try to make it out to future tournies anyways

shoutouts:
-team captain hoodaman: calm as hell in every situation, and very motivational leader. there wasnt’ much of a role for team captain, but it felt like you took the role of a real captain
-doug: amazing fei. i am still so very impressed that you play this well with the lack of tourney showings that you have. despite landing jab xx ex cmd throw once out of 1000 tries, u still pull out the win.
-RJ : i love the jab frame traps and the awesome 707 victory pose.
-demonlos: my jaws dropped when u beat both vangief and magus. at first i wanted tyram on the team over you. but fuck that, you over tyram anyday.

-tyram: you are free. but thanks for coming out to support us! <3

-davis cats: its good to see you all again. plz dont’ call me a traitor =’(

-team socal: honestly (and no offense as well), after watching filipino champ versus gootecks, it felt like he threw the match with the whole sliding twice in a row into rose’s ultra(among another things). but that doesnt’ matter because you guys are beasts and deserved first anyways. it was an honor to play against you guys. great experience.
mike ross: giving a taste of my own medicine to win the last round .
combofiend:watching u play will always amaze me and make me believe in psychic powers.
gootecks: sick rose…i scared the most about getting matched up against you out of ur whole team.
keno, i hate rogs…and i hope i never have to play against a rog as skilled as you, shit would be painful for me.
warren: s.short, pause, DP. learned that shit from your K-ken back in the cvs2 days where there was no fadc. to everyone who hates me landing that setup, you can blame evil elvis. i stole it from him 6+ years ago.

to team iplaywinner: thank you for hosting, organizing, commentating, and eating the spinach dip over my joystick. i had to clean white shit off mike hawke’s stick. j/m j/m

to everyone else: thank you for being chill. i’m always glad to just be out there and talk about sf related stuff. the hype, the competition, and the friendly environment is what makes me keep playing street fighter.

regarding the 209 situation. i don’t think they need to pay anything. honestly i don’t know why haunts would put in his own money(tho definitely props to him for manning up to doing it). but i don’t see any problem with treating it as if it’s someone that said “hold me a spot” and then they couldn’t make it. you guys can talk about it all you want, but the majority of you guys already knew they were going to flake. i never even seen the 209team members in any tourney result before. and i’m pretty sure i seen good 209 players go to davis tournies, and those guys weren’t on the 209 team.

Penis. That is all.

?(???)

damnittttttttttttttttttttttttt

this shit just reaks of shady dealiings. how much money was on the line, give us a breakdown since it was just paid out. Shit is fresh, who got paid what. Put it out there already.

Fine. How much and when?

What did they get paid when they won?

Be specific, not vague.

A lot of those SoCal players came up like 2 weeks ago and supported our KS2 event; do you seriously expect them to come up here to play an exhibition match at a tournament where there isn’t a chunk of change involved? I don’t… and that’s just based on gas prices. It was posted earlier as well that SoCal put up money to balance kinda what was paid by Bay teams for quals money. Yeah the team was kinda unfair-- a few of SoCal’s best versus a divided NorCal, but it’s in the past. Plus how fucked up would it be if SoCal won and all the prize money went to you guys? Doesn’t make any sense. ON TOP of that, what if SoCal lost? They’d be driving back home empty handed… it’s not like they didn’t have to take a risk coming up here.

North Bay, you guys did good but SoCal won. If you have a problem with it take it out on those who rigged it, not on the organizers.

Mark, I believe it was stated at the event that Socal got 1000$. Someone can correct me if im wrong.

I don’t speak for the Northbay team, but I’m pretty sure none of us have a problem with the money or Socal winning. We are frustrated that someone from Norcal would throw a match and make it an even harder challenge for a Norcal team to win, but that’s another issue.

Well he seemed stuck on “we should be recognized for being #1 in the bay even though socal won” like he was going to use the prize money to make jackets or something. As for the scam, I’m just as disappointed in those players as the next guy.

This is a touchy one here. I myself am not sure about some things, especially that thrown match which was obvious to anyone with eyes in that room. I don’t wanna say any names because technically, I don’t have to. He is his home hype man…I mean according to him, he was the team…hmm…I didnt know team captains threw matches, I’ll keep that in mind for future reference

I have to agree with Mark on a few things. The fact that a really good So Cal team came up to the Battle Of The Bay event was cool. It was good to see some So Cal talent in the building, especially for me since I haven’t seen any of those guys play in person in a while. But i do believe even though it would’ve made them coming up here a little less rewarding that they should have just been an exhibition team for the winners of the Battle Of The Bay Winners to play for like a bonus pot or something.

The fact that they got to put a team together, didn’t hold qualifiers, aren’t from Nor Cal, and from what people keep saying…contributed almost nothing to the pot and still got to play in the “Battle Of Nor Cal” tournament kinda doesn’t add up.

If this tournament is called Battle Of The Bay, and is put together to see which region in Nor Cal is the best…well that was obvious. North Bay won the Battle Of The Bay, they played their asses off. they should have been rewarded for doing so since that was the original aim of the event. Last time i checked, the tournament was called “Battle Of The Bay” not “Battle Of The Bay…and surprise So Cal Team”. Why should they be able to come up and compete in the tournament designed to find the best region in the bay? I have absolutely nothing against the So Cal players, they’re all cool guys, but i definitely think there was a problem with that. But if North Bay is cool about all of it…I guess its in the past…its gonna leave a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths though, and i know I’m not gonna be the last one to say anything.

All in all, I give mad respect to Team North Bay. I said you guys were gonna upset folks from day 1 and you guys proved that on Sunday. This should teach people to never underestimate anyone, because the ones you count out could be the ones to surprise you.

But I would definitely like to leave shady dealings out of events like this, because this went from something really cool, to a potential shit storm on controversy

I dont know what u guys want me to say I AM ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MY TEAM if me losing / winning that match wont get me anything so whats the point of actually trying? Northbay lost on there own its not like they beat Socal
So me throwing/Not caring for that match is irrelevant.

Shoutouts

Fortunately I don’t care about my relevance in this “community”. I went to this event to see my friends from out of town. I’m not good enough to make my own regions team (who got last place). I’m admittedly irrelevant. I made a fucking joke on the live stream that day about my relevance as a matter of fact. I prefer to be irrelevant if this is how people act in this “community”.

What I do though, is call it how it is. Your pattern of unacceptable behavior throughout the time I have known you surprises me that people still like you. From continuous fixed matches to plotting to keep eric choi’s prize stick from WW2 - my god I’m ashamed of myself as a Davis/Sac promotion and events coordinator for letting you run shenanigans just because you can be friendly to me and funny.

It is disappointing because I already know the people you wronged are too much of push overs to say anything. They will take your half assed (and in all honesty quite offensive) apology for throwing away North Bay’s chance at winning for a few dollars. Some how personally I can’t take apologize with “LOL” in the same sentence seriously.

What’s the point in throwing away matches when you get money? lulz

I’m with a team with 2-3 as our record, Northbay had to fight against us, and we were the ONLY team to give them a loss, why did I even bother to try when I knew i couldn’t even get any part of the pot? We were 1-3 right before we fought Northbay. I’m gonna ask again, why the fuck would I have to try VS Northbay? Answer that Ryan, WHY? If you can’t figure that shit out, something is definitely wrong with you.

Andrew your my boy…but as of right now this shit is old news…

This is the 3rd day since BOB and whats done is done…if you wanna do ANYTHING about it…We gotta step our game up and keep shit from happening… honestly this is the only way ANYTHING will change.

No point in draggin out this whole thing more than it already has

So lets fuckin get to work…and at the next Major event GO FUCKIN HARD OR GO HOME!

(???)

all i know is east bay team went 3 wins-2 losses. Northbay was the only other team to have the same record. I want this resolved. And yes this time i will be sober.

P.S dont be mad because ryan is smarter than all you guys at making money. Dont hate, appreciate.

P.S.S the reason why i want to settle the match is we still havent figured which area is the best in the bay. technically north bay and east bay are tied at 2nd. c

Sikwidit brings up a good point. What occurred this past weekend was unfortunate indeed, but it has been done. No point in crying over spilled milk.

This reminds me of when Shizza was first under possible ban from events because (allegedly) he used turbo feature on his pad. However, none of the events he attended explicitly spelled out the turbo feature ban. So although frowned upon, there was no official rules in place that he was breaking.

This is unfortunate but this seems to be a similar case with what occurred at BoB. There was no explicit rules about questionable behavior and the resulting punishment. Even though we may not agree with the action, we can not punish someone for breaking a law that doesn’t exist.

So energy should be focused on how to amend rules to avoid/punish this kind of behavior in the future. EVO rules have evolved over the years to address things like this. Perhaps we should all come up with and use standard tournament rule verbiage that specifically addresses this. A thread has been created exactly for this purpose: http://shoryuken.com/f23/should-we-reevaluate-tournament-prize-structure-251759/index3.html so let’s focus our efforts there.

The BoB event has concluded and this thread is now closed.
