IPL getting capcom games?

I have to cuss for them to understand, so we speak the same language.

I find your opinion on our opinions holds no barring to the argument at hand and ignorant.

I think you lost your funny in some other SRK thread.

the point about yipes is pretty important

hes generally considered one of the best/most hype commentators for marvel 3

HE HAS CLEANED UP HIS ACT MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE

and hes sponsored. if yipes himself can go hollywood and still remain relevant, and the best at what he does, then i dont see what everyone is up in arms about

Kinda funny how you’ll lash out at some one that just says one sentence.

“My opinion is superior over your opinion”

lol okay sorry for lashing out at you.

I would gladly argue with people who are putting up sufficient arguments about IPL. However, I cannot say that “censorship” and changing thier tournament so they don’t clash with Final Round, but having happened in the first place is bad are good arguments. Then people are saying players are “selling their soul”.

I’m sorry, but if my friend or someone I knew got to play video games and make a substantial amount of money from it, I would be happy for them. I think it’s distateful for this community to think people are “selling” their soul for money when they go to more grassroots tournaments than anyone else and still don’t really break even. It’s honestly unfair to hold that against them.

I saw a tweet the other day or so, where Justin Wong said he wont be going to NEC 13, which I thought was fine because it was his choice and he could’ve got flown out by IPL (who flew out Dieminion, who won SFIVAE and placed top in Marvel)…but then Jebailey tweeted “Justin is too eSports”. Like what kind of respect is that? Even if it’s a joke, most of this community just comes off as jealous, that’s just how I see it.

I think IPL will go horrible if the community is not hired to run this in one way or another, but knowing how David Ting handles IPL, I HIGHLY doubt that’s going to happen. As soon as I let him know of Final Round conflicting, less than 24 hours they said they would not run Fighting Games on that weekend. I’m not sure what else this community wants from them, to be frank. They are helping the community, in my eyes and Grassroots will still go on anyway, so why are these people so up in arms?

Any fighting game players living by themselves and maintaining their lifestyle with only tourney winnings?

No?

Alright, nothing to see here.

How would they from Grassroots tournaments? lol

AxLegitxLegend must be a moronic troll.

The idea that an individual can make a living of video games is absurd in itself, because what’s in today, isn’t whats in tomorrow. Aside from the constant force of change that is unpredictable, the idea of living of video games for the foreseeable future implies so much stupidity and ignorance to the reality of the situation. Its cute that people who want to spend their best years sitting on a couch and playing video games for money, shining example of our glorious economic system.

I can only imagine 7-10 years from now when these people actually get real lives because they no longer can compete at a top level, are no longer relevant, or have real priorities to deal with. Shit would be funny as fuck, all the tears and self-hatred.

stay free

Quit being condescending prick and people will take your argument more seriously till then you’re a child.
If you want to see why people are up in arms over eSports look at WCG 2005, EVO/MLG 2005, CGS 2007.

You guys do know that after competing in video games they can get a job from the industry themselves. Happens alot. As usual lots of pessimism and cynicism from SRK.

Yeah except one thing. None of those are IPL, and none of those were backed by Capcom, the developer. Also none of them wanted to work with the grassroots scene. Also CGS was ALWAYS horrible, everyone agrees. That’s not just a FGC thing lol.

There is no proof that IPL is different then those other organizations when it comes to fighters, just one tournament being cancelled isn’t enough. Also being backed by Capcom is nothing. Those DoA tournaments were backed by Tecmo look at how much shady business was done to the point it still haunts that scene to this day.

If you mean the CGS tournaments, that was a big mess on it’s own scale. There are a ton of reasons why that failed. None of them have anything to do with IPL’s model. Why are people so quick to say esports is different from these FGC tournaments that are bad. You have PLENTY of tournaments in the FGC that are not good and don’t have the scene a good look. You can’t say “oh eSports is suppose to be better” then also be mad when they are trying to be professional. Maybe you should ask David Ting via his twitter or IPL feedback about your concerns so he can answer them for you. Because unlike all of those you listed, they talk with the players.

What’s IPL’s model exactly? Where’s the money coming from to supply the payouts for the fighting game events?

Hate to break it to you guys but eSports has the same issues as everyone else when running a tournament. When I was at IPL, the internet connections dropped a few times, but they got it back up. It doesn’t mean IPL is bad, it’s just hard to run a tournament on that scale just as it is for anyone else. If you’re going to be that picky, then no one is really going to live up to your standards.

eSports will greatly help the community because it’s more events along with more money and more sponsors.

I’m sure it’s all feeding into IGN and whatnot. Unlike most fighting game events, eSports can actually get people to bankroll the event. Fighting game events normally shell out of their own pockets for majority of everything where they actually go in the hole after each event.

Speaking on that, I don’t think it’s due to fighting games with not getting sponsors to flip the bills. I think it’s the TO’s and their lack of ability to get up to the point of someone else flipping those bills.

Good questions. I am going to “assume” here that with Capcom as the sponsor, the money will be coming from them and IPL’s sponsors. I think they spend millions of dollars on each IPL, which is granted to them from IGN. I forget, David Ting was explaining it in an interview. IGN obviously has a big name behind it, because it’s the world’s biggest gaming website for news and such.

David Ting’s model for Fighting Game tournaments is to suppose the grassroots scene, and not much info has been released aside from that. They don’t want to step on the toes of the FGC tournaments, the big one’s at least, and want to help build it up and be apart of them. If you are worried about IPL not being able to pay the players, then that’s pretty funny lol. If the stream numbers and attendance lives up to what they think it can, after they build it of course, then it should do fine. Take a look at Shootmania, it’s IPL’s PC Shooter, it’s doing pretty awful and they still support it with considerable money and it’s backed by Ubisoft as well. I think IPL has a lot of connections with developers because it’s through IGN that many other TO’s do not have.

It’s experience too. FGC does not have many experienced heads in the areas of the game industry as a whole, especially areas like marketing etc. Someone really needs to get that stepped up because even a few thousand fighting game consumers should attract some decent money. I think people just shooting too high for the biggest sponsors in gaming and spitting it out like there is no money in grassroots events.
