Lawl, I guess someone accidentially put up an announcement video on their facebook page. What do you think? Fake or no?
real. The games are SF4 and SFxTekken. Video’s private now though https://twitter.com/fchampryan/status/273723180781293569
meh.
Yo eSports. I believe it. Capcom would be silly to not get in on the action … and IPL already hosted SFxT at SXSW earlier this year.
Gootecks getting his fight money.
Finally Power Stone is getting the recognition it deserves…
Fixt.
They’ll find a way to fuck it up. They always do.
IPL is probably the best esports organization. They will probably hold qualifiers online, so people are going to complain about that. It’s the only thing that makes their model viable though.
I’m in there!
The next time something hype happens on stream and I type OOOOOOHHHHHH in chat some nazi starcraft 2 mod will ban me because in the world of E-SPORTS a few words in caps is automatically considered evil, even though people yell obscenities to the opposing team in REAL SPORTS stadium
But worst thing will be the 10 to 20 mins downtime between matches, which is the norm for E-SPORTS stream. People will then realize how awesome regular FGC streams are. For me, true professionalism = back to back matches with low downtime, which is the norm for FGC streams.
Now IPL means something, lol? Capcom’s games still suck.
I just don’t think most e-sports people don’t understand how truly different the cultures are between different video game types. They want things to be clean and orderly like in Golf in order to look “professional”, when the reality is that the FGC is more akin to UFC or Football. Lots of excitement in a short amount of time, and where being bravado and cheering loudly for or against someone is the norm.
As far as the 10 to 20 minutes between matches, they gotta spend time to put up advertisements to make money, or talk about the matches. This is somewhat ideal, since so much happens in a fighting game match in such a short amount of time, that it’s nice to be able to break down the important moments in a match to show the viewers the key points that contributed to the win or loss that isn’t so apparent to casual viewers.
IPL5 is a 4-day event, and I can’t imagine that changing in the future. This isn’t SC2 or LoL where a Bo3 can take 2 hours. An open-reg pools + bracket would be cake to run with that much time available.
If they want to do that, the trick is to have actual content between matches, rather than awkward interviews and stuttering commentators trying to kill time. Fill up enough time to let the next match button check, and keep it moving.
This is true. This would require that the commentators actively go back to key moments in the match, slow it down, and highlight specific points they want to take. This takes some pretty special bits of tech, some very organized and quick-thinking commentators, alongside pre-made content produced by the broadcasters ahead of time.
Bad interviews are almost universally the fault and responsibility of the interviewer. So having charismatic interviewers who know how to make a seemingly awkward and boring person interesting is part of the job by asking engaging questions and bringing a high level of enthusiasm to his/her job.
Jedirobb, who does (did?) Devastation in the past is a part of IPL so it’s not like they’re clueless about fighting game tourneys.
IGN sucks and I don’t like watching or playing either of those games but good for those communities… maybe.
Doesn’t IPL normally do invitationals?
They have said that if they were to carry fighting games they would let the people in the FGC run the show while they’ll provide the investments. I do hope people give them a chance and not write them off because of the idiots at MLG, they seem to know what they are doing.
I’ll care only if tekken is in the lineup.
From what I’ve heard, IPL is probably a better place for fighters than MLG. Off course, I’ll have to disclaim that I’ve only heard from some IGN guys and not from Arturo or anyone on the FG side of MLG.
