It’s pretty much impossible for anyone to do a worse job than MLG, save the really shady guys like Planet Zero or TL. The only question now is whether or not IPL is much better or barely better than MLG, whether they have the balls to open their minds and adapt their format.
Well, if they don’t have the retarded continuation rule, they’re already a tier ahead of MLG.

I loled at this post (on this same topic) from FSD.
So it’s official: http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/11/30/ign-news-capcoms-street-fighter-coming-exclusively-to-ipl-2013
Maybe now fighting games can approach the vicinity of mainstream relevance.
GAAAAHHD DAMN. Is Capcom late to EVERY party?! They’re last to do everything but still manage to be the biggest deal, ever.
I’m surprised this thread isn’t on fire, you’d think a development like this would stir up some debate.
There’s nothing notable besides Capcom finally arriving to the eSports party.
At the end of the day though it’s just folks playing for money… in a corporate environment.
Top sponsored players have a chance to get more money.
Stream monsters have more cheerleading material.
Everyone else who actually plays these games is grinding shit out and probably don’t care too much about this.
This is shitty. Almost litany levels but w/e.
It’s great that fighting games, good ones, are becoming more mainstream in the e-sports arena, but I’m going to hold my breath to see how it turns out. It hasn’t been the first time an e-sports organization has attempted to draw on the fighting game crowd, and they’ve failed pretty miserably so far.
For the sake of exposure and growth of the community, it’s great. Is it relevant to the average player who actually attends tournaments and isn’t just an online warrior or stream monster? Nope. Fighting game scene has always been, and should always be, a grass-roots affair, and people shouldn’t be playing fighting games for the sake of trying to get that e-sports paypuh.
Well I knew this was coming for a while. Cool that it’s announced now, now the top FGC players can make better money, since the money they were making was alright, but never justified the level of play they put on for their community. That’s just my opinion. Also production will be better and David Ting always responds to the community, so if any of you bitch at him (and I’m sure you will, based off this thread) he’ll respond with a response and ask you for more feedback to help make IPL better. That’s why it’s not on EVO, and I’m sure he’ll make sure it doesn’t conflict with big FGC events.
Who gives a shit if fighting games are mainstream
Shut up and play the fuckin game
Personally, I like what I’ve been seeing so far in how IPL’s been approaching fighting games. They’ve been taking a slow approach, starting with just helping promote games and not simply getting a few games and shoving themselves down our throats. That, and they’re smart enough not to schedule conflicting shizz (IPL 5 was supposed to have a DOA invitational, but they cancelled it when they realized NEC was on the same weekend).
Really liking the statement made in the exhibition chat that community events will be used as qualifiers.
So… people are actually required to pay to watch other people play a video game?
And there are actual, real people who are willing to pay to watch other people play a video game?
I blame Live, and the current state of U.S. secondary education.
It’s really not that big of a deal unless you’re a sponsored player or mostly/entirely spectate.
Complaining about $260 for getting 7th. LOL. Is there anyone who likes Wolfkrone as a person?
It depends on how you approach it. On one hand, it’s “not top three,” so QQ and do better … on the other hand it’s top freakin’ eight at Evo. If 2000 people entered, Top 8 puts you in the 99.6th percentile and yet, from strictly dat eSports paypah standpoint, you’re still at a net loss for the weekend.
To put it in perspective, it 'Krone got top 8 in SC2 at MLG he’d walk away with slightly less than 10x the money.
I guess it just depends on your priorities.
