I picked up GTA Chinatown Wars ($7), Mr. Driller($1), Angry Birds($1), and Voltron($1). Here goes my quick insight into each…
Chinatown Wars is amazing. I knew it would be after reading about how good the DS and PSP versions were but I knew a sale for it would come (just not this soon). The people look a little funny but other than that the graphics look good. Touch controls but not shock there. I think that what I like most about it is that it’s better looking and cheaper than the DS version. You still get all the touch gimmicks but without the stylus hassle. I’m only up to getting my apartment.
Mr. Driller is Mr. Driller. I’ve never owned a Mr. Driller game till now so the game has a sort of mysterious quality about it since the most I’ve ever played was on one of those table-like arcade machines. I tried swipe gestures at first but I’m not sure if I like it. There is also a virtual-d-pad and accelerometer control so I’ll try those next. But it’s pretty and ran fine.
Angry Birds is amazing. The sound and art direction are great. I mean all it is slingshot-ing angry birds (why they can’t fly I do not know) at towers haphazardly built by egg stealing pigs. You destroy the tower and let the crumbling debris take care of the pigs. I’m only up to the fifth stage but there seems to be three sets of 20 levels. Don’t quote me on that though. The game’s sound effects are just sooo great to me. I’d watch a cartoon of this after seeing the
So that leaves Voltron. I actually haven’t played it yet but I mainly paid for the unpause sound byte. Coolest fucking thing since Battletoads pause screen beat.
EDIT: So I played Voltron. It’s decent. Not a very exciting game, at least running around as a Lion but it’s cute. Worth a $1 or $2.
So go on guys! Gets to downloading!!! (But don’t bite off more than you can chew. I ran out of space and my phone was just about useless so I had to wait to get home from work to jack my phone in and remove some music and unplayed games (or finished demos) to make room for my purchases.
EDIT: Broken Sword is also on sale this weekend for $5. Must get that somehow. GAAAAAH!
An iPhone port of FF6 with redrawn graphics (either 2D Mario and Luigi style or 3D that’s around the quality of the FF4 DS models) would make me man-moist. Yes homo.
NINJA EDIT - Balls. It’s FF1 and FF2. With on-screen d-pads instead of true touch controls. Said it before, saying it again: fuck Square-Enix.
Dr. B : Mad Sexy :: HU-MANS : ANNIHILATED BY OUR ANTI-B POWERS
Ace Combat Xi had two other updates, including the 1.00 special Air Combat Challenge, which is meant to take you about a good 20-30 minutes to finish on easy difficulty.
I just got an iPod Touch and I’m pretty hyped for it. The fact that all of the commands will remain the same worries me though, charge ultras are gonna be a bitch.
Downloaded SF4 today. Gotta to say, I’m pretty impressed. My biggest gripe with iPhone games has always been the controls. I couldn’t play my beloved Duke Nukem because they were so bad. With a fighting game’s requirements for precise controls (and my stalwart hatred of any game with bad controls), I didn’t think SF4 would work on the iPhone. I was wrong. They’ve done a great job at making executing moves and combos relatively precise. Its certainly no stick (or pad for that matter) but I really think this is the best that could have been done considering the iPhone’s limitations.
Graphics are great. Truly, they’re excellent and there isn’t much else I can say.
Decent amount of characters to choose from as well as many games modes. You can train, play a time attack variant, regular solo vs the comp and, thankfully, there’s multiplayer over Bluetooth.
This isn’t SF4 like on the consoles but its a damn good substitute for when you’re on the go. I, for one, will no longer be bored on the subway.
Yeah, SF4 turned out to be pretty good. Although I noticed that it uses 2D sprites created from the 3D graphics of the original game. Which I thought was kinda funny-- now SF4 is a truly 2D game. Regardless of that, its a lot funner then I thought it would be. The controls are good enough. I can’t wait to try the versus mode with someone now…
Yes, they did a fantastic job porting SF4 to the iPhone. And the best news is, they’ve already confirmed DLC in the form of added characters (Akuma anyway)! Hopefully they’ll take this seriously and start doing regular updates!
I’m really hoping against hope that Konami decides to make a Castlevania game for the iPhone, but also that it’ll be better than Silent Hill The Escape. Way to turn SH into a lame FPS. :-\
Zenonia 2 (the sequel to my favourite Iphone game of 2009) came out last week. It would be an amazing game if it wasn’t for all the bugs.
Now I finished the game but I’m stuck in a cloud city because town portals don’t work post-finishing the game, it’s the only way out of the city, my scrolls take me right back there. Sucks.
