I’ll accept half of that. She DOES look OP, and I won’t argue that she doesn’t…though your opinion went from “almost balanced” to “OMG BROKEN” after one combo video, which is why I questioned it.
That last sentence, no. I don’t accept “different” as an excuse for banning (i.e. Algol, Hilde, and Star Wars in SC4). Fuck, Twelve and Oni have air-dashes in SF games and they SUCK. Dizzy gets two air dashes and she SUCKS. Cody has a weapon he picks up and does chip on normals with it and…well, he’s mid-ish tier or lower, but you get the idea.
Comparing a group of characters who are naturally in the game and clearly have weaknesses to a character designed to exclusively be used as a boss and added as a selectable character as an afterthought is a dangerous game.
Alright, let’s review, because we’re all in the same choir here and arguing because who the fuck knows.
Long and the short of it is, Travis brought up how the Justice and Kliff were “borderline balanced already”. I remember people complaining about Justice once upon a time, but I figured since he knows more than I do maybe this changed. Then, within a week, Travis posts said combo video and says “Justice is broken”. I reacted the way I always do when someone posts a combo video and says something is broken, which is “no”. I assumed he was making this judgment based off the video and offered up my normal retort. He then says she’s OP (which, yeah, she does look a bit busted) and that she does things beyond “the rules the engine was meant to enforce”. The first part, yeah, I’ll allow, but we’ve all learned over time that WHAT THE DESIGNERS DO MEANS PRECIOUS LITTLE TO METAGAME DEVELOPMENT. Honestly. I’m sure no one at Capcom knew about Valle CCs when they made Alpha 2, nor that they actually helped balance the game in their own retarded ways. And crouch-cancel infinites in Alpha 3 helped lower tier characters but were definitely NOT something planned for the engine to allow.
Now then. Justice is a bullshit character selectable because you can, much like the bullshit characters in 2k2UM. Understood. That said, the Tekken series has let a few boss characters be selectable, and some without any adjustments. I’m sure there are other examples, with and without balance tweaks. We all know this. The standard, however, is that most boss/extra characters ARE bullshit and need to be accepted with a grain of salt, as Murph pointed out.
We all saying the same thing, then? Good. Because I don’t want two pages of this followed by one of us being a complete dick. Rather just focus on playing shit and getting better instead of everyone arguing the same thing because the fucking internet is why.
I’ve thought Justice was fundamentally broken, but heard she had been re balanced in AC+. Even on dustloop the reasoning for the ban seemed to be “They’re not in arcades.” So Travis probably isn’t the only one who’s echoed this statement.
Simple misconception I guess. I had never picked up a copy of AC+. The only time I’ve even messed around with the character was on my friend’s wii for a bit, but I’m sure it takes a bit of exploring to see her potential. Pretty much waiting for Japan to softban at this point.
Word Bill. Pot is so fun, and he is definitely a true troll character! If you are at the cedar rapid tourney this weekend we gots to bullshit and maybe grab a beer if we have a chance!
Anyone in Iowa City playing Marvel these days? I’m coming out there for a few months pretty soon so I figured I’d see what’s going on. Maybe some people playing casuals at the University? I’m not a student but I’m nearby. I read a few pages back and gather that there’s a monthly (or weekly?) going on in Hiawatha that I might be down to try to show up for too. What’s the schedule?
Cool, North Liberty isn’t far so I’d go for that. Like I mentioned in the other post, I mostly play Marvel and I’m planning on playing SFxT, but I’m somewhat interested in learning KoF too.
well come step into my office. yeah we play some marvel mostly kof over here in West Liberty. Me and Quadcore for west liberty (we pretty much play anything) for iowa city players you have Kemps (SSFIV and KoF) and Joystick Junkie (down for any game). I think Quadcore is going to hold casuals for for quite a bit for anyone who is interested.
