That’s what I meant by “moved.” They all moved to Des Moines.

We (Dubuque) are closer to you than Des Moines. :stuck_out_tongue: Gotta be some Iowa City area players, too. Isn’t Latino Link from the area?

lol, Iowa’s doin’ all right, actually, we’re just a little sectored out, that’s all.

You posted this during a Des Moines tournament. Should’ve showed up!

He just got back into Iowa from Cali, I’m sure he didn’t know about it, lol.

Everyone is getting better. Need to stop wasting my time with Persona 3 and practice more WINDJAMMERS!

Hello all my name is Damien and I currently reside in Storm Lake IA. I mainly play SSF4 with a small of group of offline friends and of course online. Basically I’m wandering where the fight scene is in Iowa and if we have any meetups or tourneys or anything like that.

There is 3 of us in West Liberty, Its about a hour out from Cedar Rapids.

I live about 30 minutes away in Sac City. Would love to get some time in with you, since I’ve had literally no luck finding anybody here.

From what I can gather, the big chunk of the scene’s in Des Moines, Dubuque, and Cedar Rapids.

For all the new guys coming in, here’s a general rundown of who’s where and what you can expect to play.

Des Moines: Myself, TopHat (Evilzangief on here), Murphagator, Blank Mauser, Ngamer3k, Joker, Grog, Emotuba, and quite a few others scattered out around central Iowa. (Dracula-X is in prairie City, etc.)

Most of this year we have focused on KoF13, however Ngamer is a SF4 specialist, I specialize in arc sys games (i’ll be spending the vast majority of my time on P4u and GGXX-ACR soon) but I also play a lot of KoF13 and will play GOOD capcom games too, Joker is a marvel specialist. Murph is both good at and will play about anything, but focuses on KoF, Grog is an ST specialist but will also play anything, TopHat will do anything you want as long as you let him drown you in terrible puns and dead horse beaten jokes. Emotuba is kind of returning after a hiatus and has been playing KoF of late, but he’s an accomplished SF4 player as well.

If you want to play Marvel or KoF in Des Moines you’ll have no problem finding comp. P4U is looking to have a lot of players as well. SF4 has lost quite a bit of steam here, but Ngamer is constantly looking for a challenge and is a very sound player.

Cedar Rapids - Xiang and crew are first and foremost 3D players. Some of them dabble in Marvel and SF4, but the main games to expect out there are SCV and MK9. Most likely TTT2 once it drops as well (feel free to correct on this one guys, i’m just going based off last time we talked a tourney).

West Liberty - Quadcore, Latino Link, and Kemps Have dabbled in just about everything. I know they play a ton of games together including most of the major ones. So you’ll have lots of diversity with a good crew of players.

Dubuque - Hogosha and everyone up there play anything and everything. They’ve been doing Marvel gatherings and small tourneys at Comic world for a long time now, and often run another game when there is time. You can almost certainly find someone who will be happy to play one of the major 2D games up there, along with plenty of 3D and everything inbetween. DBQ is a group that’s been around a long time.

Hopefully that gives all the new blood popping in (a hearty welcome to you all by the way), a bit of an idea what to expect in the various parts of Iowa. Keep doing what you’ve been doing, let us know where you’re at, what games you play, and hopefully we can find times to get casuals going. Anytime there is an Iowa tourney we will post up info in here at some point, so keep checking up on the thread.

Hopefully everyone finds a scene to blend into and get some good games in!

Sounds about right to me.

My focus has personally shifted to SFIV and Blazblue, since I like both games and netplay works pretty well in both games, especially Blazblue. I was practicing Marvel for a while, but the crappy online makes it hard to play with other people. It also doesn’t help that I don’t have time to play so many of these games, so trimming my focus down to just a few will probably help me out more in the long run anyway.

That being said, though, I’ll definitely be getting in on P4A as well. I’m a big fan of Persona 4 to begin with and my experience with ASW games I’ve played has been a pretty fun one.

BBCS:EX is a really good. It’s unfortunately a really dead game in this country. P4U is definitely going to be filling a void in the ASW game world for the states, I’ve got a lot planned for P4 both in game, and for teaching/advice/etc. Most of the Des Moines crew has expressed some interest in it, so there will at least be a few of us putting some time into it.

Yeah, it’s a pretty lost cause as far as BB is concerned, but I like the game enough to keep playing it anyway.

As for P4A, I’ve been spending a lot of time learning what I can about the game. Getting it day one and hopefully I don’t get left behind like in every other fighting game I’ve played so far. It’s what happens when you don’t start taking the genre seriously until 2011.

Also, Klaige, I’ve seen your posts here and on Dustloop about getting the ASW scene rolling again. Really appreciate the effort you’ve been putting into the games and into helping to grow the community. Hopefully I’ll eventually find a reliable source of transportation in this state and be able to find a good way to get involved myself. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is the part where the guy from somewhere else in the Midwest enters your thread in order to promote an upcoming tournament far, far away.
Still, worth a shot.
