Online in SFIV is bearable, but not necessarily good. I take what I get, though.
Online is cool, don’t get me wrong. That’s pretty much how I became good at the game. Even just online sessions with Iowa players helped me a lot. Just wish I had that one training partner or something like that.
Iowa does have a decent community even if it’s a bit spread out. I just wish more than 2 games were popular. We had a decent turnout for SC5 at first…I don’t know what the hell happened there.
I just don’t want to play games where it’s more than 1v1. Maybe everyone should pick up Injustice! Lol…right…
I’m pretty sure the Soul Calibur 5 community at large is wonder what the hell happened. 
There’s always Street Fighter 4. Persona 4 is right around the corner as well.
The SC5 patch happened, thats what killed that game.
Well to be fair. At one point marvel had over 20 entrants a few times. It’s been declining ever since. That’s how Iowa is. Interest generally fades to a noticeable degree in not such a long period of time.
I would have played SF4 if it actually had people playing. I’m totally down for a game with footsies. It also doesn’t help that there are 10 different fighters to play floating around out there right now.
There’s got to be something coming out that at least 50% of the FGC can rally around.
In Iowa that’s pretty unlikely. I can guarantee you if you pick up kof you’ll get a lot of good comp, though, as everyone playing it has gotten pretty good.
Yeah I know…but the issue is I HATE the style of the game. It seems premodern and uninspired to me and on a superficial level, the graphics are terrible. Not trying to offend anyone just explaining myself.
I hear you, while I’m not quite sure why you’d see the stuff as premodern I couldn’t play mk9 for pretty much the exact same reason (graphical stuff).
Truth be told, after a short amount of time, I don’t even notice much about how a game looks except for the more extreme examples. Which is good, because most games out there have something about them that I absolutely abhor.
- MK9 looks dumb as hell but I don’t notice during gameplay…though, playing through story right now, every last bit of it looks ridiculous, and the XRays (which you don’t see at high level thanks to breakers) make about as much sense as a female Tea Party member.
- SF4 and SFxT (and, to a much lesser extent, MVC3) are probably the biggest offenders for people who just see stills and cinematics, but in motion I REALLY don’t notice. I’m too busy trying to play footsie.
- With KOF13, I love women and Mai and boobs and all, but there’s a point where it just looks stupid. Mai’s neutral stance is that point, but you don’t see it aside from “Round X” or “KO” screen. On the plus side, the backgrounds are awesome, and so awesome that I can’t help but stare at them, even mid-fight. Oh, and a lot of the flame effects look horrible. Not KOF12 horrible, but still pretty bad. King’s NM, however…good god. All that aside, probably my second favorite fighter (top is and always will be Third Strike).
- I think Tekken and VF are the only two that look worse mid-fight than they do pre-fight, and that’s only because of the nature of juggles. And, again, I barely notice because I’m preoccupied with the fight.
- Tech Romancer is probably my third favorite fighter right now and easily my favorite Dreamcast game, and GOD that game looks horrible. And I don’t give a good flying poop.
- AH3 and Skullgirls and most anything with an airdash, even with these I can look beyond some of the worst aspects (fanservice in ways I get seriously uncomfortable with) because I just really, really, really want to play.
- Avatar Fighter Online. The game uses XBL avatars. Enough said with that, and yet I love the game.
In the end, try not to care what the game looks like…doing so may very well prevent you from finding something you love.
