Iowa: Maize of Defeat

You’re def in the right place, I’m pretty much retired but nothing happens weekly per se. Just check this thread or go to the iowa IRC channel and people announce when they host stuff.

If you mean a facebook group page, we have one of those too.

Are there any players around the Quad-Cities area? I’m seeing many posts about Iowa City/Des Moines/Cedar Rapids but none about the QC. Surely I can’t be the only one here who plays fighting games.

I’m not sure if there’s anyone in the QC, but there are some people around there. Maybe they hang out in the Illinois or Missouri threads? lol idk

I’ll try persona 4 but it’s not as hype for me as gear is. Besides all i’ve been playing in the last week is Hard Corps: Uprising. Modern contra-ish game is great

I too am new to the central iowa area and looking for some casuals so I can level up. I prefer 3d fighting games and am really enjoying the latest Virtua Fighter release. @Blank Mauser does the facebook group you reference play either Soul Calibur or Virtua Fighter? @Dracula_X, I noticed you mod sticks and I am interested in getting my ps3 madcatz stick to work with both systems, would you be willing to assist and how much?

I think me and Name are the only SC players in Iowa. I’m guessing you’re in the Des Moines area, but I’m always up for matches online, if you want.

Also, Holy new player explosion, Batman.

Yeah, I’ve lurked for a while but never really contributed. I’m relatively new to the fighting game genre and watching this year’s Evo really made me want to participate more. Playing online is fun and all, but I would really like to get involved in any local communities.

There’s really no comparison to online and offline. Offline is so much more hype.

I agree completely. The whole tournament atmosphere really appeals to me in a pretty big way. Hence, my need to find people nearby to get involved.

Yeah, the QC might be a bit rough, but hey, you’re only a stone’s throw away from Chicago, lol.

I’d love to get in some matches online, but at the moment my internet is too slow to play online. I intend to upgrade but that is going to have to wait for a month as I’ll be in East Africa for a month. Do you play on psn? Do you play Virtua Fighter 5 FS?

Yeah, I play on PSN. I do not play VF, although it definitely looks fun. I played a little VF4: Evo, but the amount of time I would need to put in to the game to feel competent at it would suck all of my time. :frowning:

In any case, if you get your Internet situation figured out or happen to be around CR, I can certainly get some games in with ya.

Btw new peeps have to put in a total 50 hours between Gear and ST.

The closest people to Davenport are me, Latino Link, and Kemps. We are about 40 minutes away from Davenport in West Liberty, so we are not that close.

Yeah i can do that. Hard to say the price though, send me a message on here and we’ll work something out.

^This. Keep in mind that requires you playing gear too.

Haha… Nope. I’ve been sticking around the forums, but we haven’t met yet.

I try to play a bit of VF5 and I play on PSN. ID = ShinHogosha

Combined, so that means 0 + 50 still works. That said I probably put in more than 50 hours back when I was still trying to play Gear.

I think I’ll get plenty of Guilty Gear in when the revision is released.
