Thanks Brent for the info…
Possible venue: UW Hub
They have 8 360s @ $4 per hour rental.
Open until 11:30pm on Fridays.
Open until 5:30pm on Sundays.
Anyways who would be interested? The feedback I got last time did not sound very appealing but people are crying about shit in the other thread without doing anything/wanting to tear shit down. Again, this is not to step on toes of existing tourneys but the hub has plenty of setups and would be pretty receptive according to Brent… so thought I’d throw it out there.
The only thing that sucks is due to people working/etc I wouldn’t want to start a tourney until like 7PM, and if it’s a dedicated venue and such I would want it to be double elimination (single elimination kind of sucks to show up to if something else isn’t already going on). I don’t think covering the rental fee would be an issue, just cut it out of the pot and you could make it like 10$/person/game or something, depending on how big it is you can split the pot between top 3, and minus out rental fees.
I have never worked with them before, but they redesigned the entire gaming area to try to bring people in, so I think they would be more than happy to do some business with you and get things set up.
You could probably run some great tournaments with solid 20+ attendance from just UW students alone if you advertise well enough (that’s always the trick, isn’t it).
It’s also very close to good bus lines/etc for some of the less car-having idnividuals in the community. It really would be a pretty awesome venue. And they already have setups, we’d only need 3 or 4 to get a good amount of people through in a tourney.
Play N Trade - Kirkland has helped out with a few things like NWM and such. I really don’t know of anyone else, could maybe try a local Gamestop or something and see if they are allowed to do things like that.
For sponsers, I have a sort of connection in with Ubisoft. Last year, they contributed a couple games and stuff to a Brawl tourney held in late Spring (although it was for charity), so its not completely out of the question that we’d be able to get some stuff for a biweekly event.
Yup. PlayNTrade is amazing. Great managment, awesome store, and a willingness to be a part of the community. Hell, they are a part of the community. A local gaming stores which holds tournaments and wants to reach out to players.
Gamestop isn’t a bad idea, but PNT should probably be your first stop.
If you do this on a regular basis you might be able to talk the HUB into a discount rate. They already have some deal where you get a free hour for every ten hours you play, and if we’re there every other Firday or whatever renting out half the room I’m sure they could provide some sort of deal.
Sooo I went down there today and here’s what I got.
All we need to do is reserve the consoles a couple of weeks in advance.
$4 per hour per minute per console.
This venue is only good for 360’s (they have 8 360s vs 1 ps3).
Parking is FREE unless there’s a husky game that day.
Tons of places to eat around here.
Anyways here’re my thoughts.
Hold this Sunday afternoons at 12 or 1pm.
$10 buy in for less than 16 peeps, $8 for 16+… 75/15/10 split.
Tourney first, casuals later since they close at 5:30 on Sundays.
If people are down, does the Sunday after Thanksgiving work? Lemme know and I’ll go reserve some consoles… any suggestions for how many? I’ll call PnT tomorrow and maybe we can take a dollar out of every entry to make a poster for the next time. If people want to run a t6 tourney alongside, lemme know and I’ll reserve for em too!
