I was thinking of hosting a bi or tri weekly tourney at my apt complexes’ recreational room in Seattle. They have a 50ish inch TV with plenty of couches and outlets. Holds prolly around 30ish people. I’ve got 2 TVs I can bring down since the room is hella close.
Anyone. Interested? I’d most likely hold it on preppys/play n trades off weeks. Trying to figure out how many people would show up with TW/bar fights going on.
If so, what day, sat or sun works best for everyone? Times?
I’d try to show up when I could - depending on the day and my work schedule. I would want it to be a fairly cheap/casual tourney though, like 5$ buy-in max.
Perhaps this would be a good alternative for people who don’t want to go to tournament wars and prefer a slightly less intense tourney? If you take the saturday option, that seems like the way to go. If you want it to be on sunday, a lot of people will be burnt out from TW in some form. I’d be down for either day, but if you want the SFIV comp, you should definitely shoot for sunday.
It could also be a good TW warm-up, if the venues aren’t too far away from each other.
Tournament Wars is anything but intense - it’s just awesome. And the goal of any of these tournaments should be to try and bring the community together to level up. A separate tourney on the same day/night would just work towards splintering the community.
Now, if someone wanted to try and do a quick Single tourney or something BEFORE tournament wars, that might be tight. Like 1$ buy-in or something, more casual. (Way more before, like 6PM or something to make sure it doesn’t conflict)
I would. No need to be so hostile, dude. I’m sure some people would like opportunities to play in tournaments and raise their skills without dropping $35 to enter TW, not to mention team entries got cut off hella long ago. If TW was the only thing out there, then everyone who missed the chance to join would only suffer for it.
well, youre that special person arent you? people who arent part of it can still enjoy it. and casuals/side bets/singles tourneys can and will be thrown during. just because youre socially awkward and dont enjoy being in an environment where people are enjoying the spectator side of fighting games, i honestly doubt there would be any better place to be on a saturday night if you wanna get your street fighter fix.
@ Kuenai: 35 bucks for 8 matches towards a prize of $200 if you win + medals or trophies = a little over 4 dollars a game for four months. If ppl can’t fork up $35 dollars at once I’m more than willing to work with my players so they can enjoy themselves. We have people that are coming out and watching their friends duke it out in heatd (but friendly) competition. TournamentWars season 1 is just a stepping stone towards something that I envision to really bring our ENTIRE scene to a whole new level.
Not sunday because ppl will be burnt out on sfiv? You know how many people were like:
“Man can next saturday get here all ready?!”
The more that people come and see what TW’s is all about the more hype it gets. And when we finally get those numbers in so that best western is matching entry fees for singles (and hopefully) teams:
Why wouldn’t you go to tournament wars?!
I’m not just talking about sfiv here. Tekken 6 is slated to start in nov. SSFIV is slated to start THE FIRST WEEK after console release. MvC2 @ TW’s? As much as I hate that game, I still love my scene for it.
So I’m going to state my claim again:
NO SATURDAYS!
With our goal to increase the revenue @ BW being based off of Fae’s shift, I’d love to see people come in earleir to chill in the bar have some drinks, go to the restaurant eat some food (BEFORE 9pm). Jacob’s talking about setting up games in the lounge area, why not throw a prefunk tournment there?! Or a marvel tournament there?! I know it’s gonna suck for minors cause they can’t go in and play, but it’s a small price to pay for the grand scheme of things.
Honestly, I’m insulted that anyone woud try to cut into saturdays. Let alone anyone that is trying to say TW’s isn’t for them. Just like that FUCK running his mouth about how I’m only doing this for the money.
@Josh: My bad, I didn’t know there were singles tourneys and such at TW. My impression was that it was just an SFIV league from the beginning. And socially awkward my ass. Just because I don’t socialize with you and some of the other “OGs” because we disagree on so much doesn’t mean I’m some awkward wallflower. I don’t go telling you who and what you are, so why do you feel the need to do so to me? This hostility is fucking old, dude.
Fixed. Hell, I had a great time playing ST at Pablo’s with Beasley there. It’s just that I don’t enjoy SFIV, especially when it gets serious. I get grumpy even when I win during SFIV. Hell, I win most of the time I play. Don’t get me twisted like that, bro.
Anyway, I thought this season of TW was totally cut out already. If it’s
@Frank: Who said you were doing TW for money? That’s low.
socially awkward? hahaha yes, you are. sitting in zacks basement all by yourself on your laptop and when people have a match in that room making rude comments to them isnt being social. you need to make a realization that people hate on you for a reason.
anyways sorry to derail, saturdays are a no go IMO
I don’t enjoy playing SFIV either, but I don’t have a terrible attitude about it. Really. Ask Mandel or something, I don’t like Street Fighter Four. Never did. The only thing that got me playing was that Fuerte was a fun, innovative character, and I wanted to see what could be done with him because nobody else here really played him seriously. I then realized I so greatly enjoy the social aspect that it’s worth it to play a game that I don’t like as a game.
You, however, get grumpy in every game you play it’s just not as bad when you’re winning. Even when you were playing ST at my house, everything that came out of your mouth while playing was a complaint. I see you playing Zach over and over in Marvel while I’m outside and every time one of your characters died I could hear you bitching through the glass. Zach did not have the usual cheery face he does when playing the wonderful, ridiculous game of Marvel. Just take a step back from the situation, laugh and move on. It’s not worth getting angry over.
You pick the worst character in SFIV and then complain about how bad he is the entire match, and proceed to angrily punch yourself in the head* when you lose. (*extremely socially awkward)
You get angry at the first thing that goes wrong in a match (therefore losing your chance to win) and then when you lose you are NEVER a graceful loser. It’s always the stick is messing up; I didn’t do that; this TV has lag; my character sucks, whatever your excuse is at the time. Just man up, chalk a mistake and try something different in that situation next time. Rather than LEARN from the mistake, you just focus on the mistake and your irritation makes you unenjoyable to be around, much less play. When someone is unenjoyable to be around in a social situation, that is quite socially awkward.
Playing video games with people is a social situation and your attitude is not only unenjoyable to be around, it’s downright insulting. I honestly can’t remember a time you’ve taken a loss and chalked it up to your opponent outplaying you, or even just been a good sport about it. Never a modest “nice one” or “good shit” can I recall.
Believe me, I understand getting angry but the way you handle it is childish and inappropriate. I’m not trying to flame you, but you need a serious reality check sometimes. You are far too oblivious to how your awful attitude is detrimental to people’s enjoyment. It’s also detrimental to your skill level, which is in turn detrimental to our skill level. You don’t offer much as a player being that guy who is just a sore loser. You seem to enjoy winning (which is fine, who doesn’t?) but you would win even more if you would make a 180 with the mindset you play matches in. Beating you isn’t fun because you get upset. Losing to you isn’t fun because you wouldn’t be saying “good game” if you lost.
I honestly believe that despite what some may think, if it weren’t for your negativity and disrespectful attitude, you would be an alright guy to be around. I’m sorry to lay it down like this but I don’t know what else to do. I’m tired of ignoring you while everyone else just deals with you with hostility or just painfully puts up with you. What goes around comes around, and the negativity you spew just comes around in the form of hostility toward you.
I never let other people’s opinions of you form my opinion of you, I always give people the benefit of the doubt. I’ve been seeing your behavior since we played ST years ago and not a thing has changed. I tried to go in the living room and play Marvel with you and Zach last time because I saw low tier matches and I have a passion for low tier Marvel. I couldn’t handle it though, you were playing low tier casual marvel matches where nobody else is line, and still you complained more than anyone I’ve ever heard playing a fighting game.
I once had my friend in middle school say, straight up, “GOD! You complain too fucking much!” and it was just what I needed to really think about my attitude. She was right, and nothing would have gotten through to me if she didn’t just straight up say it like that. I was in walking class (substitute for P.E.) class and I was complaining about being tired. You complain about someone’s red box overlapping your blue box.
I know nobody shows you respect and I know it’s frustrating, but to be honest you don’t show anyone else respect and it’s a vicious cycle. To try to get this tournament to happen on the same day at tournament wars as an alternative is disrespectful to Frank. He’s trying really hard to fuel the business that is giving us our free venue and you basically are trying to shit on it. If people really don’t want to go to tournament wars, that’s cool, but to try to create an event that will take away from it is rude. I agree that it could be a good warm-up for TW, but it would have to start pretty early because tournaments always run later than planned. It would really be a lot more effort than it’s worth to run it on Saturday as well. Nobody wants to get up early and go to a tournament, only to be staying up late at best western the same night. I am all for more SFIV in Seattle, but the Saturday thing is a stupid idea.
