Instead of Street Fighter 5 what about a new Capcom fighter

First off, 3D is not lazy secondly SNK is the one that’s been saying no, at least that’s what Capcom keeps saying.

Either way, you didn’t counter my point. Regardless of whether or not 3D is a cop out of creating sprites, and who says “no” to what - if Capcom made a CvS based game with the outlines that I mentioned, OGs would be very accepting, and I stand by that.

If Capcom decided to publish Friendship is Magic people would be pleased what you’re missing is that a lot of people like CvS because it has… Capcom and SNK characters.

Putting Mega Man or Jin or Captain Commando in a CvS2 environment would suck because they’d feel so limited.

If you model them after their MvC counterparts, then yes. Reworking a character design never hurt anyone, or the SF cast wouldn’t have made the MvC lineup.

As for CvS… Actually, a lot of people like it because it’s a fucking amazing game, regardless of which characters are in it.
Years ago, nobody cried when "OMG MY FAVORITE CHARACTER ISNT IN THE GAME!"
That’s a new mentality, and quite a piss-poor one if I might add.
The only time anybody ever opened their mouth was for SF3, because that was fucking radical to eliminate EVERYBODY sans Ryu/Ken.
They could even take a character like Zero and replace Hoahmaru with him, and I’m sure there are other examples too.

I think there was a miscommunication point on my part here, yes they could be redesigned but they’d feel very limited on that type of engine.

You’re telling me CvS sold because ti was good, not at all because Ryu and Terry were on the cover? I disagree.

Yes.
and Kyosuke and Kim were on the cover of CvS2, which is the game I’m talking about.
I think Ryu and Terry were on the cover of Pro, but I don’t know a single person that bought that game…

Regardless of what you think, CvS2 is still one of the best fighters Capcom ever produced. Casual players didn’t buy this game as much as they were with Marvel 2, Alpha 3, and other, casual fighters at the time. CvS2 didn’t sell well by comparison, it sold to the people that would play the shit out of it for years and years to come - because it’s a really solid game.

commando could be sick in CvS

Whatever! The notion that the game’s sales were attributed solely to the fact that it was a good game and not at all character familiarity is pretty off.

Somehow I don’t think as many people would have tried out Marvel without Marvel characters on the cabinet.

Sweet Fancy Moses. I’m willing to bet that the number of people who bought CvS/2 or any Capcom Fighter because they’re good is MUCH greater than the number who bought it because of the cover. Anyone who buys a game, book, or whatever solely because of the cover (and without doing the tiniest bit of research) is a dumbass.

If Activision can turn Modern Warfare into a billion dollar franchise through just well made tv ads then anything is possible

You’ve gotta be kidding me with this shit… “the cover” is a blanket phrase. (And the game you choose to portray that idiotic meme crap is ironic).

Would Smash Bros sell without Mario, Link etc? Fuck no. Not that well anyways

By saying that it sold because “some character is on the over” is saying the characters sold the game.

Case in point? Shitty Sonic games sell, Halo books sell, characters sell shit. It’s such a simple concept, why is it so hard to accept?

Why is it such a difficult concept to grasp, that, if you actually DO this, then you are in fact a dumbass?

Sent from my thumbs, using SRK technology.

That isn’t why COD sells the way it does.

Oh absolutely, the people that do buy that way are sheep, it’s just most people are like that and a sheep’s 60 dollars is just as good as anyone’s.

I’m attacking the plausibility of this based on how it would sell, because a lot of ideas seems totally awesome but are not products that I could see selling.

Go on

COD sells the way it does because it is easily played, and its easy to have fun. Almost anybody can pick up and play while still being “good”. This is achieved through level design, weapon design, and kill streaks.

Levels for the most part are designed to leave you open from 3 sides at all times, effectively putting everybody in the same playing field. You can’t always cover yourself, so you’re just as susceptible to gunfire as everybody else. They are also built to funnel players into various situations in which there is generally a coin toss that decides your fate. Corridors and long hallways make for shooting galleries while you try to make your way into a bigger, more arena type area that total uncontrolled chaos can happen in.

Kill streaks give you free kills for getting kills, so it bloats your score for practically nothing. Which, in the end, all anybody cares about is their KDR. When half of your KDR is from a Helicopter that flies around the map, shooting people on its own, it makes you look like you’re doing extremely well when you really haven’t done anything at all.

Perks add even more variables to the combat which is again give and take from your score.

Call of Duty is a brilliant money making machine.

Indeed, those are the reasons people keep playing (at least I do). But the marketing push this game gets, they are able to continuously grow their consumer base game after game.

Word of mouth goes infinitely farther than a commercial with Jonah Hill, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. They have such a huge marketing budget because of how well it sells, not because they are trying to make it sell well. You know what I mean?

For sure

Because SvC also sold well… oh wait, it didn’t.
