Installing an MC Cthulhu and Imp in an Xbox 360 SF4 SE stick

Nice. I’d really appreciate it, man. Hey, I woulda got the MC if it was available. There was only one place with anything in stock at the time… and the cheapy one was it. Beggars can’t be choosers, I guess. :frowning:

Thank you both Toodles and Bomberman.

Bomberman, your Arcade Stick has 24mm? or 30mm buttons?

The 8 action buttons are 30 mm, but I added 24 mm buttons for Back and Start.

like you i followed exactly faux123’s diagram, i have the ps3 only cthulhu, it did not power up. toodles gave the answer on page 4,

all i changed from the diagram is the 5v imp point goes the vcc point on the cthulhu point too, it worked for me.

THANKS FOR THAT!!!

That’s all I wanted to know. Was wondering if it would short anything by having 2 wires go there, but if you say it works, I’ll take your word for it.

Going to try it tonight.

THANKS!

I also consulted the welcome sheet for the reg. Cthulhu, and point A is also a VCC. (in the 2 rows labeled A-H, 1-9)… this would also do the trick I bet. I’ll give it a shot, and will post results here.

Fujifilm, thanks for your explanation, I missed that part and was able to get my guide button light to finally come on…however, it blinks on and then goes off until I unplug it, plug it back in again, and it goes back on. I have the 360 + and - data lines on the 1 spots, so it should be booting in xbox by default.

Question, on THIS picture:

See the part where it says GND AND VCC in the bottom left? Do I need that VCC connected to anything, or only the 5v, because the VCC on that point is not included in your update picture you just posted.

Thanks for the help, guys.

VCC and 5V are the same. It’s just power.

Yup! works perfectly!

I used the nearby A slot, instead of putting 2 wires into the VCC slot.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL! DUAL-MOD WOOOOOO w(^o^)w

Sorry, I’m new to this whole tinkering with the insides of arcade sticks… actually new to arcade sticks in general. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, I had 2 quick questions.

If I bought a Cthulhu Fully Assembled, there would be a minimal amount of soldering … correct?

and

The Cthulhu Fully Assembled comes working straight out of the box so I should be able to just put it in my stick and it would work?
I’m wondering if the Imp Board is necessary; I don’t mind having multiple cables coming out of my stick.

If you want multiple cables coming out of the stick, you will not need an Imp. And yes, that is a little easier.

As for soldering, you can’t make a 2 system stick without soldering. Gotsta get used to it. The good news is that soldering is easy and people who are scared of it are afraid for nothing!

Excellent! Yeah, I kept messing with the power line last night and eventually got it. I ended up taking the V1 line out and attaching it to the 5v on the Cthulhu where the usb connector goes. It worked and there were no longer tears of frustration… only joy.

I’m not sure how I missed that fix previously. Thanks for posting up your diagram - that’s hard to miss.

i followed faux123’s diagram, i did not use the vcc point on the te pcb, did you double check all the points go to the right places.

Thanks Bomberman for answering my first post!

But… I have one more quick question. :stuck_out_tongue:

Once I have implemented the Cthulhu board, is a DPDT switch necessary to switch between Xbox 360 and PS3/PC… or will the PS3/PC portion come with its own cable?
(I’m that guy not getting an Imp Board)

Thanks in advance.

The Cthulhu board (if you buy an assembled one) comes with a USB port, but then you need a USB cable (with the large printer-type end) to actually connect it to the console. That’s convenient cause you can leave the cable off when you’re not using it. No DPDT switch needed if you’re gonna have 2 separate cables.

So here’s what happened during my 360 TE mod:

EDIT: Everything works now. I forgot to snip some excess wire after I finished soldering on the IMP, and it was touching another soldered point for one of the chips. That made the IMP go bonkers.

I’m stupid because I forgot to re-read Toodle’s post in his Cthulhu thread about the extra [D-] and [D+] spots on the Cthulhu board under the D & E columns respectively.

Props and Slops:

faux123 for the connection Diagram

Slops:
Me, for not double checking my work.
Mad Catz for making me wait until NOW to get my TE. Better late than never, I suppose.

Test the stick in Windows and see what’s happening there.

Are any of you guys having problems with your headset microphone after performing the mod?

I’ve got the Imp and Cthulhu in and my stick and buttons work great in both PS3 and 360 modes. But my microphone puts out a ton of noise and my voice can barely be heard. I can’t seem to figure it out. Any advice would be helpful.

My PS3 cthulu came with a USB port attached to it, am I supposed to use a cord on that port, because I just soldered wires to the underside of it and still use my Xbox 360 cord for my TE stick.
