Just to be clear, moving the RS/LS/DP slider will not have any affect on the Imp or Cthulhu after its been plugged in. The Madcatz will do its normal thing about reporting the stick, but the after plugged in, my stuff doesn’t care. #1 because this should always be the first thing for any problems, update the MC firmware. Grab it from the first post in the Cthulhu thread. Move the slider to whatever the MC setting is (should be DP in that diagram) and plug it in with Start and Sel pressed and follow the readme in the zip file. #2 After the firmware is updated, doublecheck the setting of the slide switch and plugging it into your PC so make sure you know which spot to put the slider to select Cthulhu mode. Should be DP, please doublecheck to be sure, since for testing on the PS3 it should be left there and never touched. #3 Try it a couple of times by plugging it into the PS3 when the PS3 is on and at the normal system menu. Move the stick around to see if you can navigate the menu. Try this a few times; it is very possible for it to work occasionally. #4 Assuming it never works and never manuevers around the menu, open the stick up, grab an A-to-B USB cable and directly plug it into the Cthulhu and the PS3. Make sure the normal cable is not plugged into anything! Try to move around the menu again.
Alright, thanks for taking the time to help me out. I’ll try this out when I get home and post what happens. If it turns out to be the firmware then I apologize for wasting your time.
Alright, I tried steps 1-3 and still no change. When I plug it into the PS3 the HOME button will flicker real quick then flashes about every 2 seconds. I didn’t notice that before, thought it might be worth mentioning. It also deactivated my USB ports once or twice on the PS3 after I plugged it in and tried it a few times. I tried to plug in another controller which it works with all the time and I got no response then I tried to plug in a sixaxis through the USB and it wasn’t charging. It did regain functionality when I powered down and back up though.
I’m going to try step 4 later on when I get home, I think I have an A to B laying around somewhere…
Plugged the A to B cable directly into the Cthulhu and then the PS3, works perfectly. Does that mean that the IMP is defective or did I possibly do a shitty wiring job? I still don’t understand why it works on the PC but not on the PS3 through the IMP though. If you could clear this up for me I’d appreciate it. Until then, looks like I’ll be having 2 wires coming out of my stick until I do the RJ-45 mod. Thanks for the help toodles.
I would suggest a new Imp. It’s possible that there’d be a wiring problem that is intermittant and occasionally happens after moving the stick, but your description sounds too consistent. One of the gates on the Imp 4066 chip may have gotten screwy when being soldered in. Swap with a new imp and I bet your problem will be fixed.
After ChImping my TE stick, I’m trying to pull something like this off on my next stick. (Which, by the way, is really great)
One thing that I notice is that this guide suggests using an unassembled MC Cthulhu but I don’t think you can get those anywhere anymore, not from Lizard Lick anyways.
Is there a problem with the USB jack and the screw terminals? I mean, you could adapt some parts of the guide in order to deal with it, correct?
I figure worst case scenario, I’d just unsolder the USB jack and screw terminals if I went with the assembled MC Cthulhu.
@gamer?It was probably written before the Cthulhu came only assembled. If you really wanna solder, you can just use the tiny holes on top and be hardcore . But you can always take things off, and have fun. Glad to have another face in the stick modding crowd ;D
I’m having a slight error with my Dual Mod. This is my second time dual modding a stick with the MC Cthulu and Imp btw.
For some reason, I can’t get the Imp to switch over to 360 mode. I have it set up to the R stick, and with the switch in R stick mode, the 360 won’t read my stick. I’ve double checked and triple checked the wires and solders and everything looks good. The firmware is also up to date and the stick registers on both PC and PS3 with all the buttons working fine.
Also, another weird thing, when I plug in the stick, all of the 4 LEDs about the guide button stay lit up, in PS3, PC and 360. But in 360, the stick doesn’t work, only the lights pop up.
I did put the switch back to DP after plugging it in with RS on.
Also, to clarify, when I plug the stick into the Xbox 360, it doesn’t read the whole stick. The lights on the front of the Xbox 360 don’t even come on indicating that a controller is hooked up to it.
The LEDs around the Xbox Guide button on the arcade stick though all stay lit.
Is it just when in PS3 or does it happen when playing on the 360 too? From my experience, random pausing has been cause by a loose USB wire on the IMP board.
So, is it no possible to mod a PS3 SE fightstick and use it on the Xbox 360? I didn’t see anything talk about it, nor could I pull up anything using the search function >_<
I heard adapters are crap, so I want to stray away from one of those unless someone knows about a good one.
