Just did this mod on my TE stick and am having a little trouble. Tested in windows all my buttons work fine in both cuthlu and sf te(RS) modes but when i plug it in to my 360 the guide button lights up for a couple seconds but none of my buttons work. Any idea what this could be? And yes i am switching it to (RS) when im pluging it in.
Would the same principals apply if dualmodding a PS3 SE with a 360 pcb?
Same idea yes, as easy to do HELL NO. I’ve done the 360 with success and put a shot in at the PS3 one. I had a messed up 360 pad, so I never got to complete the hack. I can tell you without a doubt 360 is the way to go, not to mention you can do the MC Chthulhu version and get more systems.
I remember hearing someone did it and may have put a work log up. Go search around it may show up.
I’m going to put a second attempt in at modding my PS3 when time (and after I do my TE) and money permit. If I do I’ll post up the log.
Well I already have an PS3 SE so I don’t want to buy another. I’ll just dual-mod my custom, but was hoping dual-modding the SE would be just as easy since it is so much smaller than my wood custom. Cheers.

Ok so if i boot up the 360 with the guide button it works but if the 360 is on and i plug it in the stick dosent work at all the guide button lights up for sec and goes out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
sorry, forgot to mention it. Whenever I plug the stick into the cpu, it blinks for a minute on the LED and then comes up as an “unknown device”. No I didn’t ignore it, but I posted that post when I was dead tired and kind of frustrated. Cut me some slack here.
Any ideas?
I don’t know if you already did this, but you gotta make sure you switch the stick selection switch back to d-pad once you’ve booted it up and the stick is recognized.
Also, some people have said something about the light coming on for a few seconds and going out- that’s not a symptom of any problem. I used to think that too, but I realized I had a different problem and once I fixed it- that light thing still happens. On mine at least, the light will turn on and go out when I use it on any system (except on the 360 it will eventually come back on and light up the player indicator like it normally would)
wuts the difference between say a 22 AWG wire and 30 AWG wire?
and do i need stranded or solid wire?
I seriously recommend solid wire as stranded wire is much more difficult to keep neat and avoid wires touching each other.
30 AWG wire is much thinner than 22 AWG wire, which makes it useful for soldering to small points like what those on TE/SE PCBs. If you prefer thicker wire, 26 AWG would also be appropriate.
Redrapper, I believe your problem is coming from one of these:
-an error in connecting the power and ground wires between the 3 boards
-Two tires touching where they shouldn’t, causing a short
-One of the PCBs touching something it shouldn’t (such as installing the Cthulhu in an SE stick without putting cardboard beneath it)
Look back a few pages where I helped Manman troubleshoot for some things you can try.
another thing people can check for in that situation is that when you put everything back together, you put the ribbon cables to the 360 pcb back in the correct places. The two next to eachother on the left side are easy to switch, but I think one of them goes to the stick selection switch, so if you switched them by accident you’ll get that same symptom (light flashes on for a second, but stick doesn’t work)
When i boot the 360 “with the guide button” up and switch to dp it works fine but when the 360 is already powered on and i plug up my stick the guide button flickers for a sec and i get no connectivity. Is this normal i mean does the stick actually have to be the controller that turns on the 360 to work or did i make some mistake im not aware of?
oh, no that’s not normal, I’ve always turned it on from the xbox…that’s pretty strange. Not that it should matter, but just for the sake of investigation, are you turning the 360 on with the stick already plugged in, or plugging the stick in after the 360 is already on (in the situation where it’s not working).
EDIT: sorry, i should have read better, you answered that. Have to tried it by plugging the stick in first and then powering on?
so if i were to use a SIXAXXISadapter+Sixaxxis PCB in place for the Cthulu, what would be different? Assume i still use imp board
You couldn’t do that. Only common ground PCBs will work for this mod, and the SixAxis is not a common ground controller.
i thought the AXISadapter made it a common ground controller? isn’t that the purpose/function of the Axisadapter?
please correct me if i am wrong or sound ridiculous
No, the SixAxis adapter just makes it a lot easier to use a SixAxis in a joystick. Without the adapter, you have to solder to a ton of tiny pins that are very close to each other.
It is possible to construct a custom PCB that converts the signals from any non-common ground PCB into common ground signals, but no one has written an *easy to follow *guide yet.
ah, thx, i’ve asked that question a couple of times on the forum and u’ve given me the best answer so far.
so in short, doing 360/PS3 dual mod on a TE stick at the moment is only doable with cthulu on a 360 TE.
It’s the best way to go. You can do it with a PS3 TE, but padhacking a 360 controller and getting the trigger buttons to work add a lot of extra trouble and risk that things will go wrong.
lol i have been going over tons of posts here and diagrams, still not confident enough that i can do it!
another question bomberman if u may, so it is my understanding that, bascially the dual modding involves
- take out all existing wires from joystick/buttons to 360 TE PCB
- connecting joysticks/buttons to the cthulu, and also connecting the 360 TE PCB to the cthulu
- connecting Cthulu and 360 TE PCB to imp board
- connecting the existing TE usb cable to imp board
am i right?
