Installing an MC Cthulhu and Imp in an Xbox 360 SF4 SE stick

wow thats sweet!!!

thats sooooooooo neat and tidy its not funny…

WOW. I never would have thought of that. I can’t believe how clean and solid that looks!
I may have to dig out some epoxy and try that.

30 gauge ribbon? Damn that looks nice.

is it really 30 gauge? looks a little thicker to me. If I were to do mine over again, I might pic something a little thicker. During my troubleshooting phase, I felt like I was walking on eggshells like something might snap at any time… It held up, but I might end up going 28 or 26 next time.

I think in my 2 years of using 30 AWG wire I’ve had a wire snap once a while back… But I guess you do need to be careful when handling them. It does make soldering to those button and direction spots easier though.

Looks great, EJM!

That is just plain hot. I may just do that for my TE mod I’m working on next now that my SE is done. I’d have to make my wiring a little looser though, since I’m going for the MC Cthulhu route.

Where did you find that ribbon cable? I’m failing at finding any wire management I like past tie-wraps.

Thanks guys, Its just regular 30 AWG wire from RadioShack. I just make it look like a ribbon by putting a drop of super glue on top. I use a piece of wax paper underneath to prevent the super glue from touching the PCB components and then remove it once it dries. Even though it looks nice, I do it because its easy to see mistakes in case I need to fix something.

im sorry if this is out of topic. Is there any possibility that connecting a wireless PS3 pad and a wireless 360 pad together?cheers

Edit: or PC/PS3 Cthulhu with wireless 360 pad. Please guide me with link/s if there is already existing thread about this. Thanks

Both PCBs have to be common ground and the SixAxis/DualShock is not. Theoretically you could do a CG wireless 360 PCB and a Cthulhu, but I haven’t seen anyone attempt it yet.

The op still says the imp costs 7 might want to change it to 9

If one were to use an RJ-45 Block for all connections using an MC Cthulhu (PS3, 360, PSX/2, etc), how exactly might one accomplish that?

Postulation:
I’m using a picture made by Maxx Mana as a guide (http://sites.google.com/site/joysticksetc/Home/dual-mod2.png), but the fact that the RJ-45 block receives 4 wires from both the Imp and Cthulhu concern me, since acceptablerisk’s thread (http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=178604) on how to set up the RJ-45 block and complementary cables (USB, PSX, GC, etc.) uses one full row on the MC Cthulhu.

Would I just dedicate one row on the Cthulhu (G, A, B, C, D, E, F, V) to the RJ-45 block and just connect the 360 PCB and Imp as shown in the diagram, but using row 2 on the Cthulhu for the connections from the Cthulhu to GND, VCC, 1D+, and 1D- on the Imp? Or does it work as is and I’m just being silly?

P.S. For the record, I’m using a Madcatz 360 pad, not a TE/SE PCB. I don’t see how this would make any difference, but it’s important to include as much information as possible.

If you have only the RJ-45 and no dedicated USB cable, use Maxx Mana’s diagram. Four wires to the Imp, four wires to the MC Cthulhu.

I believe what your asking is that you want to have the USB be detachable as well as the other systems.

Bomberman didn’t do his mod that way, but I believe this image from Maxx Mana is the answer your looking for: here.

That is one funky image. I can’t tell where the other 4 wires from the RJ-45 are going.

Forgive me if I’m being dense.

So, the D+, D-, GND, and VCC from the Cthulhu go to the Imp, and the Imp supplies what would be the missing D+, D-, GND, and VCC from the Cthulhu. Thus, only four more wires are required from the Cthulhu to receive an entire row…?

I’m definitely going to clean this up once I receive the visio diagram from Maxx Mana. This diagram is too useful.

Lucky me to have stumbled on a thread about
Exactly what I wanted to do. Now I can follow just about everything with the helpful diagrams and such, but the one area I’m just in the dark is in regards to the USB cable. I understand that you cut them from being connected to the 360 pcb is it? But I’m just lost on where to connect it to. It’s probably just me being blind but any clarification I can get on this would be greatly appreciated.

Btw I’m planning on doing it with just the ps3 only one if that makes a difference and I’m sorry of this was answered some posts back but I just want some reassurance by asking.

check out the diagram again:

if you look to the left, it shows you where the USB cable connects on the imp board.

I take it the Imp routes the power to the two pcbs then. If I understood that right then I really suck at diagrams -_-

Thx a lot for a speedy reply. Can’t wait to get started on all this.

yup, you got it.

Actually, my answer assumes you want to use the imp, if you’re gonna use a dpdt switch instead then I think you can either solder it to the cthulhu board, or if you get the pre-assembled one w/ usb plug already on it you can use that.

I’ll be going the Imp route being it doesn’t look like that much extra work at all really :razzy:

tnx again for the help

Using the Imp is easier because you don’t have to drill and risk screwing up your case or mounting the DPDT switch badly.
