Remz of course that does not work. They are two completely different technologies.
Surlung I’ll look forward to your test! I’ll change the guide to use that switch instead of Guide if it works well for you.

Got my dual mod working my problem came down to the a Solder bridge on the Imp Board between power and ground. Also was working with 30AWG Kynar wire from Radioshack was way too brittle which kept breaking off. I would recommend stranded wire that is a little bigger in size. But thanks for all the help
I’ve never had a problem with Kynar wire breaking unless I bent it really hard. It makes soldering to small points - especially points that are close to each other, such as the button locations on the SE/TE PCB - much easier than thicker wire types. But we all have our preferences.
Congrats on getting your stick working!
I just finished rewiring the GUIDE from IMP to Rstick solder point. It works great, it’s awesome.
I decided to pick RS, since I’ll never use RS. So now it just became my dedicated xbox/ps3 select.
I have two questions, and a problem as well.
Problem: In Xbox360 mode, if I use LS to control Up/down/left/right, there’s a slight lag to neutral after I press the right or left for about a second. For example, I hold LEFT for 1 sec and let go - character will keep going LEFT for a split second more. If I hold LEFT for less than a sec, he stops immediately. If I hold LEFT for longer than a sec, he stops immediately as well. Only when I hold it for about a second there an issue. My guess is that the mod somehow adds additional RC, and analog detection is too sensitive. Anybody find the same? It doesn’t really matter I guess, since I can use DP mode to play game… but kind of bothering me.
Question 1: In Xbox360, I can control character with LS/DP mode, but not RS. In PS3 mode, I can control character with all (LS/DP/RS). Is this the default behavior?
Question 2: I can’t control cursor in xbox menu with LS mode… only DP. Is this also expected behavior of the TE stick? Now that I’ve crossed the line with the mod, I can’t remember what it did before the mod lol.
I’ll try and have a pic up later tonight but the quality might be kinda bad. Wiring is all over the place, even with the knots to bundle it with. Makes me appreciate the clean mod/wiring jobs I’ve seen on the pics here.
Got one last question that is for verification again … regarding this part.
Wiring from SE and Cthulhu PCBs to the Imp
Run a wire from the SE’s Guide button point (which should already have a wire attached to it unless you opted to use this alternate point to connect Guide and Home) to the Guide point on the Imp.
So I have two wires running into one point on the SE board? I was trying it before and got frustrated with soldering both wires to it and not accidentally soldering it to another point as well.
Damn
Hi guys, sorry for being noob but I tried to do this mod with the PS3 Only Cthulhu and Imp on my SE Stick.
I did everything as instructed and followed Bomberman’s guide and Faux’s Diagram.
However when i plug it into the PC in 360 mode i get the “device not recognized” error. In Ps3 mode the joystick is recognized. All buttons work but the directionals are kinda wonky. It only registers Down and Down+Left but not Up, Left(by itself) or Right.
What could be the problem here and how do i fix it?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time!
The Xbox guide gets connected to the Cthulhu Home and the Imp Guide if you want the guide button to select which pcb to use.
Good point about #1. I’ll checkw ith regular pad. However, on the 2nd question, I can use Xbox pad’s LS to navigate the XBOX menu, just not with TE with LS selected. Anyone have insight?
I have the same problem with my TE. However, I don’t find myself caring since DP is the best anyway. It’s all psychosomatic, but it feels better somehow.
If anything its just the labeling thats different. The bottom of my pic is the right side of yours. That had me confused, and I just noticed in your walkthrough that you listed G= Ground where the button points are at. So I opted to take out all the wires and start from scratch again since it was so messy.
Editting in response so I don’t clog the thread ; I will make the blobs smaller. Thank you. =)
Thanks for the info. BTW you need to make your soldering a lot neater or you’re going to run into problems. Those blobs are way too big.
just need clarification on row 1 of the cthulhu, it’s hard to see in the picture. is it correct to combine the last wire of the rj45 cable & the wire for imp vcc, and then solder it to column v? or solder the imp vcc line only and use row 2 for the rj45 wires.
the reason i ask is because instructables says only use row 1 for playstation.
And the funny part is, I said that to avoid the ucky explanations why The only thing different between the rows is the V column, and the only thing different about those is the diode it goes through; the black diodes work better for the PSX than the glass ones do.
With an RJ45 mod and an Imp, what I recommend is the the VCC (power) line goes from the rj45 jack to the Imp, in the hole for the incoming USB labelled ‘V-Red’. The main VCC point on the Imp goes to the Cthulhu in row 1 or row 2, column V. The 360 pcb’s power line, labelled USBVCC on the 360 pcb, gets connected to either the Cthulhu’s VCC screw terminal point or the Cthulhu’s unlabelled hole for VCC.
The way you described, and I think the way Bomberman did it, is to have both the Imp VCC line and the VCC line from the RJ45 going to the same hole in the V column, works. Electrically, its the exact same as what I just described.
The key point to remember is that the 360 pcb gets its power ONLY from either the Cthulhu’s VCC screw terminal point or the Cthulhu’s unlabelled hole for VCC. That makes sure that the incoming power always goes through one of the Cthulhu diodes for safety.
EDIT: Whoops, that’s not how Bomberman did it. He has the power from the RJ45 going to one row, and the power from the USB cable going to another. Perfectly safe.
hi guys,
i just got everything wired for my xbox 360 te + mc cthulhu + imp
1 problem i have is, usb from TE works only for xbox 360, USB from cthulhu only works for PS3…
where did my wiring go wrong? its imp suppose to allow me to just use the USB from TE to work for both ps3 + xbox 360, i made the solder to have the imp constantly check the start+select thing.
thanks!
I have the vcc running from cthulhu to the madcatz te pcb V5, then the vcc from the imp to the cthulhu v1.
is that right?
thanks in advance!
thank you so much toodles. i was second guessing myself and needed reassurance that i was moving in the right direction.
so are you are saying you have 2 usb cables coming out of your stick? please read over the first post of this thread, you should only have 1 usb cable connected to the imp board.
nope i only have 1 usb the original coming from the TE (the one i wanna use ) i used the mc cthulhu’s usb to test if it worked or not.
reread the 1st post, just changed the v5 from cthulhu to vcc on pcb board. instead of the original v5 to v5 from cthulhu to pcb.
thanks alot guys i got it fixed. didnt pull guide button too imp + cthulhu + pcb.
now it works thanks. cheers
hey guys,
I’ve attempted this mod with a 360 SE stick, PS3 Cthulhu and Imp.
I’ve wired everything according to faux’s diagram with the exception of the Imp’s 5v which goes into the Red-V point at the Cthulhu’s USB Jack (since im using a ps3 cthulhu)
I plug it in into my PC and everything works fine in PS3 mode, buttons, directions and home button all work.
However when I try to power it up into 360 mode by holding down the guide button and plugging it into my PC NOTHING happens.
Can anyone help me with this? thanks!
Just finished my second dual mod!!!
It didn’t work at first, the cthulhu wouldn’t work, but the switch worked when pressing the guide button and it switched over to the 360 board, so it seemed like the cthulhu wasn’t getting any power, re-soldered everything, tested and it was working, i then installed it back on the pcb legs, then nothing would work!!
After taking it apart a third time, i found that the ground wire had snapped, so it was a matter of re-soldering that on, that was tested and away she went.
I’ve now got two dual modded TE’s.
YAY!!!
This time around, the mod is soooooooooooooooo much neater then my previous one, but bottom line is both work TE’s work on a PS3 and a 360
hmm yea i’ve triple checked all my connections and they look correct and solid.
I’ve also tried using the multiple VCC points on the board (USBVCC on SE board and the ‘A’ point on the top row of the cthulhu) to no avail
Could my SE’s PCB be fried?
