Just wondering, how did you mount your imp and cthulhu where you did? Did you drill holes and screw?
I think he drilled a 24mm hole and drilled holes for 2 screws
For the Imp and cthulhu, not the neutrik jack
I think a 1/8 drill bit
Got a 15/16th Hole Saw Bit from Ace’s Hardware which isnt really 24mm its 23.8mm will this work
Yes that will work. If it’s too tight, you can just a Dremel or file to make the hole a little bigger, but I think it will push right in.
so i’m about to start my dual mod TE, and was doing my homework, reading the instructions, and looking at faux123 diagram and i’m a bit confused on the connection of the ‘Guide’ points on the Imp, Madcatz PCB, and MC Cthulhu.
in faux132 diagram looks like the ‘Guide’ point all link up together. in the (Bomberman) instructions it sounds like i’m suppose to connect Imp guide point to the guide point on the Madcat PCB (labeled XGUILD), which is also connected to the MC Cthulhu. meaning there are two wires soldered to the same point on the Madcatz PCB (Imp and MC Cthulhu) - is this correct?
I’m not certain 100% about what Faux123 did, but what I did on my TE mod AND my SE mod was connect the guide on the madcatz PCB to the Cthulhu’s home, and connected the Cthulhu’s home to the Imp’s guide. So instead of the madcatz board being soldered to twice, the Cthulhu was soldered to twice, because it has a bigger contact/more room for error.
I’m also not sure about this, but I think the madcatz board has 2 spots for guide. Theres a contact labeled “G” which faux’s diagram doesn’t use. I dunno if thats ground or guide. I’m thinking it might be guide because ground is generally GND, but I haven’t taken a multimeter to it to verify yet. I think bomberman might have used this contact based on pictures, but again I’m not sure.
For mounting my boards, I took some velcro, cut it into small strips, and glued it to the screw areas of cthulu and IMP. Then dab a bit of glue onto the TE base, and put the opposite piece of velco down.
This keeps the boards in place, low, and easily removable if I need to work on it. :wgrin:
Damn I goofed
Tried to solder one wire to the Madcatz 360 PCB and it wouldnt stay on for nothing
Rushed to Home Depot to buy Wire stripper for this 22 & 26 AWG wire I was working with.
Then it hit me I bought Enamel Coated Magnet Wire from Radio shack this has no insulation
Damn will this work…?
if not I will have to wait till tomorrow
I’m planning on dual modding my 360 TE to use with PS3 (then PS2 later in the future) and had a question about the parts needed. I was planning on getting the “Imp kit” and the “Assembled MC Cthulhu board, including screw terminals and USB jack”. Is that all that I need? I got confused with the MC Cthulhu Kit with or without the USB. I tried to look and got overwhelmed with all the info. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
RayU, I do list all the things you will need in the first post… Those are the two main things that you’ll need. But if you don’t plan on installing an RJ-45 jack for GameCube/PS1/2/Xbox 1 support, you should just buy a PS3-only Cthulhu instead of the MC Cthulhu.
You really must make sure you understand the first two posts of this thread before spending the money and attempting to perform the mod. I’m seeing a lot of beginners (like RemzRR) who have never done mods before, and that’s just asking for trouble with an advanced mod like this. Plus all the little foo-foo questions (not yours) just clutter up my thread.
Damn wow I installed some modchips back in the day on my original playstation, Modded a PS2 & wii. And I was able to put together the Imp & MC Cthulhu without much problems.
I just run into issues which aren’t described into certain detail. Some other member said the RJ-45 Mod wouldnt fit inside of the compartment and then another posts pics of his completed mod with the jack inside which is one example
Another example was 2 buttons were reversed in the wiring diagram which was discovered 4-5 pages later
…so yeah I try to take my time because of all of various setups and misinformation
Sorry If I came at anybody the wrong way I just have some questions and if you dont wanna answer questions just say so and direct me to someone who can instead of the insults about cluttering threads isnt that whut this thread was made for putting together the imp with cthulhu…?
maxx mana,
Would you mind posting a picture of the boot after it has been altered? I am interested in the amount that was needed to cut back.
Thanks!
Phase I Complete
Major props/rep/kudos/thanks to Bomberman for this excellent tutorial! :lovin: Also many thanks to Toodles for the Cthulhu/Imp boards :wgrin:
No problems, just took it slow and read each step twice. Though, I may invest in a de-soldering tool and grow a third arm
Now to the start light-up mod
I am a complete novice who only just learned to solder.
Using this guide I have successfully created a dual pcb stick. It took me over 4 hours, but I think it’s well worth it!
I used an MC Cthulu that I had from a previous solderless build - so it still had the screw terminals attached - but didn’t bother with the RJ-45 jack as I wouldn’t use it.
Thank you so much for making this guide, I don’t think I can +ve rep you, but I would if I could :lovin:
If I can do it, anyone on these forums can do it!
Is there any difference if you are not using the MC chtuhla? I desldered the USB cable from tv madcats pad. I then soldered it to the top of the imp. 1d- & 1d+ are hooked to the top of the chtuhla where the jack would go. The madcats pad has power, ground & all the signal wires going to the bunch of holes at the oposite end of tv chtula, & the 2d-&2D+ are going to where the original USB was on the madcats pad. The power & ground from the madcats are hooked to the cluster at the top. For some reason the guide button doesen have continuity to the main guide pad. It works fine for ps3 but when u lug it I to 360 the 4 player lights come on then go off & pressing guide makes the cine off then go back on.any help please.
And you guys decide it’s too much work. Look up Bomberman’s post on the trade forums. He modded my TE stick for me and it works great!
Setup:360 TE Stick+Imp+MC Cthulhu
I followed Faux’s Wiring Diagram completely.
Finished soldering and check the major points w/ an ohm meter and my 360 Stick will not power up.
Have only 1 wire going from VCC on the Imp to Column labeled V Row 1
Have only one wire going from VCC on the MC Cthulhu to the 5v on the 360 PCB
Is there something I am missing…read a couple pages earlier that 2 wires have to come from the VCC…Can someone clarify…?
The first Cthulhu mod I did went smoothly. Unfortunately, I ran into a simliar issue on my second one.
I prepped my second stick for a 2nd Cthulhu board I ordered from Toodles and things aren’t looking so good. I’m using a DPDT switch instead of an imp and I have my power going into the MadCatz PCB with a line wired up to go to the Cthulhu.
When I flip the DPDT to the MadCatz PCB and connect it to the PC it says “Unknown Device”. The stick that works says “Street Fighter IV FightStick”. When I hook it up to the Xbox 360, the guide button powers up and then shuts off.
Let me know what you find, I think I may have been too confident and was a little too relaxed when soldering some points. I wonder if I burned a crucial copper contact or something.
Once I get my second Cthulhu board in, I might be able to run some better diagnostics.
