Ugh, don’t get why people put Gail’s run on a pedastal, shit was mad mediocre and Genocide was a lame as fuck villian. Rucka and Perez runs were so far above that shit Gail put out.
Never say never when it comes to comics. Booster can easily be successful again. Just like any comic, just needs the proper creative team. A character like She-Hulk has been successful in many times through different interpretations, concepts and creative teams. Animal Man is going through one right now.
That costume has never fit her and was made in a very sexist time. It’s very iconic but Diana is a warrior, she needs armor and not to be looking like a “patriotic stripper” as many have said in the past.
Gail’s run was great because she was able to make sense of the weird conditions of Amazon island, and the mystical elements around Wonder Woman that many took issue with in the past. Perez’s and Rucka did well but for different reasons and I think any of the three could be considered the best WW story.
Azzerelo has to be up there somewhere because I like his version of WW and he is able capture her essence well.
See I don’t think a character like Animal Man will ever take off for a few reasons, one being his name is kinda lame and stupid. Those characters have a ceiling and they can only go so far before they peak and I feel Booster has peaked but Animal has a long way to go before he gets to even Booster’s level so we’ll see.
With how long comics are around Booster get another shot for sure but I don’t think he’ll be able to carry a TV show like DC wants him to be able to.
I wonder hows that going anyway? I haven’t heard anything about his potential show in a while.

Honestly I’ve never been a DC fanboy, i’m definitely a fan of their work but I’m a Marvel guy at heart.
It feels like DC is better to watch than it is to read.
There is no ceiling. Any character has the potential to take off. Just a few years ago Deadpool minor character with a small fanbase with limited exposure. Around 2008-09 the character just blew up. Next thing we know Deadpool got four different ongoings, becomes apart of a major X-team and suffers from over saturation on the level of Wolverine. Lesser extent Squirrel Girl. Her return in GLA made her a fan favorite. Character become popular enough for her to be a regular character in a real Avengers book (even if she’s just a nanny).
Animal Man is climbing up the ladder. His new book is doing fine both creatively and in sales. Got a few animated shorts to his name. He good.
Animal man is still really lame, he isn’t the interesting or likable kind of lame either, like Squirrel girl or any of the GLA, or even M.O.D.O.K.
What does DC even have for joke and/or meta characters? Even with the gritty tone, my mind expects at least one more.

You are completely incorrect. Animal Man is one of the best comics currently being produced.
There is most definitely a ceiling for many characters, like for instance Mary Jane will never have her own comic book series. Deadpool had an awesome costume(much much better than Animal Man’s), deep connections to hugely popular characters(Wolverine,Punisher), and was a goof who said pop culture references which made him an internet darling.
Animal Man is way more bland and doesn’t stick out like Deadpool did, DP’s design itself is just incredibly awesome. Animal Man is not cool enough to carry into the mainstream like Deadpool and lacks the goofyness of a Squirrel Girl or Deadpool to make him an underdog favorite.
I still think Vixen is all around better both for this game and as a character with potential to blow-up, she has the look.
Ambush Bug and Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew immediately come to mind.

There’s nothing bland about Animal Man. He has an everyman quality to him that not many DC heroes have. His new book is one of the best ones of the entire relaunch. The success of it is rising his stock. If it continues he’ll will move on to bigger and better things.
Having connections with popular characters means little. It’s a common practice comic companies to sell their audience on a book or character and doesn’t always work. Marvel book “The Order” had a deep connection with Iron Man it the book lasted eight issues. Hawkeye had several attempts at an ongoing book and was never successful. Pop culture references are a double edge sword. Sure they can be funny and what have you but it will lose relevance over time.
As popular as Deadpool is he’s by no means a mainstream character. It’ll take more than comic over saturation and a couple of video game appearances to make him mainstream. Once the guy becomes a household name then he’ll rightly be a mainstream character. Much weirder characters like Swamp Thing were mainstream successes at one point. He can make it than Animal Man surely can.
One thing I"m digging is the animations compared to MK9. They look a lot more polished to me in comparison, I’m actually getting pretty hyped for this

Anyway Swampthing is once again much more unique than Animalman especially with his look and monster/hero thing he has going for him. Animalman is a generic white guy from a looks standpoint which is always gonna hold him back because “why would we do Animalman when we have Green Arrow/other white guy hero who more people know?”.
He doesn’t have the tools to break out like Pool who had a unique interesting yet oddball issue of having cancer and healing factor that you could draw on when in need to endear a character.
As for your counter point about DEEP connections to popular character not mattering all I say is lol, Nightwing, She-Hulk, Supergirl, and yes Deadpool who benefitted hugely from his Cable/Punisher/ and especially Wolverine crossovers. Pool versus Wolverine is how many fans discovered him so many years ago and became fans.
