Since the game’s starting to circulate and is coming out tomorrow, I suppose it’s alright to talk a bit about some things.
For those of you interested in Grundy, you’re going to find he has a very interesting way of rewarding the player for landing grabs. Instead of doing absurd damage outright on the grab, Grundy does pretty high damage but tones it back a bit in favor of letting you pick a buff. If you finish his grab one way (it’s a branching chain throw), you get a long-lasting damage bonus. Do it another, you can improve his defense stat (take less damage from the opponent’s attacks). Another still will let you take less chip damage… something you’re going to be eating a LOT of as Grundy. The grab itself doesn’t do quite as much damage as others of its kind, but you can make up for this by comboing into it under certain circumstances (someone showed me a 44 to 52% combo involving Grundy’s main grab and one bar of meter. The throw itself does around 25-32% if not done as part of a juggle combo).
I really like this idea. Giving the player a long-lasting buff for successfully landing a command throw is the same sort of ‘direct, positive feedback’ a player gets for… say, landing backstabs as a Spy in Team Fortress 2. It’s very much a “YES; GOOD JOB PLAYER, KEEP DOING THIS” thing that makes you feel great and I am fond of that.
You’re going to get a variety of answers on that, and it’s worth noting sometimes these things massively change on/around launch day. It’s really best to ask once the game has been officially on the market for a few days, so that we see how the game works with a large, active player population on it all at the same time.
i would really like to see poison ivy, black canary, or that zatanna girl that everyone’s talking about, but i don’t really have my hopes up for any of them. where is that DLC reveal and final battle arena fight, anyways? usually the video is up in the morning.
Yeah so I called a bit after making that post just to be sure after hearing horror stories about stuff missing their release dates almost constantly. Customer service lady told me “yeah its confusing the way its said on the site, let me check” In short the site said arrives by 4/16. But was still processing. Anyway I was on the phone gave all the info, she was like “well its still processing and has not been shipped yet, so its definitly not getting there by tomorrow” … mmm ok -.- … She goes to check some more info and tells me “hmm on our warehouse list this item wont be shipping out til the 18th so yeah sorry you wont get it by release day it will probably get there by the following week if not the week after that” fuck that noise.
Im only in GA and its shipping from AR so yeah dont know why it would take that long. But they fucked up and im not paying them money for it.
Cancelled it, and that went through/got my funds back about 30mins ago. Im not sure what will happen with yours but hopefully it arrives on time bro.
Yes, its on playstationblog that its listed in the PSN update tomorrow. Just wondering if its going to update early like the last few times or super late lol, they never say. Hopefully the game will be searchable since the content sometimes updates early but the store front does not and you just have to search for it.
From what I know you wont get an online pass from their rentals. If you buy it from them though you get the online pass, even on used games. (they are great place to get used games. when i get from them the game is almost in new condition just not wrapped.)
I don’t recall seeing an online pass. Was never prompted to enter one, and haven’t seen any leaflets for them in retail copies other people posted pictures of on various sites (mods were requiring people to submit proof they had a legitimately obtained early copy before letting them talk about the game, see).
This is a good thing. Online Passes are just hostile to the customer, and it’s great to see a highly publicized, licensed game release not using one. Now… I never thought I’d see the day where “basic respect for consumers” is noteworthy, but here we are.
i’ll be quite honest, i think people are overreacting to black adams divekick. like alot of his moves, his divekick has a down-forward trajectory. despite its alleged safety on block, it doesn’t look that safe on whiff. so if you neutral jump (or back jump for some characters with appropriate tools i.e. wonder woman, sinestro, superman i think), any black adam player wrecklessly spamming divekick thinking they won’t get punished will eventually have a fat neutral jump combo waiting for them when they commit predictably. (not too sure if his closed-ranged divekick (he does have two divekicks right?) is any different than the distanced one property-wise, so we’ll have to wait and see)
as for pig advantage, quite a few characters look like they shouldn’t have too much (if any) difficulty dealing with it. killer frost and batman have slides to go under it (flash has slide as well, but not sure if his will work), ares and raven have teleports, doomsday has meteor smash/trait, shazam has teleport-dash, grundy has zombies that may lock him into an animation upon contact, supers, etc. there’s some other stuff that could potentially work, but you get the picture.
oh yeah, i sincerely hope people don’t start whining about interactables and that they should be banned in competitive play (unless they genuinely create a problem, which i HIGHLY doubt). i personally think this game will be ALOT less strategically deep and interesting without them.
I want to see how things play out with interactables and transitions too. They seem interesting so far, though I admit I’ve seen some pretty silly stuff with them in specific circumstances. Maybe they’re fine as-is, maybe they’ll be fine with tweaking, maybe they need to go. Too early to tell yet, but their inclusion definitely helps establish one of those things you always see in superhero media; they use the environment around them. Even the old 90s X-Men cartoon had that.
I definitely hope they work out (or work with tweaking) though and that we embrace them as a major part of the game. I like the idea that you are picking a character and stage to compete with, that you’re saying “I think THIS level helps me more, or denies you an advantage.” It’s a neat extra factor to have to think about.
wow, how disappointing. i guess i’ll just wait for tomorrow because i’m curious to see what happens. don’t know how much i’d trust a random lady at the store. i actually have emails of the guy telling me it will be here on the 16th, so i’m not sure how that will work out for them if i got it later than that. i mean, it’s not like i’ll take them to court or something, but that’s a gutsy guarantee on their part.
i’m not even really* excited* for the game anymore because nrs have already spoiled all the gameplay with their trailers/pax stuff. i just want to play it already. i already know my main’s special moves, strings, etc.
^ yeah thats my usual kinda approach to ordering games online. I dont care when they get here, but when im planning on playing with friends… I want it asap.
But it will suck for me if you guys do get it on time, which would be good for you guys! I did not exactly enjoy MKvsDC when I rented it but a freebee is a freebee lol. Could care less about skins that are not lantern colors either haha.
does anyone know if doomsday’s sheeva stomp is redirect-able, like sheeva’s? if it isn’t, i was thinking it might be pretty easy for raven to anti air grab him as he’s coming down; if it is, she still might have a option select with her special moves like sindel had against sheeva.
