New issue of the comic is out, with a Red Raven, NRStastic Captain Cold(Armored Parka and gun) and normal Rogues and a few other villains.
Raven and Cold being the only ones with real redesigns
OK…is that even a thing? I know they technically came from Midway and all of that but, has NetherRealm been out long enough for people to say they have their own style?
Yeah I’m nitpicking, just bored because there aren’t any matchups happening this week…
lol how did they not end up putting Batman’s red son outfit in and instead gave grundy the ushanka?
also, I wish the characters would talk more during fights. I understand this is MK style “huh! agh! ha!” vocals, but getting Kevin Conroy as the Bat and then not really have him say anything is ;w;
Yeah. Blocky, inexpressive faces, muted colors, and an extreme desire to be grim, “hardcore,” and “mature,” but compromising it by having its characters engage in over-the-top cartoon violence anyway.
That’s what Story Mode is for. Thanks to that in MK Scorpion had more dialogue than he did in MK1-Deception. You’ll hear plenty of the Conroy.
But I do kind of agree that they should talk a little more. Not shouting out their moves like “The Rival”, but more banter during interactions wouldn’t hurt. NRS was going on the right path with the X-Ray moves in MK9; Kitana and Smoke had a few words after their connected with theirs, and I wouldn’t mind seeing it expanded to the Super Moves in Injustice. Even better if they were character specific (ex: During Hal’s Super, he could say “And THAT is the END of Solomon Grundy!”)
Here’s a cast sheet. Everyone who’s not the Joker (Catwoman and Harley Quinn barely qualify as well) has the exact same facial expression. Costume colors are also notably more faded than most of their counterparts in other media.
But MK is very colorful and campy, and in now way has it every been “grim” “hardcore” or “mature”.
It can get a bit serious with the story mode sometimes, but as a whole the devs and the games have always played it self very silly.
Injustice is the first time they have ever really gone away from that.
The “NRS” feel that people describe is usually very armored up and over designed characters that look like they are from the 90’s.
So…because they all look like they’re ready to fight, their expressionless? Honestly, I’ve seen fighters on Tekken look the same way. Not every character should be portrayed in an action pose showing extreme emotion with a ink blot or watercolor background.
