Injustice: Gods Among Us; New Game by NetherRealm Studios

Thank modern religion for making our species’ most basic instinct its biggest taboo. Anything with a sexual cannotation is automatically the worst thing possible, regardless of intent or result. Not to say rape isn’t bad, but the notion that a character born out of rape is obscene but a character born out of genocide is righteous is absurd.

Just when I was all excited we were talking about how cool Deathstroke is…

Just to touch on the discussion about magic users a page back, it would be nice to see Constantine or zatanna included considering their current push in the new 52. On the note of slade, can’t say I’m surprised by his potential reveal but I’m annoyed by how long these reveals are taking.

It is kinda ridiculous how little they have shown about the game.

I don’t even mean reveal trailers, they just refuse to release raw gameplay, the closest we have gotten is the Superman vs Flash and Batman vs Grundy from EVO, and that was just showing off features. Just give Gamespot or IGN like 5 or so raw matches from devs so we can see some actual competent play, its not like it would fuck with the marketing schedule.

This is completely backwards to how pretty much every other fighting game promotes itself, but I guess when it comes down to it, NRS are kinda in a unique position where they don’t really need to market there games that much, just put Scorpion or Batman on the cover and people will buy it.

That is absolutely retarded.

Especially the second post.

I have no problem with the female Red lantern’s backstory since it makes perfect sense why she’s so angry easily drawn into Red Lantern in exchange for power and vengeance.

Normally I disagree with everything Mendis says but what Kevin Smith did to Black Cat was terrible and I have a hard time taking him seriously ever since.

It would have been one thing if the character had no background before hand or a vague one but BC’s background was super positive for many female comics fans. So for him to twist and taint it all in the way he did was just unneeded, lazy, and terrible.

He could have at least made the story good but why bother when you have weak plot devices like rape to fall back on.

I’ve mentioned this before, they really have to have so much confidence the game is going to sell well. It takes all the pressure off and only have to really worry about making the game fun and balanced.

NRS are really in a lucky great position with so many popular characters under the WB banner to make games with. It’s almost unfair to other devs haha.

The game still has several months in the oven, and you generally want to make sure that official releases look completely awesome / completed.

Batman is one of the worst beloved characters in comic book history.
Probably the worst character.

You may have Batman, one of many heroes who don’t kill, because that’s a bad thing, but in the Batuniverse you have someone like the Joker and all the other crooks who kill on a daily basis, often simply for the sake of the fun. They overshadow everything Batman stands for by far.
And Joker and his alike continue do to so, over and over again. Batman catches them, puts them into Arkham, they break out and continue.
The Batman comics are a pure mess, since they’re the most un-realistic ones out there, even though they’re trying to be the most realistic, because Batgod is supposed to be a peak human, the pinneacle of what a human could become with dedication and hard work.

I grew up with comics. I started reading when I was 8 years old. I REALLY started reading when I was 12 years old and in the year 2010 I stopped.
I’ve read many comics and I’ve followed their transformation.

It went from kid-friendy to … fucking’ Blob eats the Wasp, Ant-Man bites Blobs head off and Magneto breaking Xaviers head in one single issue (if I’m not mistaken).
The all so friendly and funny Plastic Man was killing people from the inside, being all covered in blood in the process and smiling about it.
My childhood role-model Spider-Man getting his eye ripped out and eaten, also getting beat to death afterwards and dying (twice) in one story.

Yeah, no one gives a fuck about murder anymore, especially if you consider that most of the people like horror movies and probably often not for the sake of cheap scares, but for the violence and the sicness.
The best selling game franchise is Call Of Duty, even though it’s a shitty franchise that earns Activision so much more money than they actually deserve every single year. And in Call Of Duty all you do is to kill - kill easy and fast, because the game is n00b-friendly.

You may not like murder in media, since you’re mainly interested in fighting games, but there are people whose interests are all over the place, when it comes to media and that media is full of violence.
Murder is an acceptable violence, especially in the comics, where everyone returns back to life anyway (except for Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy and Sentry :frowning: …).

Rape happens and it stays.

I like All Star Batman where he doesn’t give two shits about crippling a guy and abusing kids. Batman with that style of mind doesn’t need to kill you. He just needs to make sure you’ll know what he can do to you while keeping you alive.

Problem with Batman is that 9 writers out of 10 treat him like he’s DC’s Wolverine.

That is in no way a good thing.

I still don’t see why violence being so widepsread, to the point that you’ve not no one batting an eye at mass murder, doesn’t apply to rape. Here you are going ‘Rape should never ever happen ever’, but you don’t mind that no one gives a fuck when Spider-man gets his eye eaten? What the fuck sort of shit is that? If neither is actually handled realistically, I don’t see why either would be a problem. It just seems like a huge contradiction, especially given that murder is the worse crime in reality.

You don’t see people getting raped in every single action movie out there, but you do see people getting killed in every single action movie out there.
You don’t see people getting raped in games on a regular basis, but you do see them getting killed in the most brutal ways on a regular basis.
The same applies for basically every thing that has to do with regular media.

Rape is a way too sensitive topic to be brought up on a regular basis, just to shock the people who are watching the media.
Obviously it’s not the same for porn and so on. I’m quite sure that there are a lot of people who have rape fantasies and watch badly written rape-porn (but now we’re moving into the wrong direction).

The problem with violence and rape, is that - even little kids grew up with a certain amount of violence. Let’s take the Simpsons as an example. How many young kids are watching that show? How many are watching the Simpsons Halloween episodes, which are beyond brutal from time to time and also the bloodlusted Itchy & Scratchy mini episodes within the Simpsons show? Many are watching it.

How often do you see rape in the Simpsons show? Never.

Accept it, rape isn’t a part of the pop-culture and it should never become one. Not even for the sake of shocking the readers / viewers with something.
When it comes to violence? Well, it’s too late for that, since we’re already way pass that.

Never said that. I was shocked when I read that particular comic where Morlun busted up Spider-Man and beat him to death. I did not expect something like that.
It was harsh but Spider-Man got his revenge and came back stronger.

Did you read that comic? Are you a Spider-Man fan? Did you ever read Spider-Man comics at all?
Not that it matters, but imagine being a comic book reader and a Spider-Man fan.

You know who Spider-Man is and you know who Mary Jane is (who she was to him back then).
She got her hand broken, while she was trying to protect him from Morlun. That is violence, but you can accept it, when it happens, since it happens and there is not that much you can do against it.

What if some asshole comic writer like Kevin Smith comes along and decides to retcon Mary Janes past and let her be a rape victim (by Eddy Brock alias Venom)?
I would rather see some people die in comics, than see yet another comic book character getting raped for the sake of something very, very, very debatable.

Too much stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid rape moments in comics:

Rogue? Raped.
Batman? Raped.
Nightwing? Raped.
Ms. Marvel? Raped.
Sue Dibney? Raped.
Black Canary? Raped.

I could continue man :-7

It sounds like your problem is more with the retcons than with the actual rape, to be honest.

Also, my first sentence was pointing out the irony. I’m aware people bat their eyes at rape. I don’t get why it doesn’t get treated the same as violence.

When did Black Canary get raped? The only thing that upsets me about rape in media is how weak a plot device it can be. It’s the go to terrible circumstance for a female character.

Because it’s not as common and not as acceptable as murder.

Murder = most people die very fast in the media (movies like action and horror & games)
Snuff = torture that leads to death … that’s also a sensitive, harsh topic as well and not many people enjoy something like that.
Rape = Is a longer process in media like movies and a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad decision in media like comics.

This may sound weird now, but … murder is neccessary, rape isn’t.

**I don’t know if any of you are into comics, but if you are … be sure to check out “Absolution”. I think it’s from Avatar Press Comics. **
The story is about a superhero-cop, who follows the law and doesn’t kill, but he has a huge problem with the law, so he takes it into his own hand. It’s brutal and it’s brilliant.

It was implied in the story Green Arrow story “The Longbow Hunters”.
Just the way it was implied that the Joker rapped Batgirl and that Rogue was gang-raped by a bunch of soldiers.

But then you have the writers, who realize how fucking stupid and disgusting they are and back away from their decisions: "No no, there was no rape there, even though I decided to have the women lying there naked and shattered on the ground!"
Hell, even Apollo got raped and for revenge Midnighter raped Apollos rapist with a percussion drill.
Oh man, comics nowdays.

**Let’s change the topic guys! **
Too much rape in this thread and not nearly enough Injustice.

The writer of that story confirmed no rape took place. It was never meant to be implied either. I can see how people can come that conclusion seeing a naked woman being tortured.

Even implying it is more than enough.
People see it and they realize that something happened. Most go for the worst case scenario and how many of them are using Google to find out about the writers opinion on the story?
The writers extended opinion is never canon to a story, since you don’t see it happening in the comic.

Seeing a naked, beaten up woman in a comic … It’s just wrong. Maybe it’s okay if it comes from some certain publishers like Avatar Press and their Crossed franchise for example, but the big names like DC and Marvel? They have to take their young customers into consideration, or people who are not specifically searching for that type of comic books like you would expect it from someone who buys Avatar Press stuff.

So, in summation; Violence good, rape bad, retcons worse.

Has anyone seen any clean screen grabs of the movelists?

So you start a discussion, almost everyone disagrees with your opinion/doesn’t understand your opinion in some way, now you want to stop the discussion? Then someone replies to you and you reply back keeping the discussion going.

You are a silly person.

And you’re one who supports rape.
Three thumbs down.
