I find the background guy in the gif distracting and I have no idea why.
Fuck, now I cant look at that gif without looking at him.
He sort of looks like Combofiend actually.
Mendis needs to look at this

NRS was no different in their development for MK9. Scarlet was on the disc in a very incomplete state.
I want you to know, I tried to let it go. I did. But the ignorance is staggering and I’m drunk.
a) release dates are set by the publisher, not the developer. Smart publishers give their devs a wide berth, and lock the game down into a revenue stream or market opportunity after it appears to be going smoothly. This is why Injustice’s release date is just 2013. Dumb publishers set their dates before the game is even feature locked, and remain unflexible when crunch time goes poorly. This is why SFxT was a fucking trainwreck.
b) once upon a time, dlc was a labor of love undertaken by dev houses with resources to burn. Then consoles got online and now it is free money. Publishers like free money. Rest assured, no matter how many characters NRS pumped onto the MK9 disc, dlc was coming. Would it have been better if they delayed it until July when Freddy was finished, and then released it? Cause that’s what the GOTY edition was for. Smart publishers do that too.
c) If a company elects to spend extra money to get exclusives, their “rival” is not at fault for failing to match their offer. Capitalism says you can spend your money where you want. Some chose not to. You can see where MS’ bread is buttered cause they fight tooth and nail for CoD exclusives. Otherwise, Xbox sku’s sell about even regardless of sony throwing money at Ubisoft and EA and WB every damned time. If there’s a dick involved, its publishers for taking said blood money, but again, capitalism. You throw that out, you throw out sponsored players, sponsored streams, sponsored tournaments. What idiot turns down free money?
This DLC won’t be “Day 1 DLC” to clarify and would fall under the category of “Post-Release DLC”, which is what I’ve been trying to get across.
Off topic comment: I don’t feel that chart represents games like SFxT, though. All the “DLC” in that game falls under the main production cycle. No changes were made to the characters, and under those circumstances, it’d be ridiculous to think that the locked characters received any less testing and balancing. Also, the notion that the alternate costumes only being in “pre-production” during development is laughable.
I only mention that as a lot of comparisons have been made from NRS’s DLC format to SFxT’s locked character shenanigans.
Anyway… I’m glad this game will have post-release development. More characters are always a bonus, regardless of compatibility issues. In the case of post-release development, those characters could have never existed otherwise.
I’m really wondering … do you guys actually know that if a game costs 60$, that these 60$ don’t go to the guys, who came up with that game.
**You guys do know that, right? **
These guys maybe get about the half of it. They get 27-30$, while the rest of the money goes to the retailers and the gaming manufactury. That’s a FACT.
Then you have all the used games and the publishers don’t see a cent from them, since the retailers keep all the extra money. Then it starts getting nasty …
1. Publishers come up with pre-order bonuses. Why? Because these pre-order bonuses make the game more attractive. You as a gamer consider pre-ordering it and with that you don’t wait extra 1-2 weeks to check out the reviews on the game and maybe skip it, if it turns out to be bullshit. It’s also an indicator for you to actually buy the game new and they make more money out of it.
2. Online passes. What’s up with them? Often the publishers decide to take a part of already finished content and lock it, so that you have to unlock it with an online-pass. If you buy the game used, the key will already be used and you won’t be able to play a part of the game. And sometimes it’s quite a huge part of the game and PROTOTYPE 2 is the perfect example for it. While PROTOTYPE 1 offered everything for free 3 years ago, few months ago Activision really, really raped the gamers, when it came to PROTOTYPE 2. How?
They were telling you that you have to pre-order the Radnet Edition to be able to play the exclusive content. They told you that the Radnet Edition is limited and that you should hurry. Well, they lied, since there was no pre-order-bonus. The Radnet-Edition of the game was the regular game, but just with locked content that you could unlock with an online-pass. So you were tricked and you instantly pre-ordered, while not even having the chance to wait for a price drop. And then they additionally came with DLC shortly after.
3. Downloadable content / disc locked content? *The easiest way for the publishers to wallet-rape the stupid customers and Capcom is probably the one company who abuses that the most. Do you actually realize that the full version of STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN costs over 140$? Keep in mind that the PS3 version of the game offers you more content and that X-Box 360 games still costs more. I personally would have to spend nearly 170 EUROS (that’s a lot more than 170 dollars), to buy the game completely. *
They finish the content. And they sell it to you afterwards to make more direct money from it. You don’t need any freakin’ sources or whatsoever for that. You simply need a brain, no matter how big and how developed it is. You simply need one and the rest is up to you. Use it.
When it comes to fighting games it’s really even more of a special case, since they tend to offer you fighting game characters als DLC and that is totally not the way to go, since as Harada said it: “Characters in a fighting game are like chess figures to chess”. You can’t skip them, since they’re way too essential.
It’s easy to play a RPG and skip additional content, but it’s not that easy to skip 2-3 characters who can change the game drastically and especially if we’re talking about fan-favorite characters who you simply don’t want to miss.
And with all that, when you download them, you’re not able to simply take the game with you and play the full roster if you’re visiting a buddy. You can’t rent the game and play the full roster.
It’s simply the wrong way to deal with fighting game DLC.
The best way to handle DLC for fighting games, or actually any game at all, if it’s pure DLC that is only there so that the publisher can make more money … it should be visual stuff.
You don’t need game designers at the end of a game. You simply don’t. The last few months of the production of a game are programming and polishing. The designers sit around and look good, yet they could try to come up with visuals for the characters and that can be sold as DLC. There are a lot of people who really like alternate costumes, or sunglasses on their characters heads / small kittens on their shoulders and so on and they would buy that stuff. Other people would buy it, if they feel like it. But everyone HAS to buy characters, since you’re missing out important stuff. And especially if you’re a tier-whore and that character turns out to be good.
And in the case of NRS…
**They’re not telling you when the game is going to come up, but they already know that there will be downloadable characters that you have to pay for? Why not waiting 2 months longer (since the game is probably not going to come up in November / December, but now I’m just guessing) and offer you the full package? **
You know why.
I like that Mendis said he was wrong. Because he is.
In the end of the day it’s all personal preference.
If you don’t have a problem with spending over 80-90$ on video games, then please, feel free to continue doing that, but try being polite and take into consideration that there is a chance that you’re being abused by the industry who is forcing you to pay more money, than you actually have to.
Or they could do something like AE and sell the update at lower cost to those who already have the game while at the same time, selling a standalone disc release with said update to those who haven’t bought it yet.
Because developing for two more months costs two more months of operating costs with no additional return. Game development is a business, not a charity.
…and wow, you really don’t know what a designer does, do you? They’re not just ‘brainstorming guys’, they create content, write script/code, endlessly tweak UI. If the project doesn’t need us near launch time, then I have a lot of 'splainin to do to my wife for all those late hours I worked during crunch.
**
In the words of Super milk-chan, You dumbass! It’s retailers that drive pre-order bonuses not publishers. The first part of this video explains this in detail
**
That’s the whole fucking point. If you want everything buy it new and it won’t be a problem. This one of the few new policies I have little issue with.
**
DLC is usually develop by a separate group of people on the same team, working on it’s own budget, deadlines and tests and certifications. Since NRS mentioned they’re DLC will be post-release that means that content will begin development when the core game is in it’s QA phrase which would be too late in development to make any major changes and additions without delaying release.
Wonder woman’s dash is crazy fast
I am pretty sure Boon said they couldn’t meet their original headline, so Warner allowed them more time to continue developing the game, so taken a “little bit more time” was probably out of question.
I like how people fell into Mendis’ troll trap again after everyone argueing with him now already agreed back then that he didn’t know what he talked about.
By reading one of his posts you have already lost by taking the bait. Just sayin, I can’t believe people got sucked into the same trick twice.
Marcus is not a good person to trust, when it comes to such things, since he is probably the most biased person on the GT team and runs with his head through walls. I would rather believe Pachter, or hell even TotalBiscuit.
And now I want you to think, since you don’t understand the concept. The pre-order “bonuses” are there so that you buy the game new and that you buy it as soon as possible - before the reviews come out, which could make you not buy the game.
Just because one or two freakin’ games like Assassins Creed 3 or Tekken Tag 2 Unlimited have various editions which you can purchase from various retailers - doesn’t mean that all the other games, that have one pre-order “bonus” that you can get from every retailer - have been demanded by the retailers.
Yes, there are retailers who request special content for a version of the game that they have in stock, but most of them don’t give a god damn **** about that and that’s the reason why you also see something like that pretty rarely.
The retailers are making more money by selling used games, than selling new games and used games and pre-order “bonuses” that require an online-pass? Meh.
The fact that retailers keep the money from the used games, is the reason why the publishers are abusing the system as much as they can. They don’t get a percentage of the used game sells and they have to search for ways to earn more money and DLC is the prime example for that. With DLC they can overcome the piracy, the used games market and so on.
That’s a great video. Finally some Wonder Woman content.
Yeah, her dash is fast, but her walking speed is probably going to be horrific.
It’s similar in MK9. Sektor dashes very fast, yet he crawls as slow as a snail. And Reptile walks fast, but dashes slow.
