Info on Changes to Guy in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade!

Looks like the devblog is out. Here is what I understood of it based on google translate and use of my highschool japanese.

  1. Crouching weak kick has damaged has been changed. and i think it says it now functions like it did in ‘3F generation’ (what does this mean?? )

  2. far standing MK comes out quicker

  3. far standing mp hitbox is slightly improved and recovery on whiff is better (not 100% sure on this point)

  4. on EX run, shadow kick now beats projectiles and the run-stop of the ex-run now has hyper armor.

  5. Overhead is now 2 hits and gives +5 frames on counterhit?

  6. Super combo damage has been increased, the full combo should also hit in more situations

Overall comments were that Guy has been strengthened overall and that everything you can do with him in SSFIV can be done in AE. Basically i think they were trying to say that Guy’s playstyle has not been changed.

Also, please take everything with a pinch of salt. I’m not 100% confident on these translations but i tried my best.

One of the main things I was looking forward to was if they gave Guy a solid poke.St.forward looks like one of Guys best pokes in Super because it has good range and is stuck out far from Guys body,however the ass startup time meant it was crap at whiff punishing etc.Now that it comes out faster we should have a very solid(abusable) poke like every character needs in this game to survive.

Basically it will be like Alpha 2 again.This is delicious!

Even though you might not be 100% accurate with your translation, I’m sure everyone here appreciates it. While we wait for someone who has a better grasp of the Japanese language to translate the blog post, I can’t help being really excited. Everything you’ve mentioned sounds awesome (it almost sounds too good to be true).

interesting, hope we get a complete translation soon but it seems they fixed him up a bit and improved his footsies. Would have liked faster walk speed but w/e…also, no new moves??? that sucks. Wish Ono wouldn’t lie about that

@samkiken- thanks for translating even if you’re not entirely sure on what some of the stuff means. super being fixed is a big plus in my opinion. not just the damage(which is great because canceling/juggling from ff chain really made the damage it did complete ass)… but the fact that it’ll hit more consistently and not whiff on some one like honda anymore.

i’m not sure if i read this correctly, but does it mean run stop from EX run has armor now? if that’s true… HOLY SHIT at that. TC xx EX run stop U2 becomes a SHIT TON scarier, as well as canceling st. strong into EX run stop safer. and i’m really glad st. forward comes out faster… i use that a lot for spacing and to keep people out. also… is shadowkick runslide? i never know use the actual names of his moves. if it’s run slide… does it go under projectiles now?

this is looking like a REALLY good set of buffs… throw in fixed TC… guy’s really shaping up… and looking a lot more “complete.” thanks again samkiken… truly appreciated.

Shadowkick = runslide.

However the sentence that says that talks about shadowkick literally says " shadowkick (from ex run) is invincible to projectiles". In my opinion its likely that it means that shadowkick can now go under fireballs.

if run slide goes under fbs, we can just do run stop from a distance to fake out, and if we see a fireball, then slide instead into untechable knockdown and start bushin mix ups. Good to hear about his super as well as it’s fun to cancel from TC. I think he’s solid now, can’t wait to play him and watch what others can do.

only things that i think will make a big difference:

  1. st.mk
  2. run xx slide goin under projectiles
  3. TC whiff fix

the other stuff may have a few uses, but i dont think they will change his game very much. basically we are going to have the current build of Guy, except he one more way around projectiles (like he doesnt have enough), an actual move that has some range for footsies, and a non whiffing TC. ive gotten accustomed to TC whiffing so it doesnt give me a lot of problems, but it will be nice to know it wont whiff anymore. overall the thing im most psyched about is his st.mk, and im not SUPER excited about it, it will just be nice to have. im just really hoping a bunch of people dont jump on Guy as a bandwagon character for some reason…that would suck

I forgot about hp hozzanto being faster aka useful as well so there’s a lot of improvements in general that will solidify Guy. I’m just waiting for some gameplay to confirm all the buffs.

finally armor cancel on wakeup is safer!

Guy:

  • c.LK’s damage decreased, and its start-up is 3f now
  • Far version s.MK has faster start-up and less recovery
  • Far version s.MP’s hitbox is buffed a bit
  • F+MP overhead now does 2 hits, and is even on hit
  • His EX run follow-up timing is now same with his non-EX versions. Also, his EX run -> slide has projectile invincibility, while his EX run -> stop has Armor (<- Not sure what they meant on “EX run follow-up timing” stuff)
  • Super Combo damage increased, and fixed some issues of it whiffing on some characters if done after a combo

wow… i never would’ve thought they’d give him a 3 frame normal as it wasn’t entirely necessary. but hey… sounds good to me haha i won’t complain. also i’m guessing it doesn’t do 10 more damage than cr. jab now and is probably the same amount of damage as his cr. jab. like i said before… i’m really happy with his super doing more damage and not whiffing hits anymore. that irritated the shit out of me as i use that super at least once per match. it’s an incredibly useful super.

guy is going to be a beast cr.lk already has great range and making it 3 frames is going to buff him a lot.

yep, from all the buffs we’ve heard, I’m really happy with how guy turned out. They improved his footsies, fixed his problems and buffed his specials, super, and U2. I don’t even care about the damage as long as the properties of these moves are improved, which it seems it has. Good Shit.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Guy improvement thread. I hope it was cause of us that Guy got some of the buffs that he did. I think the majority of Guy players are content with all these changes.

so thats what the ‘3f’ thing meant ahhaha… i got most of the translations right i think. A 3 frame normal is pretty big for Guy and I have to agree that super being buffed is also a huge thing seeing that I do try and land it alot.

Can’t wait until AE comes out, too bad I live in Australia and arcades kind of suck around where I am. I’ll probably have to wait for DLC to come out…

what do they mean ex run slide is invincible to fireballs? it always was…and EX run-stop has armour? didn’t it always? I really wanna see him in action but that will probably happen when AE releases.

The only way that’s gonna happen is if someone pulls an inthul or gamerbee at a major tourney, and the chances of that happening is pretty high I’d say.

However, if we got more characters then there’s a smaller chance people will pick guy, especially since he’s not that easy to use and doesn’t have an uppercut fadc move. I wouldn’t worry about it too much lol
