knyghfall: I think you guys should run the tourney too. Those guys had no idea how to run this thing properly. Stopping people in the middle of a match is just unbelievable! I felt like we ran things more than they did!
id like to say nice to meet/see everyone again and i had fun and i hope to see you all come out again.
You already know.
Not only were they stopping matches, they were walking in front of players during official matches.
When they ran the Halo 2 - Guitar Hero 2 - Madden 07 - Fight Night Round 3 tourneys they brought everything (tvs brand new systems - all the software, etc.
For this tourney they didn’t bring JACK SHIT.
Yes, we will be running the tourney next time.
What up what up. Despite the obivious lack of a coherent tournament structure, this was exactly what Indiana needed. I kinda knew it would turn out the way it did before I left, and I came anyway. It can all be improved over time. And, despite the crazyness, I had fun. It was good getting in some good matches against different people (a rarity nowadays it seems).
For the next tournament (which I know will go down) we just gotta get it structured. The location is great, and the movie screen is no joke. You guys have a great marvel scene (if not very cable-centric I might add), so you guys should mature it. Get like bi-monthlys, going or something. You could even throw it on the arcade cabinet you got if you can’t get that room all the time. I just say mature it, and get it off the ground. We might be looking at the new midwest superpower, and never knew.
Til next time…
Hey everyone, Brent here (the Spiral/Cable/Sentinel guy, not the Gameworks employee). Ok well I wasn’t going to say anything bad about the tournaments because I didn’t want negative publicity getting out but since it’s already out and it sounds like there is an obvious remedy (just let Gameworks run it) then I am fine with it and I also can’t wait until the next tournament, especially with SSF2T even though there will probably only be like 4 players for that but whatever.
Obviously I still don’t play MvC2 so not much has changed since my one visit to you guys from long ago but at least you’ll be holding 3S, ST, and CvS2 is another game I don’t play but I’m better at that than MvC2. I just don’t get MvC2.
I certainly enjoyed my time at Gameworks again and perhaps I’ll make another visit on some Saturday night but if nothing else I’ll do my best to make the future tournaments.
Cool, cool. I’m glad everyone had a good time.
Nunez: Once again, ggs. We have got to get together and play some more matches sometime.
If not before then, I hope to see you at the next tourney. My MSS has got a lot of work to do before then
L8r ppl. Cool meeting all of you.
Damn sounds like i missed some marvel goodness. when do you guys play usually, and when do you plan on having another one of these here tournies?
Hey Dereklearnslow: If you need a ride to the next tourney let me know. I should be able to give you ride down there if you need one.
Yea im quite upset i had to drop early and my rowtron wasent up to par:sad: but mabie i’ll run it at the next tourney but blackheart diddent appecate his loss and he’ll be back with a vengence:nunchuck:
Good games to everyone at the tourny. Was definately fun, despite having to kinda get me and gary to run the brackets heh. You guys in indy have a good scene goin on, and if you guys start some biweeklys or somethin like that i can say that ill drive up for em. Next time Ill have to get there early to check my equip before the tourny heh. And also the tourny should be on a regular tv, coz I’m not sure why, but on the projector, nothin was workin for me. Anyways
Floyd - Good games, was fun to get a little revenge on you in casuals, also what was that guys website where you got your stick? coz thats one of the best sticks ive ever played on
knyghtfall - youve gotten better since last time we played, and if you ever want to get something together with me and dave and such, let me know
Mario - Fun as always gettin to play you on 3rd. Use tick throws more lol
Tim - Nice meeting you finally, good match with that remmy
Fort wayne crew - glad you guys made it, next time gary needs to come down with you early ray so that we can hit up sports the night before, sorry i never saw you guys there, good games all around
Everyone else good games as well, im horrible with names
the guy who made the sticks i have is dreadedfist on these forums as for the site
http://home.comcast.net/~dreadedfist/ and his thread on tech forum is here
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=35226&highlight=dreadedfist
btw if ya wanna use my stick next time we have a tourny just grab it i dont care
Hey trampy, could you also tell me the specs of what you had him do to your stick, coz thats what im gonna end up tellin him, like the box size, stick type and such. Thanks
That is some nice stuff but damn is that expensive. I went through and added the prices together with the parts I would want the the box size I wanted, added shipping, and it came out to like $175 or so. That’s worse than MAS sticks. Good grief!
Hey Floyd, do you still have an Xbox Live account? And do you have a 360? I was looking through the thread about the DreadedFist sticks and I saw your old account (or at least I’m like 99.9% sure that had to be you). I thought you could show me some tricks of the trade at UMK3 or something.
Yea, Nunes those were some good games. Too bad we didn’t get many in.
Brent- Okay, Oro is officially the most frustrating character to play against now. When you canceled the chicken combo and dashed behind me just to start it over, would I have had to parry that.
Tim- Fun matches. I need to learn CvS2 so I can enter more than one game now.
Alpha wouldn’t be a bad edition, depending on how many people would prefer it maybe we could substitute it over cvs or turbo.
Mario - No, you don’t have to parry any part of that. It doesn’t all combo, it’s simply a reset much like you’ll find in MvC2.
Actually I think all the players that attended should learn this because honestly I don’t remember anyone stopping it except once (Mario you threw me once) and I was trying to mix up the reset but had I kept it simple you probably would have gotten reset again for trying to throw, but you made the right choice that time. :wgrin:
This is for all the Indy crew and whoever else was at the tournament, not just Mario. Ok so the deal is close standing medium punch, cancel after the first hit (so the 2nd hit doesn’t happen) into his medium kick chicken scratch thing (the head stomp thing), repeat the one hit of medium punch canceled into medium kick chicken scratch, and then this is where the games begin. There are 3 options from here…
- repeat the one hit medium punch and medium kick chicken scratch one final time, and the combo is over
- if you have your super meter full (with SA 3 Tengu Stone) do the one hit medium punch canceled into EX Tengu stone (qcf x 2 + 3 punch buttons), then combo away with mostly standing hard kicks and f + medium punch backfists
- reset by doing standing jab, then dash quickly to get behind them and they might block the wrong way so you can start the entire combo over again, or if they expect that reset then after the jab delay the dash so that you still stay in front of them and so they block the wrong way and you start the entire combo over again
I hope that makes some sense. The fact is if the timing is right you can throw me out of the reset or if you guess correctly which way to block then blocking is the answer. Of course parrying is always an option too. If anyone doesn’t understand this please write back on here or private message me or something. Or some of my Fort Wayne and Bloomington buds can help, they know exactly what I’m saying. But don’t feel embarrassed for not knowing this kind of stuff. It’s a learning experience and I think, among several other reasons, that holding tournaments like this regularly are good for the Indiana scene to learn and grow stronger together instead of being all seperate and out of touch.
— edit —
Ok I just read all that and as usual what should be a quick message turned into a book. I’m bad about that. But since I started the book I will finish it now. This is the other tactic some of you saw me do with Oro alot. What happens when I knock you down? It’s one of three things…
- if I think you are going to block high when you stand up I’ll do crouching medium kick and combo into hcb + hard punch (the move where he slams you back and forth 3 times) and trust me when I say this combo does nice damage and nice stun which of course leads to big hitting combos that can end the match (see #2 from above off the standing uppercut)
- if I think you are going to block low when you stand up to prevent #1 from happening then I’ll jump towards you and as quickly as possible (I’m right over your head by now) I do the hard kick version of mid-air chicken scratches (qcf + hard kick) and then continue mashing the kick buttons so that he continues to stomp on your head on the way up for 8 hits
- if you’re a little too good at predicting me from #1 or #2 then I’ll do the next best thing which is just throw you so you can’t block (preferably just the neutral throw where Oro chokes you with his legs) which obviously isn’t an Oro exclusive tactic but it’s worth mentioning
Again, please ask if you don’t understand, or comment, or whatever. The Indy MvC2 scene might grow quickly from here and so it would also be nice to see the 3S scene grow with it too! :bgrin:
Vega: Well done. I don’t play the game, but I understood every word.
I may have to pick up Third Strike too. I got to admit, I felt kinda left out
Nunez: When I find a tape measure, I’ll give you the dimensions of the box. As far as the parts,
I think both sticks have a standard PSX Digital PCB - P360 Stick - Convex Competition

I spoke to the GM and he is willing to allow us to use the Winners Room for weekly casuals and such. We only have two tvs right now (you saw one of them) , but when we fix our old big screen tv we can use that too.
The only catch is we can only do this on Wednesdays or Thursdays (he prefers Wednesday) and everyone needs to buy something so he feels like we are generating revenue.
He is also fine with us using the Theatre for our Monthly tourneys, but we need to clean it up afterwards.
We got bitched out because it was a mess when my friends and I left that evening. I’m not blaming anyone for this at all. I’m just stating that this IS ALL HE WANTS IN RETURN. Hes not charging us a dime for using the room.
Just show him we appreciate it by buying something from the snack bar. :wgrin:
FOrt Wayne, Bloomington, Chicago, I’ll keep you up to date as best I can. Peace.
Wednesdays or thursdays lol, kinda makes it rough bein as me and dave have work/school n such, but at least its an option. Honestly I wouldnt even care about if it was like3-6 fr us or whatev just playin at someones house. I know if you guys ever wanted to come to IU, me and daves place is always open for gamin, plus we can hit up the bars here if thats your scene too.
Btw brent, you can throw a shoryuken in at the end of the combo to end it too, and also you can do 2 hit on the mp if you cancel into tengu then go into j roundhouse, land rh, its just a different variation
If anyones interested in learnin oro, i suggest checkin out hung b. 's videos. Seen him perfect a few people with oro, by far the best oro ive ever seen, tho brents is gettin better each time i see it
Trampys Arcade Stick
The dimensions are as follows:
18 1\2" L x 11 W x 4 1\2 H
the tall end of the box is 4 1/2" in height, the smaller side 3 3\8ths"
PSX digital PCB - P360 Stick - HAPPConvex Buttons
Buy it from Dreaded Fist. He is the best stick maker on SRK imo.
This is one of his earlier models anyway.
Nunez- That would be awesome. Plus it’s not that far from here. i had a blast last time, plus I need to see more of this infamous IU bar scene. I’m getting tired of Broadripple.
Brent- I almost want to learn Oro now. I’ve watched several videos of Dirty music. Wow!!! He gave Kokujin a beating. Urien is still who I feel like I play the best even though is still struggle with midscreen unblockables. I’m going to try and pick up CvSNK but i don’t really know where to start. Tiers? Strategies? I will probably require your expetise at some point.
Knyghtfall- You should definitely learn it. 3rd strike is one of those games that is extremely deep but it’s easy to follow. Marvel on the other hand… I just think learning it after playing 3rd for so long will be fairly frustrating for me. It’s so fast. It’s like streetfighter with controlled ADD. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I felt left out too, you guys looked like you were having a blast playing Marvel. I quit the vs. series after Marvel vs. capcom 1 although I really liked it and xmen vs streetfighter which I happened to like more.
