looking nice for an early installment bruddda like the beat em up look the game has and the AI seems quite decent considering you only got a couple of characters going here
Fix the friction/velocity so she dont appear to be sliding. Thanks for people pointing this out, hands on, she feels alot more grounded, feels more fluid, and the impacts on the hits feels much better.
Also revamp the stage and added a bit more detail to it.
Gameplay looks alright but those models… geez. You really should’ve spent more time brainstorming concepts.
By “more time” I mean any time at all. It just looks like you went straight into developing the game and picked up any Poser3D models you could find for characters.
You’re entitled to your opinion. I have concepts, just focusing on gameplay for the most part. “Most” of my time have been focus on coding, there are more features I’ll like to add, like re-implemented tag system down the line, but I can’t risk it at the moment. But thank you.
not that your really much to go on when it comes to model, concepts etc seeing as you dont get into anything that is not original/unique clearly told from your amazon anime ladies. Although the models could do with some work they do fit the dark streets scenario vampire boxer and what not. Also gameplay first over everything unless literally other elements of your game are offering unbelievable quality elsewhere and my guess would be no indie game is offering better models, graphics and the like over any new age commercial fighter anytime soon. The only indie fighter I can call that is offering a godlike element of the game to the point where no other is near it or catching up anytime soon is Cerebrawl which music/soundtrack is a millions miles ahead of any fighter even the majority of games in general.
I don’t understand what you mean by this. I don’t get into anything that is not original? Why would I? Unoriginal things are boring.
You say “gameplay first”, and I really do understand that sentiment but at the same time I don’t agree with it. It’s not that simple. In order to have a game that resonates with people who haven’t played it yet you have to have appealing graphics and art direction. It doesn’t matter if you have a game that rivals Mario or Zelda in game play, if the graphics look like an amateur student project then no one is going to want to play it.
I’m not trying to be mean. I just know graphics are super important.
I don’t see the point of going back and forth after this but I’ll keep it pure and simple. I’ve put work into my project coding, animations, particles(FX), concepts, bug fixes, music, etc. I’m a solo game developer,I’m not using that as an excuse, but I’m going to invest time, manpower, and money into what I can afford, I don’t have any funding, so I’m going to play it by ear and not cash in all my chips on this, because their are other genres of games I would like to work on as well. If the game doesn’t get on steam, I’ll just focus a mobile port, and move on to another project. It’ll suck, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. If it get greenlit and the support is there, the game is going to bloom, I can focus on facial animations and the little things that count and more on top of that.
I’ve always had a deep passion for fighting games, and knowing how much time and effort it takes to make it. I’m not asking for a medal or anything. I still decided to still tackle such a project. After Mvc2, Cvs2, 3s, and arcades died out. I haven’t really been active, like 99% of my local scene. This is something that got me active again FG wise. Also, yes gameplay is important to me, I want to make something fastpase, fluid, and fun to play. I get it, everything has to be serious, and and have it’s chest poking out, blah blah, blah, but that’s not my cup of tea. Oh and I get it graphics matter, although some would like to be hip and scream it’s “not” all about graphics, nowadays I know it definitely is the case. So, I get it, but again I’m not going to cash in all my chips to a handful of people who share your views. Remember what works for you, might not work for 30 other people. Also, I’m not trying to rival any other fighting games, especially with bigger budgets, actual teams, marketing teams, etc… it’s unrealistic and not worth it. I don’t mind your criticism, but hey the game is not for you, and plus can’t make everyone happy.
Oh man, the nobodies are coming out to dish out the sick burns. Even though they’re based on nothing and I haven’t actually said anything offensive. Don’t give yourselves aneurysms thinking up these zingers, guys.
Thank you for being more understanding than these jokers. Keep in mind I’m not trying to say anything deliberately mean. I’ll be happy if your game finds its audience on steam. It’s like you said though, you start out doing it for yourself, and if it resonates with people, that’s good; if not, well, it’s not the end of the world. Since you seem committed to getting better art in the future I’d love to see where you go with that.
I am saying that it is not the case at all. Nothing needs a completely outrageously unique look or design to be appealing and if graphics mattered that much there would be alot of games that never got looked at. Also I never said you was trying to be mean relax the emotion I am just replying to the comment you made and with an observation of the person you have shown to be
But they can and do matter, and there ARE a lot of games the never get looked at, show me a single successful game that didn’t do the best they could with their graphics.
Why are you now wording it the best they could with rather then it beings essential/neccessity. There are plenty games from all strands from shovel knight to dungeon denfenders that were not about graphics what so ever nor were they unique or original in the art/design in any way, I mean rah League of legends looked like shite for absolutely ages and still only looks a bit better then what it did. Big game companies will almost smash you out of the water in every other element especially graphics with the exception of gameplay which is what people want to play and the reason indie has made hard movements on the scene in the first place. Like I already said the models could do with some work but they do fit they bill at the very least including with theme and concept and most importants the gameplay is looking a great for a start so big up to man like @skitz. If you want to continue the conversation about it @PSYCH0J0SH whisper me instead cause we are getting off topic here.
What the hell are you talking about? You picked the absolute worst two examples for your argument. Shovel Knight has AMAZING graphics done by mega-talented artists, they specifically chose to do NES-style graphics because those graphics are beautiful and have huge appeal if done right. If you knew ANYTHING about NES-style graphics it’s that they are not at all easy to do correctly, and you absolutely HAVE to know what you’re doing in order to make a game look like that and capture the graphical style of the NES. If they didn’t know what they were doing then the game would have looked like shit. They would never have been able to pull off such an authentic look without seriously talented art directors and music composers who knew what they were doing.
See, as far as I can tell, you don’t even seem to understand what good graphics are. And that’s what confusing you.
