Yes sir…It was fun dude…I was doing tag team…Shit felt good again…
bonfire/get-together at my house labor day night…
all the working monkeys like me get the day off so i figured why not… the same rundown as always, everybody is welcome… I’ll have some beer and games to play (my house has AC now btdub) … and then of course im gonna set a fire in the backyard… call/msg me if you wanna come through
Speaking of Arsenal’s pizza, I might have inspired a new pulled pork pizza. I’m not a fan of their pizza honestly, but the pulled pork is awesome. It has some potential.
I wasn’t sure about Robo Ky. I like the character, but I’m not sure if he fits my playstyle. I like characters that can play lame and harass people outside of close range, and set up some safe offense when need be. That seems like Venom, Axl and Testament to me. May could be alright, but I just don’t like the character.
Also whats the best way to get a stick for the ps2?
trading outlet has some pop up from time to time.
Faust also matches that description very accurately. In my opinion he is one of the easiest characters to play, and at the very least he has some of the easiest execution in the game. His only useful input of any real difficulty is something like a plink in SF4, but probably easier, that lets him cancel his dive kick into air blocking so he can land a quick jumping attack as an overhead, and it’s not important at all for learning the character. He has no commonly used FRCs, links, relaunches, jump installs, etc and his BnBs are pretty simple. I used to main Faust so I know a lot about the character if you should choose to go that route.
Of the characters recently mentioned, I would list them like this by initial difficulty, easiest first:
Faust
Robo Ky
Testament
Axl
Venom
Axl might start entering a bit into the realm of significant difficulty and Venom is certainly tricky, but the rest should not be too bad
Dizzy might also fit that character profile but I’ve been playing her so long I have no idea what to say about her initial difficulty level.
edit: apparently Arc System Works is making a Persona 3/4 fighting game. i’m not sure i like the idea, they could have at least expanded it to the entire persona franchise or even the entire Shin Megami Tensei franchise and get some interesting stuff like Digital Devil Saga characters who can transform between human and monster forms
At the very least it might have all the characters with their personas which could work like stands in jojo’s bizarre adventure
I do like Faust. Guess I’ll start practicing with him to learn the GG system, and I’ll shelve Venom until I’m a bit more experienced. You’ll have to show me some of his stuff next Monday.
Oh believe, me, I know you’re not attacking me, you’re one of the coolest people around. (From my limited experience anyway) and I know you LOVE 3S. I guess I’m still in the early learning stages. Learning basic combos, getting bodied by stuff I haven’t seen, I mean I imagine this is what it is like to play a LOVED 10 year old game and starting out, either you’ll take your whippings and learn the old fashioned way or you’ll play something else. I see the appeal of the 3S engine and I see why the game is so beloved. I’m playing Akuma right now, and I really enjoy playing him and I can do some simple combos, but I’m relying so heavily right now on footsies and zoning (which I’m doing in a way which is probably making bad habits for this game) it’ll just take time. I think honestly, if I get a chance to come down one day, I’d love for someone just to say, hey, let’s learn 3S from the ground up. But it’ll take time. I’m thinking about switching to Yang and learning him more. I think the character I’d probably be best with is Chun but I have this allergy to top tier characters…
When you’ve got your opponent cornered with Gouki; a meaty air fireball can lead to devastating ground mixups. You also want to avoid low forward, lk tatsu outside of guaranteed punish situations. Mix it up with low forward roundhouse tatsu and low forward demonflip mixups. This should help you beat out the guess parriers out there. Against big characters, his fireball is great at midscreen, just make sure they don’t have a move that can blow right through it on reaction.
Yeah I find that I really enjoy pushing people to the corner and then watching them jump at me at eating air fireball into air super confirm… It’s pretty hilarious. I have to say, I do feel like I’m improving. I played Chun a little bit last night… I felt dirty… I mean even I can hit confirm cr. forward to super… I still have A LONG WAY TO GO on parrying but I feel like at least on a very basic level the game is starting to make a little more sense, but I think I’m going to stick with Akuma… It actually feels… natural in a way and I’ve never played Akuma in any other SF game but its fun. If anyone wants to help me level up, add me on XBL PLEASE
This is your reminder that tomorrow is the Fighter x Shooter Qualifying Tournament at Galloping Ghost Arcade. Forum thread here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/t/sep-1-2011-galloping-ghost-arcade-x-focus-fire-a-fighter-x-shooter-qualifier-brookfield-il/132161unread
If you’re going to be in Chicago on Thursday, please come by and compete. Top two in each game (AE, MvC3, MK, and 3SOE) earn free entry to Fighter x Shooter. There’ll be other prizes to give out as well, including some great stuff fresh from PAX.
Hope to see you there
If it’s something by ASW, then I’m buying it. I’m looking forward to Shoji’s older and possibly new stuff. I don’t know much about Persona but count me in as slightly hyped.
Damn, I forgot the password to my old account…
So, uh, are a lot of you guys going to Season’s Beatings? It’s time to get my ass out there to a major, I’ve been waiting for far too long. The thing is that I can’t drive anymore for a while for reasons that I’m not free to discuss so I’m either going to have to car pool like a mofo or ride the bus up there. I’m hoping that I don’t have to resort to the latter but if push comes to shove, then I’ll have to go with it. I can’t drive at the moment and that’s why I haven’t been to Arsenal in a minute and probably won’t be going there for a couple more months. I’m saving up some money for this event and I’ll pitch in for the gas and other expenses of course so please let me know if you wanna let this dude ride with y’all.
Yeah the Persona 4 game fighting game does look interesting. If it doesn’t come to USA I can always port it, and see if I can find anyone to play with lol

This has a couple of screens from the game.
I wouldn’t mind playing this…
Yo GG talk! I think we’re playing saturday at AL in cincy, with possibly another gathering coming up before October if I can find a place/time that fits people’s schedule. I really don’t have much to add to anything Kyle has said about your character choices. Of all the characters in his list, Venom and probably Axl are in most need of representation around here.
I should mention that Testament is a very good character and once you get down his relatively easy combos, you can pick up a lot of free damage in a lot of situations. I play Testament, but I’m like the only one around here that mains him I think.
If you really like Venom, and you’re going to be learning the game anyway, I’d like to advise just starting out with him. Few people ever end up switching mains in this game for some reason (probably in most games now that I think about it.) There’s a lot of fairly easy gimmicks you can learn to get by with him for a while until you get the more intricate ball summon setups down. If he’s not clicking with you, that’s one thing, but the more I’ve been around and seen people ask about good beginner characters, the more I’m thinking you should just pick who you like and try to learn them.
man that Persona 4 game does look cool… i know nothing about Persona… like, at all… but with Arc making it, that’s good enough to check it out … if we get it around i’ll play just to see whats up… what was that other game linked a few pages back? the freeware one?
pulled pork pizza?.. Patrick you are a genius, i never doubted it… if we get that on the menu I’ll get atleast 2 everytime i come to the arsenal… and on that subject i’m about to start a new job, that’ll have me working 9-5 like a real joe… so once i get started i’ll be at the arsenal every week monday and friday… the future is looking up gentlemen
yo indy or mario can one of you ask Andy how the University Plaza hotel rooms are for me?.. if their bigger than RedRoof or have like a kitchenette im gonna switch my reservation so we can all hangout at the same place for SB
I main testament in reload, just I never touched him in accent core…lol From what I heard, he doesn’t play that much different, so I heard…If that’s the case, then have no problem adjusting to him…
I can personally vouch for it now, it is fantastic. You have to ask for it by name, it’s not on the menu. Only thing I’d change is add onions next time. Oh, and add a thicker crust, but I can’t do much about that.
Thanks for the GG feedback doragonkoroshi. My background is SF, and I usually recommend that new players learn the game with Ryu, since he teaches you so much about the game (zoning, footsies, when and when not to reversal, etc). In GG it seems like every character plays completely differently, so you can’t really do that so much. I got to play around with venom a few nights ago, and I think I may just stick with him for now. He seems difficult, but it seems likes it’s more about about knowing setups and ball angles. My execution is horrible (“yes I totally meant to do that instant air jab”), and I could play him fairly comfortably, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve got a few basic ball setups to allow me to apply pressure, and I’ll likely just stick with that until I learn a little more. He’s a lot of fun though, I like having a few tools that you can use creatively in a lot of different ways. It’s just going to be a lot of practice.
This is the single greatest idea ever.
Leaving for arsenal now, hopefully we don’t get stuck in the small room
