Indianapolis, IN: We do play games, I promise

Been playing 3SO for three days straight now. I have one simple question:

Where has Denjin Hadouken been all of my life?!?!?! Love that thing.

Edit:

I’ve only gone through the trouble of renaming, then uploading my replays once, but here’s the only one that I’ve done so far that I can easily track down on the official 3SO YouTube page:

TOURNAMENT THREAD CLICK!!!

hey just curious if any of you guys are going to Fighter x Shooter this weekend? Fighting games (3SO, MK9, MvC3, SSF4AE, arcade ST, etc.), shooting games (Black Ops & Reach) , the new Madden 12, and a huge mystery tournament. all sorts of good stuff very close to home.

i have a code that offers a discount off of the venue fee. You just need to enter this code when you check out at http://www.focus-fire.com/events/fxs and as many folks as possible can use it. if interested please hit me up with pm… err… “conversation” here on SRK and i’ll gladly get the code to you ASAP. i was kindly asked to help promote the event so i’m just doing my part.

pre-reg signups end soon, this Wednesday, August 31 is the final day to pre-reg. if you don’t pre-reg you are not only going to be unable to save $ with my code but you also end up paying like double the price at the door which is silly to do. pre-reg and letting me help you save $ is the way to go. hit me up in a convo!

ggs tonight Rob, Kyle and Mario. I need to work on not being terrible at marvel. Thanks for showing me a bit of GG Ephraim, I’m gonna get my PS2 back so I can practice a bit before next Monday.

Also, I talked a bit with Bill (the guy that works at Arsenal) after they closed tonight. Arsenal is going to be closed on labor day, so we’ll be at Arsenal on Wednesday next week, same time as always. He also mentioned that he’d like to see more people ordering food when they come. For the most part, it’s not a problem and they’re happy with what they’re getting, but he discussed the possibility of having a minimum order price of 3.00 per person when we come, for the people who don’t order food. He doesn’t want it to happen and I don’t either, so fair warning.

aw man… i really wanted to go on labor day… the holiday only working stiffs can appreciate… i was gonna hold a 3SO round robin tourney or something to celebrate… damn

oh btdub… me Kei and Gmac played around with the settings and dip switches for 3SO (like you can do on PS2) and we totally broke that game… in a good way… we basically made it MvC-thirdstrike-SFxT-KoF … we’re calling it SF3 NapStrike edition… we made it so i was able to combo a magic series in 3 EX tatsus, then the shoryureppa … pure gold…

Maybe in your SF3 NapStrike Edition some characters won’t seem completely useless… Of course I still am struggling with 3S. I see the appeal but I get stuck in old habits so I poke and I get parried and I get blown up by simple hitconfirms to supers… and of course despite my now training on parrying for hours and hours, I still can’t parry for crap so I basically don’t parry at all in a match which means they can poke for free and I can’t… you don’t win much that way

Ya, it is important to stress that Arsenal is not charging us to play there, but they are expecting us to buy food as a way to generate revenue, so guys please do so to keep the owner happy with us being there.

no prob man, and not that I necessarily recommend it b/c of the time commitment and learning curve in general (other characters are less strenuous to play), but here is the Venom sub-forum http://www.dustloop.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?29-Venom

Yeah, I may want to pick another Ryu-type entry level character to learn the fundamentals of the game; it’s quite different from what I’m used to. I’d still love to play Venom, I have fun with him and that makes all the difference in learning a character.

If they’re parrying you like that, then you need to mix up your attacks more. The thing that differentiates 3s from a lot of SF games is that there is usually never one go to answer for any situation. You have to apply your tools based on the situation, your tendencies and your opponents tendencies. Its all about style matchups. I wouldn’t focus too much on guess parrying which is what you’re alluding to; its a slippery slope and not the correct way to play 3s. For now, work on your spacing and mixup.

Well I’ve been playing 3S for two days so I have no idea what the “correct” way to play is and I only know basics right now so I’m working on it, I just am REALLY struggling to get the hang of this.

3rd strike anime edition

Had fun playin’ doa4…Miss the good ole’ times in 2006/07…lol

Kyle and Ephraim- ggs in guilty gear. Sorry for the scrubby gameplay. I need to learn accent core, because i’m using reload combos and pressure…-_- Shit aint workin’ well…=/

Yeah wasn’t trying to attack you or anything, its going to take some time. Anything in particular that you’re struggling with?

yeah i could try sometime. my schedule is pretty hectic because i work two jobs now. its whats responsible for me being in hiding. i should be on 3SO sometime this weekend.

If you don’t order anything then you are basically loitering and that might ruin it for the rest of us.

Bill said that our regulars are pretty good about paying for something, so it may just be that we need to spread the word a bit better. We don’t want to pressure new people that are just checking our meets out, but if you see someone coming that regularly doesn’t order, just politely remind them. It’s ok to just get a drink or dessert or something, but we need to support them like they’ve been supporting us.

I’m guessing Robo-Ky is also a bad beginner character too, right?

Exactly…they’re letting us play for free afterall. I don’t think any of us want to go back to the days of either playing at the arcade on busted sticks or random meetups at our homes.

Robo-Ky is complicated/ zoining type of meter build character , I say. All of his combos, pressure game, and game play relies on straight meter, and a lot of false roman cancel for good pressure usage. In Accent core, he has the same combos, just different timing I realize yesterday, and his pressure game is gone, unless you launch his ground rocket first. Overall, he’s not bad to start off with, just gotta know his bread n butter, and his cheap tactics to zone n get in as well…

the Arsenal has a pretty good deal on food imo, and they definitely do us good by letting us play there so i always try to order a pizza or a pitcher of tea or something, not only cuz im hungry but to help out… but the pizza is bomb … Ricky gave em some free press in his vidlog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dEWvt10ZnM

that Yatagarasu game looks pretty fly… is it freeware right now?.. i gotta check it out

aw… i missed DOA?.. that’s unforgiveable

Could be worse. You will run into some hard things here and there with everyone in Guilty Gear, it’s just a matter of how soon. I would say Robo Ky is at worst a medium difficulty character, the hardest part is adapting to his somewhat unusual move set and unique system mechanics that apply only to him (manual meter gain and overheating gauge), and he has one relevant FRC to do his most damaging BnBs but that’s not too much different from a link in SF4 (possibly easier).

He’s way easier than venom at least, that’s for sure. He has high life and a heavy character weight that can make it harder for opponents to combo him easily.

Also if you are looking for a good charge character that would be May. One counterhit j.H from her is a free meterless 75% life combo, she probably generates the most salt in the american GG community
