If Evo cant find a bigger venue in Vegas and Evo is constantly growing then adding a 4th day so everything is spread out
would be the most beneficial.
Evo is the biggest FGC tournament in the WORLD. Expecting it to run smoothly in 3 days is ridiculous now.
Just Call an assist like Sentinel on most any stage or do anything that’s big and flashy, on most any stage the game slows down big time.
no, not yet
I think the problem with ccc2 was that the game “felt” slower, the frame rate was not an issue. It had to be proven through a test so the results were indisputable. It really is hard to say that the game feels off and there is no proof other than player opinions so I can see your perspective.
However the case for umvc3 is that the game on ps3 just runs slower\worse because it has trouble processing the game which can be seen visually. A direct test would only tell you how much worse it was running, you don’t actually need to do a test to know there is a problem because its clearly visible. It really is like the DC\ps2 versions of mvc2 where the ps2 port just couldn’t run the game properly so it ran it slower with more lag in it. Any mvc2 player could instantly tell you through a blind test whether or not is was on ps2\DC. Did we have to run a test to know ps2 mvc2 was garbage? its no different IMO. Its that easy to see.
Even if we had indisputable evidence, which we clearly have IMO because the problem is really easy to notice, is that enough to actually get a change in the system? what would the evidence exactly do to change the current situation?
i know you didnt need special equipment to see the lag on the vanilla version of the game, but i dont have any time on ultimate on PS3 but its kinda crazy to hear they havent fixed it. when a big name like viscant is complaining about it i think its taking the piss a little bit. the games should be played on the best system to play them on, not because of who pays the most money etc etc.
anyway, a couple things i think should be looked at…
- Live commentary on finals day.
this was my first EVO, and ones ive seen on streams before that you assume that the commentary is happening right in the room, but was pretty disappointed there was nothing for the people in the main room on the day. commentary is one of the big hype builders for these games and is an integral part of the experience in my mind.
- more casual stations.
i had grand plans to play casuals on a fair few games this year, skullgirls, marvel, maybe some AE too, but in the end i think i had like 2 games on Divekick, a bunch of skullgirls casuals after the tourney was done, and about 10 games of sf2 (because it was there with noone playing it.), all in all i got a lot less games in over the whole weekend than i would do in a decent 2 hour sesh on XBL or with a friend. i looked at the AE and marvel but the line was so big and since it was winner stays i didnt bother as i knew i would get bodied (not played much for a while)
So record that on Xbox 360 and PS3 side by side and demonstrate it conclusively. :\
IIRC, y’all got really lucky because I’d seen Lunch Rush dropping Kobuns on the PS2 version and kept pointing to that when people insisted that that wasn’t the case. That was lucky factual data, versus “opinions” which are easily discarded/ignored.
Easy to see != proof.
Is EVO required to use the PS3s (IE, Sony sponsors), or is it a matter of having more PS3s around rather than X360s?
Heck, I’ll bring mine next time.
Wiz has already confirmed that the PS3 will be the console of Evo until the next gen system arrive…
there is what mr.wizard says, and there is whats right
playing on shit ports is not right and its never been right. Quality @ EVO used to be an issue, what happened to the authenticity?
It was never a secret that marvel was going to be on ps3. If you want to win, you should probably practice on the version they’re using. People just like whatever they’re used to. I’m a PS3 player and I don’t have any issues with it. Frankly, I find the Xbox version to be laggy and slow as hell but that’s probably more due to the convertor that I’m using. Also, I heard that lag was mainly an issue on the stream stations. Regardless, the tournament is on PS3 so practice on that version and get used whatever the differences are. They’ve given out over a year of warning in advance so players don’t really have an excuse.
no, people care as to what the most accurate port is. Its not about what I like personally. For me, its about playing on the most accurate port possible especially when there are glaring problems between the 2 systems.
so what umvc3 is on ps3 every year? that doesn’t change the fact that port is awful does it? why do you guys expect to learn marvel on the worst port possible? Its like saying ps2 mvc2 is going to be used @ EVO, better get used to that crap. CCC2 will be used @ EVO for half a decade for ST, better get used to that crap. cvs2 is going to be on xbox1 this year, better get used to that crap. What happened to using the best port possible every time as the tourney standard? There is a reason over 90% of tournaments for the last 2 years use x360 marvel over ps3, its because the community pushes for the x360 port because it runs much smoother.
and if the difference was like sf4 where it was 1 dropped frame every 200 frames between x360\ps3, I wouldn’t really be bitching about it. That difference is so minuscule it really doesn’t affect the game play but for marvel, the difference is so VAST between the 2 systems that it needs to be changed IMO IF they care about authenticity.
There is extra slow down present on the ps3 that is NOT there on the x360 version. This causes many problems to arise. The game slowing down so often forces the general tempo of the game to be slower. It also affects combo timing, punish timing, XF combo timing, push block timing, tech throw timing, and even spacing timing. Not to mention that this “slow down” is so bad that its present even on the most bare bone of stages standing still.
i’ll have to figure out a way to test it to convince the rest of the community but almost every good player can visually see the differences between ps3\x360 marvel. I think when the game starts having a fit graphically when you pop XF and stand still, there is a big problem with the port.
I feel that the reason most tourneys are on Xbox is because that’s the version that most people own. That certainly seems to be the case around my region. I’m a PS3 player and I feel that the Xbox version is way laggier and I drop shit on it all the time that I never drop on PS3. Whether it’s an issue with my converter or with the version itself I don’t know. Regardless 90% of my local tourneys are on Xbox360 and I just have to suck it up and deal with it. Evo has clearly stated that the games will be played on PS3. There’s no arcade standard to compare the game to so I find it hard to accept that one version is supposed to be the most “accurate port”. I can buy that argument for a game like mvc2 or ST when there is an arcade standard that the ports are based off of but when it’s a console game, I don’t think it’s a legitimate excuse.
You have no clue what it takes to put on an event like Evo, so your fanboy is going to have to take a back seat. There is no way in hell we are going to use two seperate systems for an event. That makes zero sense. Also, your claim of 90% of tournaments using xbox is also wrong. Hey guess what, the other 4 games at Evo run better on ps3. Tell Capcom to fix the ports on ps3 if you care so much. BTW when playing UMvC3 with friends, I have yet to see slowdown or any xfactor stoppage during any kind of play. It actually sounds like you have a ps3 that needs to be formatted or fixed, or that you dont have one at all and just like bitching.
Either way, stop your comments unless you have some proof, because you arent being informative at all. If you dont ill just send you packing, and you can go troll on eventhubs or gamefaqs.
Evo 2013 will be on PS3. Start practicing now.
The only thing that disappointed me this year was the real lack of casual stations that were there the year before.
Other than that everything else was ok…minus my common complaint about Evo being on PS3, but hey what can you do?
The thing was there wasn’t 30 stations for SF4. Because on Saturday all those stations were in use for the Marvel tournament. There was literally 2-3 stations for SF4 and a couple people were making it a single game instead of 2-3!
Also if you have been there the year before at the Rio, there was a ton of casual stations. The Focus Fire booth had dozens of set ups and there was still plenty of room for the old school games. This year the casuals were almost non-existant on the main floor, but that is the problem with the venue they could get this year more than the staff’s fault.
Im curious as what will EVO do for the BYOC section for next years evo? From what ive heard, this is the last year EVO will be supporting CRT’s.
So anyone who wants to play old school games on dreamcast or ps2 better find their own solutions I guess.
Somebody needs to be helpfully awesome like NK and go make some comparison videos showing it in action, and then be passionate.
If you’re awesome, reply back “Hey I’ll go research this and provide some technical data” at most and then later on post up some comparison videos in Tech Talk or someplace more appropriate for starters until we can get some general confirmation. But even then – what happens if things switch around before next Evo? If you change the world now because of some random bug(s) in one(?) game that they fix / doesn’t matter any more before next Evo and then you have a similarly bad bug on the Xbox next year: wtf do you do then? Considering how much nicer Sony is than Microsoft about patches, this is entirely possible and almost happened for MvC2.
In the case of SF4 they have hard evidence that PS3 has a delay. That’s been done to death.
Mean Xbox 360: 4.09 Frame response
Standard Deviation: 0.588 Frames
Mean PS3: 5.56 Frame response
Standard Deviation: 0.504
Or an average of 1.5 frames slower.
No, today it’s because it’s SF4/MvC3 have 1 frame (now it’s apparently tested at 1.5 frames) less lag on Xbox. If you remember basically all major tournaments were Playstation 3 until maybe 2011, when a lot of tournaments started using Xbox A:) Yes because there are more out there, but mainly B:) It’s the version players say they prefer. A lot of players would practice at home/online then come to a major and start missing shit, so that’s when the talk about looking into lag came about.
MK9 is still standard on Sony; so are Tekken and Persona because those are what those communities prefer for their game. DOA will be preferred on 360. KOF is either seemingly.
If you can you it’s best to accommodate what the players most want to play on. In fact at Season’s Beatings this year we’re doing using both systems because our equipment provider, Console Combat, doesn’t have 30-40 of the same system, so SB is scheduled around system usage and each community gets their preferred system.
EVO is way too big to be able to consider player preferences. It just sucks for all the players who just play on Xbox if the Playstation 3 port is that bad. No sense complaining tho cos it’s clearly not changing.
Tell the people booing others when they are playing to be quiet. Good example, Mago vs Noah, that shit was stupid. The dude booing Mago was obnoxious and flat out rude. You can be salty all you want but if you are going to sit there two rows back and boo as loud as you can you need to reevaluate yourself.

I have to disagree with this attitude. If you have a valid complaint, I believe you should always voice it, regardless of the potential outcome.
Dude that happens every time Noah plays and the other guy is winning. That’s become the Evo standard.
Last year Chris G was getting booed hardcore for knocking Noah out of Marvel.
For KOF, Tekken, and some of the other games they run fine or better on PS3. Its just the Capcom games that run worse on PS3.
To be honest KOF has one of the better mutli console ports since I can’t tell the difference most of the time when playing on both. The only oddity PS3 has is that sometimes at the order select screen the game slows down, but in actual game play there is no problem I have seen. I can still hit my HDs and everything.
