Why the hell would someone do that at a video game competition?
Geez…
Why the hell would someone do that at a video game competition?
Geez…
Five pages and we still don’t have a lot of details about actual major incidents. I know that name calling isn’t what we want here, but I’m actually curious as to what caused this policy?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for friendly trash-talking, games would be boring without it. But I’m talking about bitter, unsportsman-like stuff, like I’ve seen in some Dark Prince-Clockw0rk videos. That’s not fun, that’s just unpleasant.
Well, I’d like to consider myself a very competitive person and I’ll admit I let my emotions get the best of me when I lose (still tryin to work on that. lol), but I agree that the whole BS of personal attacks and hostility has to go.
Hmmm I only read the first 3 1/2 pages so if I’am repeating… deal with it,lol
I think both sides have valid positions but nobody is listening to each other. Obviously event promoters have the right to try to keep the place safe. Thats why you have security…
But the other guy has a good point. You have no right to tell players how they can converse with each other. You guys don’t know every player and wouldn’t know if someone was joking or not with a comment to someone. What if I said I was gonna beat the hell out of someone when I see them at Evo on here… and that person happened to be a friend of mine who I often joked with like that? Would I get banned by you?
Your taking the entirely wrong approach to enforcing your rules. All your going to do in the end is drive people away. Just because someone doesn’t say something offensive online doesn’t mean they won’t be idiots at Evo. Just like someone saying stupid stuff online doesn’t mean they will be stupid when they are there. Because we all know people usually act one way online… another way in person.
Sorry but the only thing you guys can do is handle situations when they happen. Someone takes talking trash to far and tries to get physical then have security throw their asses out. Thats pretty much all you can do cause you aren’t going to be able to stop every dumbass who comes from being a dumbass… but you can throw their dumbasses out when they start being dumbasses.
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, baby! Raiders!!!
So you suggest alowing fights and knives and hoping nobody gets killed or hurt before security can take them out, right?
Of course your suggestion will be a good way of losing Toyota Sponsorship and al the money that helps fund Evo. To keep a few players that make threats online happy, we will f*** everybody else. I’d rather be with the srk staff on this one.
Evo is a big event. Perhaps you can handle things on a case by case basis at a smaller level, but once you get to the place Evo has gotten you have to start using general “no-tolerance” rules. It’s a pretty small sacrifice for the pluses of big events: convenience, competition, and comprehensiveness (and I swear I didn’t just choose those words for alliteration’s sake).
Nice strawman argument. Yes I want knives and stabbing to happen. I want people to be mamed and killed. Oops! guess I’am banned for Evo2k8
Try reading what I actually said. I made NO suggestion. What I said was the only PLAUSIBLE thing I can see people doing is addressing issues as they happen… which from what I’ve read is what happened to begin with.
You can be with SRK all you want if it makes you feel good saying so. I have MY opinon and if someone disagrees or not on a internet forum I don’t really care.
So is MLG and we rarely have problems like these (at least from all the ones I’ve gone to). When people start doing dumb stuff they are addressed… I don’t see why you two disagree but it doesn’t really matter either way.
I seriously doubt people come to these events NOT knowing the rules… or at least common sense rules (no fighting, stealing etc). You can preach about the rules all you want but its not going to end every single conflict that may happen. Everyone knows stealing is not allowed… but every evo theres phones, sticks, iPODS etc stolen…
competitive environment + money = drama. Someone acts like a dumbass then security tosses their ass out… you can’t make it any more simple.
just ban DPC n mike chaos already. who the hell wears sunglasses inside a hotel? what an idiot. all that talkin’ and none of them placed top 8. Let your skills do the talkin’ not your mouth.
Maybe im behind on this, but does anyone know why the ban was lifted?
I mean, if you are gonna go so far as to ban ppl for theats, and mention of weapons, why unban them just for hype?
I can almost guarentee the first person to get banned for some shit like this is gonna be pissed, if for no other reason than that DPC was allowed back. I know I wanted to see the MM, badly at that, and I wished that he hadnt been banned when I heard.
But when I heard he was un-banned before this years evo even took place, I was kinda surprised.
If your gonna go so far, to try and make this behavior to costly to be replicated, why the double standards? Evo has hype, evo will always have hype, they couldve done the MM anywhere.
As far as ppl generalizing the Marvel crowd as the source of the thuggery, I dont agree with that.
I’m with evo staff on this one. Shit got way out of hand this evo and I can name numerous incidents where shit talking escalated into something else. There was a lot of hostility and the zero tolerance policy is the way to go for a big event like evo. This is coming from someone who has been in the scene for years as a competitive player.
Some of you need to refrain from posting at all because you have no clue what you’re talking about and you do not understand why policies are enforced. This isn’t a debate so keep your childish arguments to yourself. Face it folks, there’s a lot of scum trash at videogame events. The FG community isn’t exactly a classy bunch so as unfortunate as it may be, you need extra rules to protect the integrity of the event and the welfare of its people.
btw, when are we getting our checks?
I dont know if you were referring to me or not, but, I actually do agree with the evo staff on this, I never said I didnt.
And on the contrary I do understand why it would/should/could be enforced, but the last person who got “banned for life” was allowed into the very next tourney. Thats what I dont understand.
I don’t even know who you are or what you said so no i’m not referring to you. I don’t know who got banned for life either (or why you keep bringing that up) but I do know that the 2 brothers who run the event are nice people and do not like dealing with this kind of drama. There was no zero tolerance policy being enforced before and I don’t recall reading an announcement about it in the past 4 evos that i’ve attended. I guess rules like this are needed at gaming tourneys nowadays in order to ensure a nonviolent environment.
there’s a big difference. The people at evo are not being paid to deal with people’s bs (aside from general trash-talk). Professional athletes are. Just because you’re a top-player doesn’t mean, “oh he can handle it, hes been going to tournaments for years.”
lol i love the thread titles name “Thugs” idk why but i lol at that. But yeah bout the so called “thug”, usually they drink some liquid courage before they start their “thuggery”
I never planned on going to Evo but now I want to go just so I can cause trouble…
“VDO” does…at night too even though there is no god damn sun. EY YO EY YO ITS TEH GOD :lame:
Right when I saw this I thought of the LOTR fanboy from when Triumph goes to visit all the Star Wars geeks waiting in line for Episode I.
Anywho, yeah thuggery @ video game competitions is becoming way too common. One of my major reasons for quitting gaming professionally was this… it got too annoying. In Socal, a lot of this is generally started by Asians… so when I, an Asian, went to play tourneys, people would think I was that kind of guy cause I apparently have “that look”. Needless to say, I got tired of being caught in a stereotype of that nature, so I stopped attending those tourneys. It’s good to see a rule like this posted up… though I wouldn’t say my skill in fighting games is anywhere near tourney caliber… so I might just come watch in 2008 :D.
I was there this year and peepo got to understand that there is a LOT of money on the line and players like sanford and such are playing to win, so the saying “its just a game” shouldnt even be metioned.
Of course theres a difference between hype and thug shit, such as someone yelling “YO SENTINALS A BITCH!” thhats hype, everyones laughing having a great time, then someone yelling, “ILL FUK YO ASS UP!” that shiet needs to be left at home. The cableguy v Smoothviper wus a perfect example of this.
SmoothViper as everyone knows is the hypest mutha fuka we know, talks mad shiet but i anit neva seen em go beyond the boundries. All though Mike Choas is koo as fuk and reps the west he mistook vipers hype and was bout to stomp his ass out lol. Dont fuk wit mike lol. It wus all gravy though and that became one of the best matches at EVO cuz of the hype.
MVC2 anit goin nowhere, and the hype is why its my fav game, i dont wanna beat anyones ass but i love gettin hype. I think peepo gotta know where to draw the line, Peepo had some beers at EVO aka: the wizard staff holdin nigga lol,
I agree with the role as long as they know where to draw the line, EVO needs hype, its boring w/o it, Drunk, rdy to fight, yellin outa line mutha fukaz need to get banned.
