nah i wanna see more of this

 evo for unbanning him!!

What you’re advocating is censorship of a public forum and restrictions on the behaviour of the masses. While you and your staff have every right to regulate the behaviour of people within your venue, you have no right to tell anyone what they can and can not say to each other prior to said confrontation. The players can talk as much shit as they want to each other. There was no regulation when we had corner store shoving matches in 93. There was no regulation when we had groups of players getting into shouting matches and scuffles in the late 90’s. There was no regulation when East Coast players were shitting all over West Coast back in the early ECC’s. These are moments that are part of the scene and aren’t up to any one person or body of players to tell the masses what they can and can’t do.

The players should have the maturity to conduct themselves in a manner conductive to the expansion of the scene at the biggest stage of them all but to write a statement like above and tell everyone “you can’t talk shit here, in youtube, or anywhere because we say so” is truly lame and shows a rift between management and the players they NEED to fill their venue. Evolution and any other tournament is nothing without the masses to fill it. Bullying the players into conduct sent down from on high is not the way to go. When attendance drops or counter tournaments are run in protest who is truly to blame?

I think you missed the point…

Shit talk is allowed. Threats of violence are not.

I see nothing wrong with what he said. If someone threatens another person with acts of violence, they’re gone for good. He doesn’t say ‘no shit talking whatsoever.’ Of course people will talk shit to each other, but if they’re ready to beat the shit out of each other over video games, then they need to get the hell out, and be more mature about shit.

Cheater…

I didn’t miss anything. Shit talk; in and of itself is meant as a means of intimidation. I didn’t even bother to discuss “other forms of thuggery” which is about as open ended as you’re going to get. It’ll basically be left in the hands of management as to what “thuggery” is. I stand by what I said, it’s advocating censorship in an attempt to contain potential hostility.

You sort of have no fucking clue what you’re talking about, people were on some “Ill shank you at evo if I see you” type shit which is what they’re talking about. Even if they weren’t just talking about relating to their event, it’s not at all unreasonable to say “if we hear of you being publicly violent over a videogame at all you arent welcome at our tournament”

EDIT: Shoryuken is not a democracy, they can do whatever the fuck they want with anything they officially do, be it the forums or evo events.

QFT, what some people don’t realize is how important sponsers are to Evolution. Do you think Toyota will continue to support Evolution if someone gets shanked over a video game tournament? In Green Valley Ranch of all places? The last thing I want to see is people packing pistols to a game tournament… This is not North Las Vegas, get that bull crap out of there seriously…

And unless you are supplying the reward money, the manpower, and the equipment for the event, I believe you have no right to play the democracy card… If you don’t like it… fine go to another tourney… there are plenty out there.

Oh Canada! How I hate this place…Oh Canada…I’d like to kick you right in the face…

Now ya ballin

On the contrary: The Cannons don’t need a reason to ban someone from Evolution. People need to seriously learn how to behave themselves in a public place. It’s a friggin’ disgrace.

Everyone seemed to miss the point on the first go around so I re-quoted it. The point of contention is not within the fact that the players need to behave. We all know that physical fights, threats on peoples lives, destroying someone’s car, etc… is not acceptable behaviour. No one in their right mind would advocate that kind of behaviour in a tournament whether a small local or The World Championships.

The problem I have is attempting to stunt the means by which the players are able to express themselves within whatever rivalries they might have. Maybe the wording on Inkblot’s post wasn’t tight enough (whatever thuggery as I said before is really relative to the interpreter of the action). To invoke a lifetime ban on a player for talking shit is ridiculous. If you want to do so for the sake of the safety of the players, then by all means do so. There’s a large gap between heated words that lead nowhere or a Money Match (as is the case for 99% of people over the years) and a single person looking to physically harm someone (who BTW had his so called ban lifted despite a number of forum bannings, and a public ban from the event from the organizer).
