Yeah it’s 1v1 in Smash not FFA.
Oh yeah, I can understand. I could see one very good player losing because everyone is ganging up on him. We don’t want to have a tournament in which the player with lady luck by his side wins. We want the player with lady skill by his side to win, ha ha ha.
Also, if any of you are interested we are holding a Guitar Hero III and Rock Band Tournament this Saturday (May 3rd) at the World Congress Center in Room A311 if you wanted to check that out. Our group holds a different tournament in a different gaming genre every month. In July it’s Halo 3, Gears of War, and Call of Duty 4 on the 26th of July. In August, it’s Madden. And all of these competitions will always be held right in downtown Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center every time. :wgrin:
Do you have a website or something that shows your tournament schedule?
Well we try to keep all the tournaments independent of each other since they both attract different crowds but the Guitar Hero site has a site fully functional and working by the name of www.guitarclash.com. This fighting game division has a website in the working called impactclash.com. The first person shooter tournaments (Gears of War, Halo 3, etc.) will have it’s own site www.mountedassault.com which is also in the making. The madden site is still in pre-planning.
Once it’s all the different sites are finished we will have a main site which you can go to which will keep you updated about all the sites. Kind of like how IGN.com has different divisions of itself (IGN Playstation, IGN Xbox, IGN Wii) but when you go to ign.com it has something about all the sites under it.
We did it this way to ensure that all the different tournaments would get the attention they needed. If you try clumping together Halo on top of Street fighter, with Guitar Hero in the mix you’re going to end up favoring one over the other. Especially if it’s all on one website together. This way, each genre has it’s own individual attention and dedicated fan base.
Nice to hear it. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to see there. By the way we are going to record all of the footage there and plan on making a DVD. However, we’re also going to leak the stuff on the internet as well so you don’t have to buy the DVD but if you really like the content you can.
mag are you who i think you are?
Depends on who you think I am. :wgrin:
Sounds hype. Can’ say I can pre-register just yet, but I’ll definitely try to come =3
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause your tournament an inconvenience. I’ll try to swing by yours next month as well.
By the way, I managed to pre-order a copy of Sengoku Basara X. I don’t think we should have a tournament considering the game is coming out in Japan two days before my tournament. However, I will bring it there for free play for anyone who wants to try it out. We’ll try to set up a station with it running on it.

If you have any flyers you’d like to bring and place up about your tournament that’s perfectly fine.
P.S. I am really thinking about making this a two day event but I’m not sure if this tournament will bring enough people to make it where there is a need for day separate days. I need people to pre-register as much as possible so I can find out if I need to have two days for this venue. Honestly, I myself am thinking no more than 50-100 people since this is the first year of this tournament but I’d hate to be wrong. Please pre-register everyone to make this easier.
Doubt I’ll have flyers, though I’ll try my best to print some out =x
But do help me mention my tournament if you don’t mind.
Mag u run that spot in lithonia right?
No problem. I’ll mention you there. If you aren’t embarassed and you come you can go up to the microphone and let everyone know about your tournament. We’ll have a microphone there with in house sound so everyone will hear you. I’m having a Guitar Hero Tournament this weekend (Saturday) at the World Congress Center in room A311 if you wanted to come and announce your tournament there or pass out flyers there as well.
Oh, not that’s not me. I don’t live anywhere near Lithonia. This is my first tournament ever. Well, I take that back, this Saturday I am running my first tournament in Guitar Hero. But yeah, I’m new to this whole thing.
ok kool, so what made you pick the GWCC? i hope you didnt get fucked over by them
anyway, i got friends that love nothing more than getting destroyed in their favorite games, i’ll see if i can convince them to put their name on the roster
The reason I chose the Georgia World Congress Center was because I wanted a spot that was easy for everyone to get to using the Marta train station. I know rides can be a problem for many people. That, and it’s a very professional venue. My Guitar Hero tournament has two sponsors and I am working on sponsors for my fighting game tournament. It increases my chances for sponsorship if I am in an actual convention center. Not to mention it borders Georgia State and Georgia Tech which itself has the ability to bring many to my tournament.
I mean, you litterally get off at the train and you are at the World Congress Center. That eliminates the drive and the headaches of the Atlanta traffic. Not to mention there are other things for everyone to do in the World Congress Center and around it while they are waiting for their tournament to begin. And by merely luck the ability to attract people who just happen to be in the Center.
As for getting screwed over by them? Well, I had a talk with them and told them I was never informed about the “extra” things they tried to impose on me and I told them it was pretty jacked how they switched the room up on me at the last minute because of the tornado and how they told me the room would be ready and now they told me it wouldn’t be ready, etc. etc. So, they lowered the room’s rate down to a reasonable price for my next next three tournaments. I had a little rant about the center in Larry’s Final Round thread in the Atlantic South but I luckily sorted everything out I wrote about in that thread.
If you invite friends see if you can convience them to bring any hardware. Anyone who brings hardware gets half off the entry fee. If they bring a TV and hardware, it’s free entry. So, anyone wanting to save money on the entry fee(s) has an option.
On a side note, unless we can get an arcade cabinent for Super Street Fighter II: Turbo we aren’t going to be able to have the true Super Street Fighter tournament. Apparently the HD Remix isn’t due out until the third quarter of this year. The tournament unfortunately falls within the second quarter of this year. Meaning, there’s one of several choices:
- Replace it with Super Street Fighter II Turbo X on Dreamcast (which isn’t arcade perfect)
- Replace it with Street Fighter II: Anniversary on PS2
- Hope someone donates or brings a cabinent.
- Remove it from the venue.
Let me know which choice you all would think you’d be best with.
dc super turbo would be the best choice if no arcade cabinet is present.
^^^
Cool, Super Street Fighter II Turbo X it is. Unless we have word that someone is bringing a cabinet.
Nah, I don’t mind making announcement on a mic. I’ll do just that =P
